After using my Badger for a year I leaned a few tips. It saves time if you use a tractor that can place the long logs into the machine. It avoids having to pull the winch cable twice. Also check the blade tension adjustment pin. I bent the screw on adjustment because the factory made the pin to long. This caused the bar to jam. So grinding off a little of the pin prevents this. With the six way wedge keep a sledge hammer close by. Some logs with twisted grain will jam in the wedge if your not careful. Buy at last 3 extra chains. Or have a local chain saw shop make them for you. This machine uses a lot of gas at 3600 rpm. Cut the throttle back when not splitting or sawing. If you bought the attached conveyer pay attention to the log build up. It can jam stopping the belt. When feeding the log with he winch keep the log straight into the machine. The cable would pile up to one side of the spool if the log is not straight. I had my cable jam a few times. It’s not fun. Also some oil added to the cable helps. And last keep an eye on the saw dust and split debris build up. It collects under the machine, engine, and conveyer.

Thank you for the reply and tips. I no longer have the machine, if I buy another it will have a log table . I have multiple machines to load it, I liked to use the skid steer but often the ground was too soft to support it , so I made due with the Ventrac. Most of the things you mentioned I had happen. The blade bolt I never had that issue , I had 3 chains , I got them made as soon as I got the machine it was an oddball size (87) drive links , between a 24” and 28” bar , I would have designed it to use a standard chain. I always ran mine at 2800-3000 tops , no need to scream it . My engine wouldn’t shut off , the kill wire to the coils fell off the stud inside the fan housing .After diagnostics I found the switch and wiring were working. So when I pulled the fan housing the wire was dangling there . I used it a few months like that til I had time to fix it , would just idle it and stab the choke quickly to kill it . That machine was good to me .

John, I had the same problem with getting it to shut off. Only my problem was the factory Made the wire harness to the key switch to short. And vibration would pull the connection off the switch. You could not tell that's what happened until pushing in on the plug. It had me going crazy till it was found

How hard is it to sharpen the chain in that machine? How often do you need to sharp in the chain?

It’s a bit of a pain to remove ,you need to remove a simple guard ,and a pillow block bearing . The sprocket is supported on both sides by bearings . I keep an extra chain sharp , and swap them as needed . Unfortunately I sometimes drag logs thru mud and dirt and cut them,it’s surprising how ,one the chain lasts ,I made 10 cord last time and started with a sharp chain and twice had to swap out chain, so I didn’t think that was real bad. Maybe I’ll do a video on swapping the chains. I tried to file sharpen it once on the machine and it doesn’t work because the electric clutch that runs the chain will not freewheel it’s either on or off and stopped. You’d have to disconnect the belt so you could spin the chain as you sharpen... too much work . I bought an Oregon chain for it it’s an odd size 87 drive links so a 24” chain is a little short and a 28” is a little long ( both chains I had on my shelves) .

What is your thoughts on this after running it for a couple years. I’m thinking of getting this in the next year or so to up my business out put. We do a lot of limb and left over poles from logging operations. Do you find the diameter size of 18 is an issue or not a big deal.

I like it but I have heavy equipment so I’d much rather use a standard processor with a log table . This unit is especially good for towing to a site and processing a log pile . I always worked alone which makes me want the log table setup more , load a table full of logs then process til there gone. This processor easily handles 18” logs the saw blade is 24” and the log opening is slightly less than that. The only issue with large rounds is resplitting . I’d rather an 8 way wedge.

@@JohnDiMartino good to know. My partner and I do a lot of after logging clean up so most of the logs would fit very well. We skid with his tractor and we have a commercial splitter already. What is the tonnage of it. Might be able to have an 8 way fabricated for it. I’m waiting to hear back from them to know if they can put a 16ft conveyor on it. How many cords have you done and does it use a harvester bar and chain?

If you want one of these be prepared to wait a long time. Mine took 8 months from order date to delivery. Now it's 12 months with a higher price tag. I hope future replacement parts don't take this long!
