Greetings, I had a similar throttle issue with my CT125. Bought the bike with 1100 miles on the clock. One year later I had given up , the bike was up for sale. Kept telling myself the rest of the world can’t be wrong about the CT, it’s supposed to be a great bike. Started tearing into engine looking for the cause of engine gurgle, there it was. Cam chain tensioner was jacked up causing the jerkiness that made me put the bike up for sale. Made the repair and the bike has become the most ridden one in the stable. Good luck with the CRF300LS, a few hours with the new ecu may help.

Flagstaff looks beautiful, been in chandler my whole life but never really gone to flagstaff. Been looking at the crf300 rally as my car replacement because I want more spice in my life and to be able to have an excuse to go somewhere like flagstaff to ride around lol. Anyways your videos are chill, thanks

Come up sometime! Lot's of great trails up here. I can take you around one of the NAZMAT loops. We're starting to get our first hints of winter though...so there won't be much riding season left. As soon as we get our first big snow dump, the forest service will close all of the forest roads.

@@On2Feet I'll definitely take you up on that! I watched your adventure to the middle of Arizona as well, so cool to actually live life like that . I want to go near Sedona and look for aliens one day too. So far my life has been lived from behind a computer screen and seeing people like you who actually go out and do interesting things is really inspiring. Two more months and I plan to make the trade for a bike!

Had to jump straight to comments around the 6 minute mark where you show the bike cutting out, mention that it seems to happen more with a full tank, and you found recommendations that this traces back to the charcoal canister. This was exactly my issue. The same would happen after a slow speed drop. I didn’t bother removing the canister. I just bypassed it and the stalling on full tank on trail or after tipping over is completely resolved. By bypass, I just disconnected the lines at both ends of the canister and connected them with a vacuum hose connector. I recommend you give that a try. I was set on removing everything and thought why not connect the hoses since I’d need to do that whether removing the canister or not. Easy to revert if you ever have to smog it, not that we have that concern in AZ.

@brianrogers1907 Amazon 65 piece vacuum connector assortment. You only need one to connect the two existing hoses. Optionally, Amazon 90 piece rubber vacuum caps if you want to plug the “in” and “out” nipples on the canister.

@brianrogers1907 hmm I replied earlier. Trying again… search 65 Piece Vacuum Connector Assortment, and, optionally Rubber Vacuum Caps Plug Kit. Just need 1 of the former. Pick the best fit. The latter are only needed if you want to plug the canister where the hoses previously connected.

@@terrymilligan5668 Terry, I just did this bypass as well so that the fuel hose now just vents to atmosphere (capping off the exposed ends on the canister)...and I left everything else in place (I'm not worried about the extra pound). My question to you is did you also unplug the electronic connection and pin it off, or did you leave the canister plugged in electrically? I know the 500 ECU is programmed to not trip an engine light, but I was mostly just curious.

Bought the 87 stock ECU for mine. I run 91 octane and it fixed the 5k rattle along with smoother throttle response. My guess is all bikes are different. When you turn your bars to the right, I would loosen the cable until there is a small amount of play. Also, don't run the lower octane with the 91 tune. Good luck!

Came across this on Facebook maybe it will help you. It is supposed to reset the ECU mapping. maybe that won't work now that you have the 550 on 1) turn key on, then off, then on 2) turn throttle from 0 to full throttle three times 3) turn key off wait a few seconds 4) turn engine on and test.

Watching Chris Moore of Moore Mafia Tune various bikes, He talks about the Jerkiness of on/off throttle position on fuel injected bikes. He shows on his computer where the factory has a setting that when you let off the throttle it completely shuts off the injectors causing bikes to quickly slow. when you get back on the throttle it opens the injectors back up causing it to lurch forward. he just switches this option off so that when you let off, the injectors still trickle fuel and reduces the jerkiness. he also shows how when your throttle is at 100% the computer only allows the fuel injection to go 100% for a few thousand rpms in the upper range. some bikes only get about 30% throttle in the lower rpms even though you have the throttle wide open. he cleans all that up and cleans up the AFRs so it doesnt run lean/rich. all on your ECU.

Thanks for the ECU review I was curious if they help, maybe you'd need the exhaust and 91 gas to get a real test? My friend has both and it is a lot smoother than mine. Try this to help the throttle, it helped me a bit, it resets where 'zero' is on the throttle: turn key on, then off, then on turn throttle from 0 to full throttle three times turn key off wait a few seconds turn engine on and test.

Watching your video, I noticed that the movement of the front brake line when you went between some and no throttle was reduced with the mod, even if it was hard for you to feel. It can be hard to make a comparison of things you cannot measure. Good review.

The point of the 550performance ecu tune is not to only smooth out the off idle stumble, but to get the air mixture/ignition timing optimized for engine efficiency. The mod that should go with the ecu is the new 3d printed airbox snorkle. The factory one is very restricted, idea is to increase lower rpm torque, on a 286cc motor??? With factory snorkle, the engine is choked up by 8000 rpm. I got the 1st 3d printed snorkle (all the way in Indonesia from Maverick, long story). My Rally 300 pulls hard now all the way to the red line. Do the snorkle mod.

Thank you for sharing! Been watching your channel since you bought this bike. I've taken the last 3 months trying to decide between a 300l and a Dr650 as I'm only able to afford a one bike does it all. Can I ask, do you feel the crf can run short bursts of interstate speeds of say 70mph without over reving? I ride to the mountains where I enjoy single track exploring. I like the Dr650 simplicity and deisel like power but I like the abs feature and wieght reduction of the crf. Any advice is appreciated. Look forward to future videos and ride safe.👍 Best, Steve

The CRF 300 can run at 70 mph, all day but the engine sounds much happier about 65. My CRF300 Rally has 5500 miles and can say I really wish I had got a DR. The 300 gets blown about a lot and has a hard time overtaking trucks on the freeway. If your riding is going to be more tough technical dirt trails the CRF is the one to get, if you're riding more gravel roads and BDR routs, get the DR.

Deceleration on every newer fuel injected single cylinder is like that. My Polaris 570 atv is even like that. You just have to get used to easing off the throttle or timing letting of the throttle to stop.

If you had a charcial canister on a straw, it wouldn't make it easier to drink. The engine would prefer not to have that as well. It's trying to vacuum fuel through a can of tiny rocks. Get rid of it and ride for about 15 minutes and it will smooth out.

Please let us know your thoughts on whether the ECU improves the exhaust heat after you have a few more rides in. I’m running the stock exhaust and don’t want a loud flow through system, but the heat can get bothersome above where my mx boots provide shielding. I’d remove the cat, which I assume to be the cause, but I reckon that too would increase noise. I like a quiet stock system. If that ECU reduces the heat any noticeable amount, I’d be sold.

I wish I had found this video sooner..... so I could save everyone else the pain and suffering it puts one through. It is abundantly clear, that you know NOTHING about fuel management, and pretty much everything else mechanical or electrical on your motorcycle. But you seem to want to learn, and I hope you are by now. So, why are you making a video tossing word vomit around? Let me be understood; I am not hating on you (although it may seem so), I am just curious about all these KZbin videos where people think they are engineers or specialists JUST because they purchased something. Alright, to the point. You contradict yourself, in the video. You don't want to alter your fuel economy, but are willing if the outcome is correcting an abrupt throttle. (abrupt; not aggressive as you state over and over). You make the input, it responds. I know that this bike has issue with how sensitive it is, especially at low speed. You say you can't legally ride with the mods but you are going to do it anyway. (don't be a hypocrite, just leave that part out). UGH. So, lean running bikes run hotter, this is true. You live higher alttitude does not make you get better fuel mileage it is the opposite. Your bike does not burn gas, it burns gas vapors. Less air requires more fuel to have the proper amount of vapor to run correctly. Your bike has an oxygen sensor, it is used in the fuel mapping to lean it out as much as possible without damage to the engine (lean is hotter, more power. too lean is too hot and damage will result). Fuel mapping also receives a signal from the throttle position or air flow (which ever the manufacturer decides to use). Thottle position is YOU applying input to the throttle body for more or less power. The mechanical side of it, shuts off the air flow, the eclectrical side takes care of the fuel injection. Retune can 'fix' some things to an extent. In your case it could make the inputs less sensitive, so the inputs results in less abrupt on and off power. (not aggressive, wrong verb) The bike has a radiator to maintain a set optimal running temperature. Unfortunately it exhausts that heat at your right leg on that bike. The 2025 addresses that complaint with some fins to have the hot air going off to the side a little more. Look into what they did, an see if you can get those parts to work on your year model. A retune, can help with other things, like more fuel when you free up the intake and exhaust so that you gain power from it and also not run too lean. It also changes the timing so that there is no early detonation that can cause damage. Since your bike is now for off road use only, you can put on a free flowing exhaust and gain power, and less engine braking too. Keep riding and learn your bike. You put on a throttle tamer, bet you didn't know they offer different profiles to be more specific to your needs. More twist for same movement to the throttle body is less sensitive, and visa versa for faster throttle. There is something for everyone in the aftermarket world. But what most don't understand, causes them to buy things without real cause. My advice to you. Learn as much as you can about the workings of your motorcycle then after you have learned, come back and make some awesome videos so jerks like me don't waste their time correcting you. Come on Dude!

Hello from Canada! Well seems we have the same issue......i bought my 24 300l in June and didnt like the twitchy throttle and the 5k rattle (couldn't test ride when i bought it).....so after hearing about 550 I also ordered the stock improved ECU in hopes it would make the throttle a little smoother. Also with me being in Canada and our money is basically worthless it cost me almost $500 CAD for the ECU and another almost $100 at the border for import fees. Installed ECU and same thing..... didn't really notice any substantial difference which was very disappointing since i spent almost $600 on it. It did take a little of the 5K rattle away but thats pretty much it.

@On2Feet 3 ай бұрын
Yeah...frustrating isn't it? I seemed to have been rather fortunate in that I've never been plagued with the "5k rattle", so I can't speak to that. The throttle improvement is underwhelming though and I don't really have any desire to start messing with exhausts or other mods. I like the quiet exhaust as is.
