John, I have been watching you for a few years now and I gotta say you are brilliant. I started watching when you bought your Honda snowblower because I had bought the same one lol. My father could always rebuild anything and me, well it skipped a generation. I enjoy your content and your ingenuity. I am also in NH and hope to bump into you someday. I guess you could say I'm kinda a bit of a fan of yours lol. Keep up the good work.

Yes, I'm familiar with "hydro-locking." I had an injector(s) stay open and almost completely fill the block of the L98 in my '90 Corvette with gasoline. Luckily, there was no damage upon startup failure. I drained about 4 gallons of gas/oil mixture and let it sit for a week to dry out. Then, I refilled and drained the oil 3 times before filling for the last time. I replaced the injectors and never had a problem after that. I think you're right about the K&N filter collapsing.

Damn never really thought that could ever happen but makes sense. Yeah K&N was no good. I also took apart the oil pump and fully inspected / cleaned it. There was large amounts of vegetation completely clogging the oil pump pick up screen. LOL So not only did it hydro lock first the bearings would of gone dry shortly after. Stock air filter for me from now on. Its great insurance.

@@JohnFrancoNH wonder if the oil blockage starting the cooking of the bearings first, then the water was the cherry on top???

I found that the K&N filters let a lot of dirt in the motor myself !! I’m running a uni in my 2017 1 k and find that they work great

I would be really hesitant to reuse that crank after that much heat in that journal. I would take it to a machine shop and have it polished and checked for cracks and to see if its distorted at all.
@JohnFrancoNH
@JohnFrancoNH 3 жыл бұрын
Sadly no machine shop around here will bother with that task. But lucky I have a extensive background working in a machine shop & experience in aviation / aerospace. And inspected it closely myself. I saw no signs of fractures or distortion and or runout. Surface was discolored but not damaged in any way. I got lucky because i didnt not run it long before noticing it. I polished the journals, cleaned everything and it and its running like a champ now.

on their site, ask when ordering item 1, what all it comes with, it will keep you from having multiple parts once you get them. you'll see once you are on the site. it normally comes with all the seals, bearing etc instead of ordering each item separately.

Yes i did notice. $800-900 deep to get the XP 1000 back up and running. Had to get a new piston also and hone the cylinder to be safe. Could of been much worse if i let it run longer.

OK so I have an issue too Lol. About 1/2 inch broke off my dipstick because my son did not put it back in correctly. Looking at your bottom half it doesn't look like I have anything to worry about. I tried and tried and tried to flush it out but no luck. Do you think it should be ok ? I even bought a scope to look in but couldn't see shit. I really hate the thought of tearing a motor with only 2000 miles
@JohnFrancoNH
@JohnFrancoNH 2 жыл бұрын
most likely it will stay at the bottom and cause no issues. if it does break apart into smaller piece it will end up clogging the oil pick up screen which will then starve your engine of oil and cook off your main bearings in no time.

With a cheap borescope and mirror from the drain plug hole I was able to pull one out with a flexible claw from the dipstick hole

@@JohnFrancoNH i saw that the same thing happened to "adventures this way". So did you have to reseal the airbox?
@JohnFrancoNH
@JohnFrancoNH 2 жыл бұрын
Yes i saw that on his channel, he back up and riding? But it wasnt the airbox or cover it self it was the k&n filter that was the point of failure it collapsed and let huge amounts of water and debris in. Stock paper filter keep their shape better when soaked and maintains a seal.

So you went in above the riser you added i assume? He bought a can am renegade 1000
@JohnFrancoNH

yes going over the riser is what did it. Not an airbox leak. Could of avoided it if we didnt get so brave that day.
