What do you mean, someone else wrote most of Elvis' songs. Elvis ONLY co-wrote two songs in which Red West did almost all of the work. Elvis was a very talented guy, but he was not a songwriter.

@@walliegirl2 He chose not to right songs. He could play drums, Bass and piano and chose not to do so. He just wanted to be a entertainer. He rewrote a lot of the words in dozens of songs and changed the words in many more. He did say to Mac Davis once when he handed him a partly written song that "I'm not a song writer I'm a entertainer"

Marty Robbins can. He wrote the song. Elvis took more of a bluesy approach to the song while Marty's was more country. The lyrics are what Marty faced in his life. Marty wrote over 200 songs of which all but 3 were by himself. I respect Elvis, but Marty was the greater talent as he wrote a lot of music and Elvis wrote none.

Man oh man it's so great seeing the younger generation enjoying Elvis. I grew up listening to Elvis as my mom and sister were major fans even going to his Orlando concerts. I had just turned 16 two weeks before he died and I cried like a baby. He truly is the king of rock and roll. It's been 42 years since he passed and people are still loving him and his music today. His music will still live on after other music has died. Nobody will ever take his place. ✌😎

This song alone is the reason why you should never dismiss the 1970s of Elvis Presley. He took songs that he knew he could have a lot of fun doing, that was hard to sing, that could be show stoppers and that he knew exactly where to emphasize the words to express the feel of the lyrics the best. In this case he was the true master in building up the story of the song in the right way. Many people have said that one should never say he was the King and that by not writing any songs of his own that he was not musical. When we here can finally see the true impact of arrangements.

Hi John Thank you for another great reaction. How about the spotlight on JD Sumner and the Stamps? You should react to "Sweet, Sweet Spirit". The version from the film "Elvis On Tour". It's nice and quiet with Elvis requesting the audience be quiet and listen to them because he doesn't sing in it. Thanks John!

Love and respect Elvis, but Marty rocks more than Elvis, especially from the songwriting perspective.
