I loved my 3DO. Bought it my freshman year of college when they dropped the price to $399 in the fall of '94. Road Rash looked amazing for a home console at the time. We really enjoyed the two game show games they had : Twisted and Zhadnost. FIFA Soccer was pretty amazing for its time too along with Need for Speed.

Cool Lon. I also entered college in 94. I was building and selling custom PCs at a local computer store so I was a DOS gamer at that point.

I was big into DOS games at that time too. The 3DO brought me back to consoles due to the better video quality and hardware 3D acceleration.

My FZ-10 cost me £130 new when released and best money spent after getting a Vectrex when that was released.. Vectrex was £200 - another nice console to play... I managed level 65 on Minestorm... EVERYTHING homes in on you at this point... not only stars but 4 pointed stars that shoot back - ALL asteroids home in after lvl 64 onwards so you have been warned and good luck..

Great job, I've been wanting this video forever. I thought my 3do collection was big, boy I was just blown away, so hats off to you. People don't realize how hard this system is to collect for now a days. I got my 3do system from my neighbor after he bought it from best buy when they were blowing them out the door. He had it for a few months then sold it to me for $20. I remember when I used to be able to go into game stores and actually be able to find several games, now I'm lucky if anyone even knows what the 3do is. Great video!!!!

Yeah it's rare to find them in the wild anymore.Pretty much I use Ebay and Amazon were I live.Sometimes I might get older systems at Goodwill for a ok price. Hardly no games worth money and mostly in bad shape.

Thank you for showing your 3DO collection, Can I point out to you that your FZ1 at the back of the console is a switch that you can play games in 240p or 480i this is the true power of this console. Please keep up the good work. :)

'Member putting it on layaway in the Chicago Ridge Mall back on release, took me all summer to pay off that $700. I had a little over half of the collection boxed but sold mostly everything I had a few years ago. For some reason, this one still hurts the most. I can't explain it but I love the 3DO. Kept my VCS and PS1 collection, everything else went. I moved a ton for work and at one point, 7 times in 7 years. 50 odd boxes of video games just couldn't keep up. Ah well, awesome vid, really hits that spot.

thanks for sharing. great 3DO collection you got there. i was the first kid on the block in my area when the 3DO came out. I remember investing so much of my life back then into road rash, fifa, panzer general, and wing commander 3. the system was definetly ahead of its time back then. i remember how they used to send you 3do magazines and demo disks for free as part of being an owner too. the Panasonic version is the one I had and even today it looks great. One game I noticed that you may want to add to your collection is captain quazar.

Love this video. Despite the flaws, the 3DO wasn't that bad. It was just that darn price tag and the fact that they took brutal shots at the snes and genesis that made it fail in my opinion. I actually lime the console myself. But I agree that the snes and genesis are better. But as far as failed consoles go, this is one of the best. Its actually alot of fun. And its libary of games is underrated. Sure alot of them are ports. But 70% of those ports were actually exclusives until the PS1 released. The other 30% were pc ports. My favorite game on the console is Dr.Hauzar which was onky in Japan. But, I got a english translated one and its alot of fun. Great video as always John Hancock

I've been waiting for this one! Very interesting video, I remember being blown away the first time I played a 3DO kiosk in Electronics Boutique at the mall, it was ahead of its time, and so expensive. None of my friends from school had one (expensive) so we were able to play 3DO and Jaguar and such at a local business where you could pay to game by the hour, like you mentioned - it was awesome, I even had my 11th birthday party at the place! The beginning of the disc gaming era was a really exciting time, the graphics and sound were so new and impressive! *edit Love the Dragon's Lair hat

Distinctly remember the launch of this console. YTV (a kids channel in Ontario) had a huge after school promotion for the 3DO with channel's host showing off the hardware and games, and even a contest hotline for winning a 3DO. I called that hotline repeatedly but never did win, and never heard about the 3DO again!

Love the 3DO. I've had my FZ-10 for over 20 years & it still works great. Traded in all of my Genesis & SNES stuff at a Babbages back in for a Goldstar back in the mid 90's. If I remember, I still had to pay $200-$300 in too of the trades. Ha. You are 100% right about digging. I've been to retro game stores where I was told they didn't have anything 3DO (IF they even knew what 3DO was) but ended up finding some games after digging through their discount/clearance bins.

Nice collection John. I'm a big fan of the 3do myself. It was a tough time in gaming because 3d games were new on consoles and did not look pretty. I honestly wished that 3do made way more 2d side scrolling games. The few they did were well done. No vertical or horizontal shooters? That was disappointing but I still love collecting for it. I love the way that Logitech 3do controller looks. I found one and a Goldstar system at a Goodwill a few years back. I hope to do my 3do collection soon.

I couldn't afford a 3DO back in the day, but I rented one once with a friend of mine along with the game Immercenary. It was a cool system, probably the wrong game for us to have rented to really get the best experience but we wanted something we couldn't find elsewhere. All I remember is a few of the characters and some weasley guy nasally informing that "Raven is the usurper..." It was definitely a game that was the product of its time.

I almost worked a deal a few years back, to finally add a 3DO to my collection, my honesty in this case was my downfall( well lack of getting it). I was contacted by a friend, who wanted to sell me their 3DO when they saw my retro collection, said they were not looking to get too much. So I explained how much a store wold give, and how much I could afford to pay (less) and I hit my max offer which was then denied. They had not researched the worth, it even had SF2 and the controllers, I wish I got it but I could not pay what they wanted e-bay buy now...etc

Warren S. it was more over priced because of their business model. I remember as a kid I was saving up for it, by the time I had the money, the playstation came out and it was cheaper with better games that looked more impressive. All the games the 3DO had quickly got improved versions on PlayStation or better sequels. In 1993 it was amazing though. My friend did have one, and we played a lot of Street Fighter, Samurai Showdown and Road Rash. I remember giving FIFA a couple of games. My Mega Drive did feel kind of lame afterwards.
