Oh man, so many games I recognized on this list. This must have been the peak of my Sega playing days. Mutant League Football was and is one of my favorites, but seeing Virtual Pinball brought back memories of building terrible pinball tables that I haven't thought about in well over 25 years. Thanks, John.

Western developers in general came into their own. By 1995 most Sega Of America games were legitimate AAA caliber titles. People like to drag Western developers because lots of the early 16-bit output was very rough around the edges. The West ended up salvaging the last couple years for the the Genesis. When Sega of Japan at the end of 94' gave the middle finger to Genesis owners and completely moved on.

My nostalgia EA game was definitely Lotus Turbo Challenge. That was my Outrun. I was too young to really read magazines so I didn't know what Outrun was. But my family had a mega drive and Lotus Turbo Challenge which plays pretty much exactly like Outrun. I only found out recently that it's actually the second lotus turbo challenge game, but since it was the first one on a home console rather than a home computer (like the Amiga), they dropped the "2" at the end and just called it Lotus Turbo Challenge. It also had a banging soundtrack that I go back and listen to in KZbin all the time Also James Pond II of course. Literally everyone either owned James Pond 2 or borrowed if from someone. Literally everyone in the UK played that game. And it's funny now because the game has an overflowing amount of ads in it for a British chocolate bar called Penguin which is kinda like an oreo with chocolate filling in the middle (what we call a Bourbon biscuit) and then cover the whole thing in chocolate, and you get a penguin bar. Also because the name is a rip off of robocop (the subtitle is "Robocod") they have an amazing rendition of the Robocop theme. Dunno how they got away with that, legally Also Road Rash as well. All these games had fantastic soundtracks. EA published games really knew how to make good music. I go and listen to the songs from these games on KZbin a hell of a lot. They took advantage of the mega drives sound chip so effectively. They made rock songs with it, which it's still the best at. While the SNES was much better at orchestral music

the guy that designed that game is Brian F Colin. I'm a big fan of his games, particularly the arcade games. discs of tron, spy hunter, rampage, sarge, zwackery, arch rivals, xenophobe, pigskin 621 AD ... were all games that featured his artwork and animations. Haunting: Starring Polterguy is a total S for me, just because I had it growing up though. Looking back now, the things I'd change are dialing down the difficulty of the final boss, making it a little easier to restore your health in the dungeon stages, and tighten up the controls.

F-117 was a game that I didn't play at the time. I loved sims so I wanted to play it, I saw it in magazines, but I didn't seem to see it in shops when I had the money to buy it. I got it years later and boy was I disappointed. I expected it to be like LHX but with an F-117, where you'd fly entire missions from take-off to landing, and the missions would be somewhat randomly generated. A game more like the old Microprose F-117 sim on the PC I guess. I can perhaps see the thinking behind restricting the missions to only the "exciting" bits, but it feels like another instance of sim gameplay being simplified for consoles where it probably didn't need to be (see Flying Nightmares on 3DO having the PC version's dynamic campaign and mission planner removed for a great example of this).

@John Hancock Is there any way you can go over the boxes for all of these games? The inside of EA boxes differs from game to game. For instance, Starflight (and a few others) has the Electronic Arts logo above where the game goes inside the clamshell case, but case plastic seems to be unbranded for most other EA games. There also are different design styles for how the cartridge locks into the case. Some early games were in cardboard boxes and the early clamshells had no tab. There are even more variables than I mentioned, so if you or anybody can bring any categorization to help clear up different box styles, it would be appreciated (and impressive). Thank you!

To classify all the variations, there needs to be a collaborative effort in the community. Nearly impossible to do in a video.

Blades of Vengeance sure is awesome, great in all departments. F-117 Nightstorm, another game that would have benefitted from an SVP or just any helper chip inside really. I'm a fan of artist Brian Collin so General Chaos appeals to me like all the other games he worked on. Haunting isn't as deep as I'd like but there is a strong visual design there. Just picked up a Jungle Strike cart for cheap, solid video game. Mutant League Football is pretty sweet, never thought that would come back heh. Not a sports fan but interesting to hear some objective opinions on them. ;) Super Baseball 2020 appeals to me, I like sports wacky. ^_^ Technoclash looks more interesting now since you presented it. To me solid video pinball is good physics and control, the graphics aren't bad in VP since the pixel art is nice... but the layout design is quite generic compared to dedicated tables.
