Thanks for reviewing this! I got the Marantz Cinema 70s when it arrived in New York a year ago. I would have gotten the Stereo 70s had I known it was coming, as I only run a 2-channel setup in my media room. But I am most happy. Marantz has gotten their lineup in order and now the products look as premium as they sound. My only complaint is that HEOS does not support Deezer lossless, which is maddening. So I use a Chromecast as a work-around. HEOS needs more work. At least the app is stable, if slow. It's not BluOS! Deezer through BluOS on a Bluesound Powernode is a much better experience. For anyone who loves music and movies / TV / console gaming, the Marantz Stereo 70s is the first receiver I'd tell them to consider.

I also got the Cinema 70S. I have other integrated amps (Rotel and NAD) in other rooms, and vintage Marantz and Sansui units as well. The Rotel does the 2-channel plus sub music and TV on my main floor, but the Cinema 70s replaces an older AVR in my basement cave. It will power my system just fine, and sound great for music if needed too. They’re both great units, look better than Marantz’s less recent gear, and come highly recommended by reviewers. Plus, I was able to grab mine during Marantz trade-in days and saved a bundle!

Now with tidal connect is easier to wait for Roon. I bought a Stereo 70S paired with Sonus Faber Lumina 2 Amator red speakers and couldn’t be happier. Sometime I use it with a chord DAC and although marginally different in tonality, the internal DAC of the 70S sounds as good. With a good set of speakers, this integrated amplifier goes beyond the point of “decreasing marginal return”. Well done!

Good Video John! I Bought this Marantz 70S and i'm very happy. I have a small 5.1 Setup and I use it as a preamp only. AV Receivers or even AV Processors with separate Pre-Outs come normally in an other price league. In combination with active studio speakers from Adam Audio, this delivers a fantastic surround experience. A little lag over HDMI with a 4K Apple TV is noticeable, not with netfilx via the tv. Even playing stereo files in surround mode, is really fun and way above my espectations.

The fact the WiiM Amp is actually used as comparison (or context if you prefer) in this video says a lot about the value equation reframing that just occurred in the industry. You can get 3 WiiM Amps for one Stereo70 - all with superior software - and still purchase some 100 Eur + something before getting even with the Marantz from a budget POV, and certainly not inferior sound wise. As always, a very well balanced account. I have the Marantz PM7000 and really enjoy its features though as i can't be bothered playing money to subscribe to Spotify higher res, I put up with their standard version and just let it run in the background. Lazy, yes, but it does throw lots of unexpected artist to me as it has quickly realised I like America of the 1920s-1960s. Other than that I listen to FM Concert a lot here in little New Zealand, still have an older Rega Planar II turntable and a Marantz 6007 CD player, both getting regular use. And there is an older Marantz amp hooked up to a specialist 78rpm Rek-O-Kut turntable that plays my jazz/dance band discs and other genres from the 1920s. Both turntables run via Project Tube Box preamps. But 78rpm is not really a suitable topic for a modern audio channel! From the 78rpms You will guess that I'm a senior citizen (81 yo). Thanks for your reviews John, you are a talented presenter and I hope you will continue doing your reviews for many years to come.

@@mrjwarren101RHEOS is an extension you can use within Roon. It allows Roon to stream to the HEOS environment within Marantz or Denon as if it’s a squeezebox. Soon (and the creator knows this and is sad his extension would be obsolete lol) Marantz will be Roon Ready. One of the benefits of using this extension is that you can use the Roon environment as in the DSP and it will stream 192/24 which far surpasses the limitations of airplay. Hope this helps. Tons of documentation on the Roon community pages on RHEOS.

I've been waiting for this video to appear. I'm quite taken by the look of this amp and spend as much time listening to music as watching TV through a stereo. I had the Denon DRA-800H for a couple of years but got irritated with HEOS and found the sound a bit thick and congested on the Q Acoustics 3020i I use. I swapped out for a NAD 3045 with all important HDMI connection and find the sound much more tonally to my liking. A stroke of luck really as I bought blind from a second hand site. People rave about the Marantz sound quality in general so I'm tempted to find somewhere to give it a listen. The zone 2 pre out is a feature I'd really like to have for feeding music/TV into a room adjoining the lounge without additional wireless boxes involved. Worth mentioning in a follow up maybe ? Cheers, like your work a lot. Great presentation style.

Not currently many 2 channel integrated amplifiers that do it all and include hdmi arc. I personally ended up going with the Technics SU-GX70. It has hdmi arc, Spotify, AirPlay 2, MQA, Phono, and many other great features. It does lack in overall wattage output and has no dedicated sub(s) output with crossover control like the Marantz. Only a pre-out. That being said, it is still very feature rich, has superb build quality, and its own proprietary room correction. It might be worth adding to your list. Especially, if you have interest in the pricer Lyngdorf (which I haven't personally heard). I'd love to see Darko review the Technics. As I think it is very much a “future fi” product at its core. But, I still would personally love to hear the Marantz. The Marantz seem to pack a lot at its price point and is also very feature rich. It's also $1000 cheaper than the Technics and the Lyngdorf.

The problem for me is the limitation of Marantz's DAC at 24/192. As for myself, I rip my CD on computer with a very good application called Switch in 32/384 or 768 Khz. So, if I buy this amplifier, I will have a good sound with my CD player but I can't read my music if I connect the Marantz 70 to my SHanling M6 Ultra. 😕 Finally I think of buying a PM 14 S1 in second hand and a DAC, it will be easier to read my files in 32/384 and it may will be cheaper as well.

A subwoofer is a no brainer for me. After adding one to my 100% audio system at home last year, I literally told myself « why didn’t I bought a sub before!? But yea, if someone have paired the R200 with the Stereo 70 (or Marantz product), I will also be interested to hear their thought about that pairing. But as the Stereo 70 / R200 combo (with a sub :) ) I have no fear that this will be enough power to fill that 20m2 room.

I'm sure both are very nice, 40n is very nice too, but it's strange to have separates much pricer than the 40n (even if we have a cd player in addition) because 50+cd50 is one lower range behind the 40n.. The stereo 70 is nice but it's more on the av side than hifi ...it's the new nr1200. I'm waiting the replacement of the 7000n.... To see how things turn... Habe jetzt einige Video gesehen, super Kanal!

Marantz question not amp though . I have a maranzt CD52 mk2 special edition. . Is it worth upgrading to a more modern cd player or is there a ceiling limit on sound quality and did they hit that with this cd player in the 90’s
@ilianstoimenov661911 ай бұрын
The only upgrade worth doing is to a higher class CD, not the same just a modern one... The CD53 is a great piece.
@Yiannis211211 ай бұрын
@TheGforceuk No. You're fine. You need to get a $700-1000 one, of todays models, to see any difference.

I’m seriously confused. Why should I consider a 2-channel av receiver over a more common multichannel av receiver?
@predragKrasulja11 ай бұрын
Multichannel av receivers are messing up stereo sound - something with DSPs. I can't explain it. Idea is - if you listen just music ( just stereo sound), but you want HDMI inputs (for e.g. Apple TV and play Apple Music or to collect different other game consoles, IPTV boxes ...), this Marantz seems to be good choice.

Love mine. Only issue is the remote app. It tends to report incorrect information and occasionally doesn’t function properly.

My first concern is whether the Marantz can play through both the A & B set of speaker posts at the same time? If so, it can be used to Bi-Amp a set of speakers, which for many of us would be a distinct advantage. Also, John you didn't cover soundstage and imaging... Finally, I see that this Marantz retains its bare wire only speaker binding posts.

Really silly thing, but I like the idea of the renaming of the sources on the marantz. I don’t think I will be moving away from my Audiolab as, my ears are knackered and I’m not sure how much more I would need to spend to get enough of a better sound to warrant it. I do however intend to buy the wiim amp after having a couple of wiim pro’s since they were released. They anre around the house for streaming with smaller amp/speakers set ups, but having the amp combined is such a very simple solution and after getting such great reviews this sounds a real simple decision.
