Mind Games Lennon New Deluxe Set!

This has always been my favorite John Lennon album. In fact, it was the first solo Beatle album I ever bought - way back in 1973. Love John’s humor, thumb in the eye of the establishment (his irreverence), his musicality, lyrics, all of that. For so many years it never seemed to get the attention it deserved. Perhaps as a hangover from Sometime in New York City. Was pleased to hear such warm words of appreciation from you, John Heaton. I’ve ordered the two vinyl set and I think I will be happy with that. And yes, thank you to Sean and Yoko for making this release possible.

For finding the bonus audio: rewind past track 1 on the CDs. It might not work with every CD player, but the bonus audio is supposedly hidden there.

I think Sean did a fantastic job with this box set with the hidden things and the amount of mixes that are included in the set. Just wanted to know how JL Estate is aware of your channel any stories your willing to share. As a Beatles-Lennon fan being recognized officially must feel really special. The art design nerd in me always appreciate great packaging. The attention to detail looks really superb. I have a Spanish LP 10th anniversary of JL Passing is enough for me. The Neutopia theme is a great idea knowing what John was dealing with. Appreciate your insights-Hello from Canada.

Good review John If you look closely at the edge of the discs. Your see HIDDEN TRACKS. To find these play the song(s). Pause. And skip back. The hidden ones play. Haven't received mine....yet

It looks like this will be interesting to listen to. I find this and sometime in New York City his weakest albums. Mind Games is incredible but I never found the rest up to much. I’m a big fan so I’ll listen on my streaming service. Not sure I’ll fork out for the box.

Lucky you John nice surprise receiving the box set enjoy sir , however not for me happy enough with my 1st pressing mind games has its moments some excellent Mr L numbers some not so but overall I think it suffered after sometime in New York , enjoy the box set John.

I am very excited to get the box set seeing this ! Mind Games is a beautiful album, perhaps it suffered originally from a muddy production ? And negative reaction to sometime in NY city adventure etc. People who knock it I feel dismissed it too readily and perhaps didn’t really listen ? Of the new mixes I have heard they really showcase the songs beautifully ? I have always loved this album if i am honest !

A great release/presentation however not an album I find myself going back to. In fact the only Lennon album I truly enjoy is Plastic Ono Band to which I own the Super Deluxe CD boxset. I can see myself waiting a few years to “maybe” purchase this set at a sale price on Amazon. If George Harrison camp would release a beautiful presentation as this boxset for Living in a Material World, Dark Horse, Extra Texture, George Harrison, Gone Troppo, 33 1/3 and even Somewhere in England I think I would be more interested as I find myself enjoying/revisting the Harrison Discography more than Lennon! Fantastic review my friend aka Han Solo!!!

I'm glad Sean and Yoko set you this box set early for review. And it seems like a very deluxe package. I've never completely warmed up to MInd Games, so I'm looking forward to hearing this remix and see if my opinion changes. When will it be officially released? Each to their own opinion but I’m not sure i would agree this is johns finest album. There are some good tracks on there but id place plastic Ono band, imagine, walls and bridges and even double fantasy above mind games. Even though I still like it!

John's weakest solo album, in my opinion. Aside from the title track it is difficult to find anything at all memorable. However, it will still be interesting to hear the other mixes. A few songs do have potential, and i think hearing them in another comtext may be beneficial.

I think the final track, "Meat City", is memorable. The message in the backward mask of the single version versus the album version is certainly fun. But more importantly, it is perhaps John's final original rock track as he sadly toned down the rock sound quite a bit after that.

@@427bullis i agree....WITH YOU. lennon had 5 years to be hounded by us government, leave where i lived, separate from musicians he'd worked with all his life and get murdered months after trying to revive his career. if "mind games" was forgettable, it could be forgiven but it's not. it's being discussed 51 and a half years later. nice video, "sir heaton".

Lennon is a towering musical figure - that's why it is mentioned. These deluxe editions are also money making schemes. I doubt anyone with a casual interest would know any of the songs, aside from the title track. It is interesting, nonetheless.
