Hi, based on your and other reviews I ordered a J2K. I was using a Vatic Pro V7 carbon face. I received the J2K and did some drilling than took it to the court to play doubles. I lost every game and have gone back to my Vatic Pro winning games again. I don't want to give up on the J2K. Just wondering how long it took you to adjust to this paddle and do you think there is a break in period? I know the Kevlar surface feels more aggressive than the V7 carbon and may take time to get use to. Weight of my old and new paddle are the same. Grip is similar. Any feedback is appreciated. Percentile representation i feel can give the wrong idea about the paddle. Take spin for instance. It’s 2100 spin is only 200 rpm away from the top which is only 10% from the best spinning paddle but there are so many paddles in the 21-2200 rpm range that this one is at 66th percentile of all paddles. Raw value percentage from the best tested is a better visual representation i believe.

I know how much effort you put into this and how you use reliable equipment to get your data so I hesitate to question your methods. But when you swing a pickleball paddle on the court, the pivot point is much further up your arm, possibly all the way to your shoulder or even your spine and the whole arm AND paddle are being swung. When you use your twist weight and swing weight machine you are only measuring a fraction of the paddle's weight beyond the pivot point since the pivot point on the oscillating machine is somewhere near the handle or longitudinal axis of the paddle. This is the only reason you can use weight at the bottom of the handle to balance the weight at 4 and 8 o'clock on the edge guard (opposite sides of the pivot point). Putting additional weight anywhere on the paddle will make it harder to swing when the pivot point is further up your arm.

John why don’t you add weight to the paddle throat? I’ve seen pros mention this adds stability. I was thinking of only putting tungsten there just to slightly lower my balance point without any other mods.
@padflash5 ай бұрын
He's using the Slyce caps to move balance. Tbh, any lead on the edge guard is not going to really move the needle for balance. It may move it lower on the paddle face, but it will still be more head heavy than before and add swing weight points. Pros do it primarily for stability w/o making the paddle too head heavy. I honestly never liked setups such as the Ben Johns one, which is 10g from the throat up the sides. It works for him and I'm sure a lot of non-pros do it b/c the GOAT does. But it adds a TON of weight to the paddle while being the smallest impact to off-centered shots. Us mortals are better off w/ much less lead specifically at 3&9.

Not sure about the j2K, I bought the J7K pro. The miss hits on the edges were too often. The sweet spot is very narrow on the paddle. I also don't think it had any where near the pop the banned Joola Gen 3's had and paddles like the Spartus Apollo have much better spin, Selling it after two weeks.
@WhitePillMan5 ай бұрын
J7K is longer and narrower than the J2K so the sweet spot will be narrower along with it. The Pro models are a tighter weave so they will play stiffer as well. I haven't played with the J7K Pro, but if I had to guess it would play much differently than the J2K. I have a J2K and I love it. Sweet spot feels huge.
