Thank you, John. Always consider your videos an unexpected gift - and today's is a birthday gift! We also have finally got some nice weather here in Shelburne, Ontario - though we will have a chance of frost next week with lows of 3'C. Still, it was good to get out and tidy up the gardens. Now if only I had soil like yours!

I didn't know not to pack plants down in heavy soil.. I just hear, firm your plants down to get rid of air pockets, then water them in to get rid of any pockets in the soil, and as well as to water them.

Nice to see David and John post again.... one of life great sayings is never take anything for granted .... so i'll just enjoy the rewarding uploads as and when infrequently as they are posted. Personally lost my big blue last year but thankfully had taken some root cuttings previously ...it's an absolute stunning plant and it's rewarding to see bumblebee's just clamped on it.... still have my big blue mini plants in long thin containers which i've placed on the soil....not sure if that's stupid but the thinking is not to water log them again and maybe it will be easier to take root cuttings in the future. Oh well...i may forever have the Learner plate up in terms of gardening ability ...but the garden is looking pretty good according to my humble eyes. Be well both (and Teddy)

Mr Lord, What is the Fargesia/bamboo (?) variety growing behind the Ligularia that starts the video? I'm using a Fargesia for a screen in the NY USA area (zone 7/6) and if it does anything like what you have going on there I'll be happy with it. Clumping Bamboo, is that what you have there? Many thanks!

What fun. Just came in from 6 hours in my garden, and get to watch another enthusiastic gardener😁 I too have clay soil, but the rocks make digging a chore. Do you ever amend the soil with compost or manure, or is everything in your garden planted in native soil with no fertilizing?

I sometimes mix in organic matter of some sort, ordinary compost or bark to open up the soil and I never compact the soil after planting. Plants themselves are great soil modifiers
