From Melbourne, oh that rose was in my mother’s garden and it has been moved 4 times in 50 years, watered it this morning as 37c today. It is the best rose in my garden and reminds me of her. You will love it. Loves dry hot weather and occasional feed. I never cut back really. Grow CAL dahlia next to her with mauve penstemons

I have always figured that weeds were anything that thrived too much. As soon as even a plant I like starts to spread where I don’t want it’s time to start pulling the weedy bits.

The category of "weed" is only a preference - rhododendron is a weed to me, dandelion is not. Strangely weeds tend in gardening culture to be native and beneficial to our ecosystem - likely from Victorian gardening culture where the exotic and rare were prized, local and common was to eradicated. Ironically now there are more non native than native plants in Ireland which is tragic. The knapweed, foxglove, mullein, agrimony, valerian, forget me nots and all the rest are not attractive all being replaced with container loads of Dutch products.

Is John ill? He looks very ill. It's a private thing, so you may not wish to reply or mention anything. John looks like he's lost weight, may be jaundiced. Please go to your doctor if you haven't already.
