You guys in the comments all saying that finding a woman like Mrs. Lovell is almost impossible missed a key part of the story. She (and John) were significantly different and worse people when they first got married. Finding perfect, especially when you are young, is not going to happen. Almost all relationships take years of work to get to a stage similar to where the Lovell's are.
@mikelundgren198513 ай бұрын
I think about this all the time. I would not want my daughter to date the person I was when I got married. But I a much different than that person. I am not who I was.

@@mikelundgren19851 Huh. Maybe this a good message to conservative parents (I'm talking only about verrrrrry conservative parents, 99% of parents are not cautious ENOUGH with their kids) to give a little grace to the young men pursuing their daughters. Fathers with their daughters (and to a lesser extent, their sons) are sooooo hard on young men in the very conservative Christian circles. And I'm saying this as a verrrrry conservative person, so don't get me wrong, but I've known some very godly young men who have had fathers basically reject them completely because of secondary things, even though they had a good heart in all the most important things. It is sad because while dads have a duty to protect their daughters, they also have a duty to help them find a husband! So it's good to remind fathers that the young man is going to take time to grow. That's all. All respect to protective, conservative dads, of course.

Nonsense. I tried to help my wife for 24 years, always enticing her to do what was right and loving her and adoring her the whole time. Helped her achieve so much. Supported her and sacrificed so she could get a nursing degree. I supported her and sacrificed so she could attempt nurse anesthesia, which she failed. I welcomed all animals she brought home. I helped her while she struggled with mental and physical health issues. And she still filed for divorce.
@jaydunbar75383 ай бұрын
19 years in and absolutely, lots of issues early on. the difference between making it to the “perfect marriage” level and divorce is if you give up or try to figure out what can be done better and work through everything no matter what.

We made the decision for me to stay home with our son (who has special needs). People always asked me “what I did” I would say “I’m a mom” and they responded, “I mean what’s your real job” I was made to feel less than, some family implied I was a freeloader (staying home while my husband worked). Others said I was “lucky” to stay home not knowing the many sacrifices we made and things we did without so I could stay home. I’m now 55, my son, 34 and I’m thankful my husband was willing to sacrifice so I could be a full time wife and mother. I wouldn’t change a thing.

My sister in law is a stay at home mom. Which I think is great, but I know it kills her. She is a femisinist(and has the feminist books for her daughter) and her husband brings in all the money. I find it so ironic that the biggest feminist I know stays at home instead of working. My wife works full time but hates feminism.
@lizpetruzzi77003 ай бұрын
@@goldenknightsfanatic really interesting. I give your sister credit “she hates it” but loves her children enough to sacrifice her feminist dreams. I also hate feminism (the ideals not the women) because it messes everything up. Feminism says we should be like men, better than men. It teaches women to dislike and disrespect men. I love being a traditional women and I appreciate men and their role. It hurts my heart the way feminism has gutted men, lied to women and ruined families.

Modern feminism is toxic. Thank you, John, for your book and for all you do to lift up masculinity. On the female shooting thing...my wife started shooting with me a few years back. We have been competing every month in a local Defensive Pistol match...and she has been winning the female division! Last month she finished mid-pack, beating out about a dozen male shooters! It took some time - and I had to learn how to teach her in a way she accepted and grew out of - but she is a BOSS now. And as proud of herself as I am of her. 😍👍

Interesting thing about a circle... as soon as one is created there immediately manifests ...an inner circle, an outer circle, and a boundary that connects/interfaces the two. And while all are manifest of seemingly a single thing, they all have their very distinctive individuated natures and functions. Therefore what leads must be following, and therefore what follows must be leading. Different distinctive natures that would not exist without one another, nor without being an intrinsic part of one another. Both totally unique and yet one at the same time. Thank you John and Bekah. Nice job.

@horustwohawks20 күн бұрын
@@michaellautermilch9185 I think you misunderstand the meaning and reference in my post. In places they discuss the nature of "leading and following" in the intimate partnership of marriage. How the roles, while distinct to the individuals, create frameworks of leading and following for each; and while there are some definitions of "lead" and "follow" that have obvious distinctions (to a man, to a woman, and their roles in this context), there are also the subtleties of how each individual stewards both those roles in various ways. Hence my comment, while there is (what in my culture loosely may be related as) "the inner circle" (what typically the woman 'holds'), and "the outer circle" (what typically the man 'holds') ...ultimately their relationships in "said stewardships" are inseparable. Metaphorically (in a manner) "the circle" geometric defines this inseparable relation, (once you draw it there all at once is an inside, an outside, and a meeting boundary) as does "the circle" of partnership (a distinctive relationship the harnesses distinctive strengths together). . I intend no commentary on anyone's spiritual and/or religious beliefs.
