Just ordered an autograph copy of your book. New to the gun culture. Just applied for my carry permit in PA. Still don't own a firearm, but I'm looking at a .22LR so I can learn, and teach my 3 kids. I appreciate your content.
@murdurmuffin78727 ай бұрын
Hey bud, firstly, I don't want to sound like a snob or discouraging. By all means, WELCOME to the community. Some advice, if I may. If this is your first entry to guns, a .22LR is not a bad choice to start learning with. My family keeps a .22LR to plink around at cans and floating leaves with. It's a great gun for kids, and can probably be used to hunt rabbits with. However, that's as far as it can go. If you are concerned about protection at all, I would highly recommend you go with a larger caliber. The .22 makes a very small hole and is too weak to consider for self defense, unless you are ok with legally defending in court why you had to reload and kept on shooting... the same target. Among pistol caliber, I would recommend 9mm. It's not as jarring as the time honored .45 ACP, and there's generally a lot more models to choose from. You can get a Ruger PC carbine and a handgun in 9mm, both shoot the same round and should be just enough to defend your home and family against criminal threats. If your worries are about threats more well armed or wish to be able to hunt, I'd recommend something in .308 at minimum. A lot of people will espouse the good ol' AR-15 (.223/5.56x45mm) but a .308 only needs 1 shot to be effective against the vast majority of threats/game. It's your life, family, and values, so learn all you can and ask lots of questions. Oh, and good luck!

Eventually felt comfortable enough to get my CPL (carry license) Then I took a class from Robert Vogel, Carry Trainer, Andrew Branca and Massad Ayoob. I HIGHLY recommend taking Massad’s class (MAG20) before he retires. As someone else mentioned starting out with a .22 great. You’ll eventually grow to a bigger caliber. Enjoy the journey. Safety is paramount (I bought a safe before I brought my first gun home). Always keep learning.

Phil. 1:21 is my life verse. As a young boy and even now as a young man, I have always had this feeling that I couldn't shake ... a feeling that I was meant to die for someone or something (i.e., in a sacrificial manner - not of natural causes). It was viewed as an easy way out of this sometimes hard life (still see it that way sometimes), but now I am coming to grips with the fact that I am going to have to be a man worthy of that calling when the time comes, or I will miss it. I need to be the man that God designed me to be, and it's going to take discipline and work. The thought of sying this way always brought me a sense of peace and purpose. Perhaps I'll be afraid in the moment, but I know God is ever present in those times and grants dying grace to those who give their li es for Him.

John Lovell, Philippians 1:21-26 is my favorite passage from the Bible. I was excited to see someone else highlight it's significance. Paul, to my understanding, had a much clearer picture of what awaiting him after death then may of us do today, yet he chose to continue to stay on earth and suffer in the pursuit of helping others. I admire the sacrifice he made by choosing to stay. I hope I would chose the same.

I see some people writing these comments saying "it's not a death wish" you're half wrong. It ISN'T that we wish for our death, but that in being willing to lay down our lives for freedom justice and liberty, one MUST have an embracing realization, that if you want freedom, it WILL come at the expense of lives, yours and your enemies. That level of resolve, demands a slight wish for death, either of your enemies so you can be free from them, or your own so you can be free from them.

They also forget the other side of the Greek defense and the other man of the hour, Themistocles, who led the Greek navy to actually defeat the Persians. Excellent video. Real heroes face death with courage. Cool his son did that tooth thing on the battlefield unprompted. Socrates seems very heroic & wise. I tend to live the same way. Always questioning stuff deeply. However, sometimes when you questions things that deeply, you get answers that are very difficult to deal with. It's one thing to question, it's another thing to deal with unpleasant truths. Fear of death is natural. It's an instinct of self preservation. However, a hero knows when to override that fear using courage. The hero knows when to die in battle, and when to be cautious and wise and be safe. It's not always wise or heroic to charge into battle and risk death. However, sometimes it is correct. Discernment.
