I’ve been working on cars since ‘95. Mostly as a hobby, had a few paying customers. My tool/roadside kit: orange safety vest, 2-flares, 1/2” breaker bar, socket that fits my lugs, tire inflater that’s powerful enough, tire plug kit, tire pressure gauge, adjustable wrench- in case of alternator change, white towel for hanging on the window, towel to lay on or for bleeding, jumper cables and the rechargeable jump starter, two blankets for cold weather breakdowns, my custom first aid kit, gallon of water filled 2/3 in case of freezing for drinking or radiators, quart of oil, power steering fluid, trans fluid, and small hand soap. I don’t bring the torque wrench because I know how tight by feel. Depends on where I go I add other stuff to the mix. All this doesn’t take up a lot of space. I do biannual maintenance on my cars so it prevents a lot of breakdowns. I’ve been broken down on the Baltimore beltway with three babies in car seats- this led me to learn how to work on cars and always be prepared. AAA/tow truck drivers are often not honest and reliable.

Really interesting video John - thank you very much for posting and greetings from Australia. I'm an engineer. Be very careful driving with the lap portion of the seatbelt over your holster and weapon. If you are in a wreck, the explosive pre-tensioner in the seatbelt mechanism will fire off (dragging the belt tight to help save your life) but unfortunately if the load of the impact is carried by the weapon, holster and spare mag, you are highly susceptible to life-threatening internal injuries (internal bleeding). The seatbelt lap portion is designed to transmit the loads to your pelvis (to the iliac crest on your pelvis - front hip bones). I get that you're all about survival, and everything's a tradeoff, but in most situations where you are likely to be carrying concealed, with the belt over the top of the weapon, I'd suggest the risk of an auto wreck is higher than that of a gunfight. Carrying off-body with the weapon ready to rip between the seat and the console is an excellent way to manage that risk in my view. (Constructive feedback - I enjoy your videos and agree with much of your comment.)

Seriously, this is an EXCELLENT video! I'm currently driving an older Ranger, which I like just fine, but an F-150 is a TRULY Practical SHTF Vehicle! They are proven reliable, and parts can be found almost anywhere. When my Ranger gives up the Ghost, I may WELL move to an F-150 for the carrying capacity, and if my wife and I have to sleep in it, FAR Batter than a Ranger-And room for the DOG as well. LOVED some of your ideas for the doors. I keep a small EDC Pouch in the back of the cab...Small Flashlight, tools, 1st Aid items, and my Nitro, Sadly. You're a genuinely cool dude!

Love all the stuff, your prepared for pretty much everything just a few suggestions if you see this, 1. don't leave guns in vehicles even if its cheap that, standpoint just helps criminals get guns, cheap or not it still goes bang. 2. if you are going to leave guns in a vehicle conceal the magazines two, they will see them and more then likely think there is a gun in there because there is ammo or they might just break in for free ammo. 3. get a Locking toolbox, a good brand is weather guard, for your get home bag and other heavy items in a vehicle crash or role over heavy items go flying and could injure or kill you. and lose the blacked out headlights and tail lights it makes it harder for other drivers to see you and could cause the previously mentioned car crash. and finally you said something about a gas mask for use in structure fires i believe... yeah coming from a fire fighter trust me they wont help we use air packs because that really the only 100% method of not breathing in smoke. But for all my nit picking i loved the video its good to see each others views on what is and is not needed.

@@markscheifele8925 I'm a 30 year vet and not someone easily messed with either. I rarely miss what I aim for and consider myself fairly well trained. I learned the hard way that none of that matters. I got home from work and left my Get Home Bag with a Sig P229 in it covered up behind the driver's seat of my F-350. It's an extended cab pickup with dark tinted glass in the back. There are no "gun guy" stickers on the truck and nothing to make anyone think there would be anything of value in the vehicle. I was just going in the house for a short time and planned to be going right back out and that's why I left the bag where it was. When I stepped out of the house about 20 minutes later it was still daytime and was only about 6:30pm. My wife asked if I had left my door open because, there it was open. They had popped my door lock out and grabbed that bag quick as shit and hadn't even shut the door behind them. In hindsight, I had bought a cool phone charger and absently left the box for it on my front seat. They saw the cool looking box and broke in to get that. They missed the boat there because there was nothing in the box, but there was about $3500 worth of gear in and around that bag that they took... along with a Sig P229 Equinox. In my comment to John above I talk about how irresponsible it is to keep guns in your vehicles, but it ain't like I didn't learn that shit the hard way.

There's a lot of truth to that, though. When you're armed to the teeth, you don't live in fear, because you're prepared. Whenever I travel and need to leave my gun behind, that's when I get paranoid. The "what if" fairy pays my brain a visit, and all I can think about is what will I do if shit goes down and I don't have a weapon handy to even the odds? With all the shit going on right now with these riots, I'd say it isn't paranoia, but rather legitimate concern.
