Military here. We run a 2 point sling 90% of the time because it's way easier to sling the rifle behind the back or keep it tight to the chest when doing pretty much anything (lifting, prepping defensive positions, detaining individuals, etc...). We're usually not engaged at distances so close we have split seconds to shoulder our rifle, unless you're spec ops or something, so it's not usually an issue having to clear the sling first before returning fire.
@spudmydog17 жыл бұрын
rougecards thanks, yeah makes perfect sense
@wikidpsycokilla6 жыл бұрын
Only time i ever used a two point sling was with the m249. For the m4 i modified my three pointer to hold the rifle tight to my chest, and when unclipped it was attached by a single strap from the stock to my firing shoulder with the sling forming a loop around my chest under my support arm, letting the rifle hang straight down at my side. Clipped was for on the fob and unclipped was for out in sector. Your sling and how you use it was one of the few things each individual had free reign to do what worked best for them.

Thank you for this video. I was taught by my grandfather, master chief petty officer in 3 wars. The old style stance is how I was taught. Side stance, butt stock firm in the shoulder, almost a limp front arm tucked in to the chest just to support the rifle. He taught my mother as well in rifle school. She has several medals in sharp shooting as an adolescent. I definitely need to learn how to hold my AR 15 differently. I changed up the stance for shooting my 45-70 because of the recoil. I love the first day of Jiu-Jitsu reference. Definitely finesse and muscle memory way more than man handling your opponent.

You're smarter than I thought when I saw the thumbnail of this video . I suppose I have a prejudice against the thumb over bore ( TOB ) foregrip style . None of the best shooters I know or know of use this style . Whenever I see this my first thought is "somebody's trying to be all tacticool" . The straight arm and thumb over bore grip doesn't transition from upright to prone firing positions well ( quickly ) and also presents problems for me in CQB or working in teams (flagging team members) . To me this seems to be more gaming than practical . But I never knock other people for doing what works best for them and you definitely have you fundamentals mastered .

Sir, a question. in 2011 I was involved in an accident that damaged my L5 and L6 thoracic vertebrae resulting surgery. the legacy I'm left with is holding both arms out in front of me causes pain which can be overcome but also numbness and loses of muscle control in my hands and forearms. I have modified my stance to exactly the wrong way of doing it, left foot forward, support hand pulled back under the hand guard grasping the mag well, etc. This is the primary reason I haven't gotten more serious about a rifle training course. it would be unfair for me to expect an instructor to spend time with me trying to work around my issues while the rest of the class is getting it done. The question, are you aware of training or instructors that work with these kind of issues. I don't think of myself as "disabled" as there are people with bigger challenges than holding a rifle. I go to work every day as a heavy truck mechanic I just do things differently. any input you might have would be appreciated. I have no illusions that I'll ever be a professional door kicker, I don't even consider myself a tactical guy I would just like to become better at moving with a rifle and shooting accurately at "speed"

Bryan Saunders tbh I almost guarentee like 99% of the well respected courses would work with you in a class. You'll be training in unconventional ways in tactical courses anyway so you may even have a leg up on other guys who are 100% able bodied but have only ever shot with their primary hand in a conventional "gun range" ways. Give some of the places you're interested in a call. I bet they'll have no problem accommodating your needs and getting you speedy in no time!!!

Bryan Saunders Prolotherapy, and if money is available, steroid therapy, even stem-cell (I didn't say amniotic). The good news is medicinal technology, especially with respect to muscular-skeletal pathology and injuries is advancing at such a pace that I sincerely believe that if you consult the right physician, you'd be on track to increased comfort and mobility. Best of Luck!

If holding a handgun or rifle becomes painful in a way that leave you feeling unsafe to defend yours and yourself with a firearm then I highly recommend you acquire an M67 frag grenade and a can of bear mace. If a home invader or attacker makes themselves known, simply produce the frag grenade in your off hand and hit the bad guy with a loud "Allahu Akbar". This will stun the bad guy for at least 3 seconds, as his synapses will short circuit from the shock of such a sight and he must quickly reboot to process what is going on. In this time frame, produce the bear mace in your strong hand and light the bad guy's face up with the unholy hellfire of spicy whipped cream from the bear mace canister. This will incapacitate the bad guy immediately. The evil substance in the bear mace canisters makes Kodiak bears shit themselves just from thinking about it. Now he is at your mercy. If you want to be merciful, replace the bear mace canister with a sidearm of your choice and send him off to the next world. If you want to make an example of him, replace the canister with a taser and let the bad guy ride the lightning. The police will haul him off for many years of being Big Cock Joe's bottom bitch in Cell Block D and you'll have a clean conscience. I suggest an authentic M67 frag grenade because I don't know where you live. If you leave in a shithole like Detroit, then you'll be faced with multiple armed attackers and it's best to take them all out with you. The old standing remains, better to have and not need than to need and not have.

MajorArtillary sure sounds great. Can I get that m67 frag grenade in the sports section of my local Walmart? Or do I need to actually befriend a jihadi from Afghanistan? Thanks!

This is why I was always comfortable holding the rifle closer to the magazine well with my forward hand (22 years as an Infantryman). I have been seeing the forward hand out quite a bit and Ill give it a whirl. Good video!

Wow thank you! after looking at the way you shoot, I tried holding it the way you did and it is so much more comfortable! Not having stock all the way out and not reaching to the forward end of the barrel made holding up the ar ar much easier and practically enjoyable ^^ hope to catch you when you have a class near dallas tx!

I live in the part of Illinois where there are more firearms than people politicians from Chicago are afraid to come this far south in Illinois because of that reason, but we take gun safety very seriously and teaching our kids how to handle and use a gun properly and watching videos like this one helps to get out of old habits with aiming and sighting my carbine, but with my pistol I just use my front sight getting ready to go to a laser sight since I have a astigmatism and I practice shooting with both hands, because I'm right handed and left eye dominate.

2:43 I also consider that stance to expose an easier entrance for rounds to hit your vital organs vs if your facing your chest toward the enemy. In the case that you are wearing a plate carrier, you're are most protected by facing forward.

Basic mechanics are where most people struggle. And yes, there's a big difference in battle posture and range posture. Good stuff today

FANTASTIC VIDEO!! One of the best videos I’ve seen for learning how to shoot a rifle/carbine properly. I see plenty of videos about trigger control and sight pictures but almost nothing on the most basic concept of holding a carbine properly!! Thanks for the information!!

In regard to grip fatigue, that's why you should use a full vertical foregrip a little bit back on your rail. Full vertical foregrips allow you to aim your rifle while relaxing your wrist, and it gives you great recoil control. I know the military uses them all the time but for some reason they are really unpopular in the civilian market. Also it looks like you may be able to extend your buttstock a notch or two.
