Hi John and Mandy I worked for over 36 years at The Christie hospital in Manchester as a medical physicist. It is a cancer only hospital and so every patient there over all that time was in some way going what Mandy is going through now. It is really important that you take the doctors and care specialists advice and follow your treatment and care regimes rigorously, try and link up with the groups that the hospital will give you leaflets on. However it is also really important that you don’t let the cancer eat up the rest of your life. In so far as your health will allow outside of the treatments and diagnostics get out and do all the normal things you do, continue to live, distract yourself from your own mind which can be cruel, think about and do other things together. None of us ever know how long we have, we could not wake up the next day. The cancer was there before you knew about it, you were living just fine, don’t let the knowledge that allows you to treat it become the knowledge that hurts you more than the cancer itself. The treatments get better every year so what allowed someone to survive 10 years in 2014 which we would only know about now would not be the current treatment regime. I wish you both all the strength to go through this together, cancer is a horrible word but around half of us will get it in our lifetime and it is all treatable to some extent. There are many awful illnesses for which there is no treatment and they are terminal in horrible ways. So please don’t think why me as you are in no way singled out by this prolific illness. It gets more prevalent as we cease dying early from other conditions like malaria, typhoid and cholera for example.

Hey you lovely people ..... I was diagnosed 12 years ago with advanced prostate cancer and here I am still alive and kicking. Please don't be angry, it did nothing for me but the love and warmth of my wife and friends made all the difference. It would seem that having a "come what may" attitude has a more positive outcome rather than fretting at every turn. Be strong and love each other well !

Mandy, I am not sure when this was filmed and if you still have a few days to go before you get home but have you thought of phoning the MacMillan nurse at the hospital to discuss your worries and questions. They are amazing and will be a huge help and support, especially in your situation. Just ask the switchboard to put you through to the MacMillan nurse for the gynae department. It’s a lonely time without someone to lean on and they will be there for both of you. Best wishes and stay strong.

I got diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2022 and still going through treatment. Been through chemotherapy, an operation, radiotherapy and now on immunotherapy. The decision to not Google anything is honestly the best thing I ever did. My sister did and she was on top of that. Your treatment plan will be unique to you. People will tell you about when they had cancer but it really is unique. Go with the advice of the doctors and be kind to yourself. Yes I felt fine and thought I could not possibly have cancer. I still find it hard to believe that I have gone through what I have. People are so kind and you will really find who your friends are. Wishing you all the best but you will get through this. In my thoughts ❤❤❤

Hi guys. I'm sorry to hear of Mandy's diagnosis. I volunteer for Maggie's Cancer support charity. They have centres attached to many hospitals up and down the UK. I strongly suggest dropping in as they will support both of you at this time. They offer advice as well. Maybe just have a cuppa and biscuit and chat with others on the same situation. Hoping for your prompt recovery.

I had cancer in 2013, they kept discribing it as 'Agressive'. When I was told it was hectic. The fire alarm went off at the hospital, it was evacuated, and I was trying to take in the news I had just been given. I had so many questions, just take one day at a time, don't worry about other people, and look after yourself. I'm cancer free now and I'm sure you will be too. Big Love

The anger is understandable, I wasn’t angry at anyone in particular, just angry that it had happened. I still remember the numbness, the time standing still, having to stop working until after treatment. In that area I was lucky, it was caught early, so surgery was all that was required and they got it all with the first operation. Even after the treatment, you will need just as much support, because you no longer have the distraction of planning things around consultations and scans. You have a lot of time with just you and your thoughts. Its been over 2 years since my diagnosis and every once in a while, I find myself back in that moment when I was told. But I have done so much since then also. So when you get through it all, don’t feel too bad when you have to just let time stand still for a day or two to recharge. I have faith you will get through this. ❤

Every stage of what I have just watched takes me back to just under 2 years ago, when we were six months away from quitting our jobs and doing van life/ moving to portugal to suddenly get the shell shock news that my partner had cancer. I didn't even go to the bloody appointment with him because the specialist who suggested he get his 'lump' checked out said 1 in 20 is cancer so we were totally expecting no issues. He was in total shock when he walked in to what he thought would be a straightforward appointment to discuss getting this benign lump removed to find a macmillan nurse there. Blindsided. So, I totally understand where both your heads are right now. All I can say is it gets a little easier once you have more information - waiting for that information is torture. Wishing you all the best you will get through this with the love of your family and friends. We are out the other side and now sat in portugal :):) xx

Sorry to hear your news Mandy. I was told that I had finished the menopause. Then was still bleeding so went to my gynacologist who sent me for a scan then I was referred to a gynacologist surgeon who did a D&C. I was to go back to him in 4 weeks but he called me in and I was told I had stage 4 endometrial cancer. Straight away had a full hysterectomy with everything taken away; ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix. Then chemo and radiotherapy. Treatment finished December 2022 and have a blood test and check up every 4 months for the first 2 years with an annual scan, then after October it will go to every 6 months. It was a huge shock for me and hubby Steve. Take all the love and support you can as you will need it. Be strong through the ups and the downs ( you will have them) but you can beat this. Hi John & Mandy. With tears in my eyes I write. Mandy I wish you the best luck possible to fully overcome this. John will also need support at times to keep strong for you. I have been treated at The Christie for Melanoma. A couple of operations later and a course of treatment life goes on for me and the wife. Still able to go away in the Motorhome which we both dearly love. The Christie has made me feel really safe, the staff and support goes beyond words to describe. When I was first ‘told’ numb is a great word to describe your feelings. For me the situation was overtaken by determination, which makes such a difference. Yes those numb days will come and go. John I am sure will keep it under control! Bye for now Nigel & Glynis Bailey

Hi Mandy and John, Mandy I’m sending love and best wishes for you to kick the hell out of this horrible disease. ❤❤ People that care about you will understand that you have so much to cope with at the moment. Unfortunately I had a similar situation, the NHS said there was nothing wrong with me. I went private and they found a tumor ( the private surgeon looked at the same MRI scans that NHS did, go figure on that ), I had surgery within weeks. Take Mandy and John.

Hi John & Mandy Haven’t caught up with you for a while, and now this bad news! Only at 9:00 min, but just had to let you know - surround yourselves with POSITIVE thoughts and experiences from others. Last year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and immediately thought of my wife’s positive experiences. 50 years ago as a young woman she had cervical cancer and came through that well. About 26 years ago she had cancer of the uterus and not only survived the hysterectomy but is still with me! Thanks to my positive experiences through her success I have come through radiation and currently on hormone treatment, with a POSITIVE outcome ahead! Get angry at the situation and a system that may not always function as it should, read up on treatments and what you can reasonably do to improve your health and stamina and how to adapt to possible outcomes - but keep POSITIVE in your thoughts and interactions with each other. Be SUPPORTIVE of each other. Cheers, George

I think that was the hardest thumbs up I have ever had to give. I’m a C Survivor. Utterly shit but as another has said, doable, even when times I thought it wasn’t … here I am. Sending you my grit, determination and positive healing vibes. ❤ As with all your followers … I’m just here ❤

As a nurse, I admire your honesty and openness. You are brave and inspirational and sharing really does help for you and those who support your journey. When you have the full picture of all your results, you will feel much better and in control. The truth is always easier to manage than the unknown. Take care and keep living life as best you can.

Cancer treatments are hugely better than they were even a few years ago. I’m living with prostate cancer and it ain’t fun at times but just go with the flow of things and the best of luck for the future Mandy. I will say from my own experiences that being positive and trying to be around positive people is better ! I know you don’t feel like it at the moment but it helps. I will be willing to bet that you have loads of years annoying John yet. My wife died six months ago, very suddenly, of a cardiac arrest but she was fitter than me and had absolutely no symptoms whatsoever. Now she is not here I suddenly feel loads older than my 76 years and have many more aches and pains for no apparent reason but I have to keep going for the kids sakes. I have a fantastic support group because of being part of my local Lions group and that has helped tremendously. I agree with the sharing thing, so many people I know were in denial about prostate cancer, as in “it will never happen to me” but talking about it ALWAYS helps. Here’s to the future girl.

I don't know what to say about this video. Its just brought back so many memories about my mum and her cancer. I'm really upset for you both and I don't mind saying I've shed a couple or three of tears. Guys, to hell with the channel/content/videos. To hell with saying sorry about not letting subscribers know. YOU are the most important person Mandy and not this channel. Just get the treatment, get yourself back to normal and dont worry anything else. Chin up Mandy and grasp that Mancunian grit and fight like you never fought before. My Mum didn't fight. She just gave up and I spent each day knowing that if she'd seen about treatment she might still be here. You are made of stronger stuff Mandy. You will win. John, I know you'll be Mandy's rock no matter how hard and upsetting it is and I know from my own experience that finding the right words of support to say each day is the most diffiult thing. I'm thnking of you both, I'm sending you both all my love. Look after each other. I love you guys to bits . Much respect❤🙏-Kenny
