This man just nonchalantly said “I think people are trying to outsource the curation of their consciousness…” That one FLOORED me! These talks are such a blessing!

As a former evangelical, this conversation is very encouraging to hear. Nice to see the teachings and thinkings of Jesus interpreted outside of the stranglehold of western (especially reformed) theology. This resonates as good and true to me.

Here I am watching this on my phone in bed ..... I need to put the phone in the other room. Rationalizing that I am watching something good still results in too little sleep and time away from Jesus in the quiet. Thank you John Mark!!

It's great to see Dallas Willard's themes picked up and carried on, and put in such practical terms. Willard's books were often a bit dense and academic, but his recorded lectures frequently revealed the pastoral nature of his intentions. The same here: the intent here is not to grow a church, or sell books, or start a 'movement,' but rather to help people to see how to be with God, and to help them enter that life, and, as Willard said, "become the kind of person who naturally and easily follow the commandments of Jesus." The world yearns for such people.

Why should we not sleep with our phones in or at our bed? I listen to podcasts of my favourite preachers last thing (you guys) and I awake to answer comments from moslems on other shorts.... Praying incessantly...

I volunteered with a youth group who go to children's hospitals with their guitars and singers front the church band... sing kids favourite songs and hand out donated toys Gotta say after just 3 visits I grew more as a person and a christian than a year of sundays and bible studies ..I got a birthday card from a 11 year old dying of cancer you know that's where jesus really lives once that happens to you ..I think we can lose our way with so much availably in church and utube videos we can forget what is is we are called to to do.

Thank you so much for this conversation. Hearing that out of 30 minutes of contemplative prayer there may only be 30 seconds of connection because of our minds darting... this is so encouraging, because you've been practicing this longer than I have. Now I understand my experience is normal and I'm encouraged to persevere. Thanks for the examples of what works in your lives, for us to try.

I use A.C.T.S. prayer - adoration (abc's of who God is), confession (release what's blocking me), thanksgiving, and the supplication. It always feels good focusing and opening to God first. I don't always get to the S though which is typically not why I'm doing the prayer.

When I'm praying, I speak but there is no sound back responding to me, I just believe that I have been heard. My question is, do you listen to Jesus as you pray?
