10 years ago I was single, alone and miserable, John Mayer's songs we a comforting solace to a drunk who couldn't hold down a relationship, even when my life literally depended on it. Fast forward 10years, I'm 7 years sober, married with 3 kids and just found John again, to listen and remind me where I was and where I am now.

Once you realize that the alcohol makes no difference, then you realize it is all about YOU, without any excuses. IF you are still married, it has less to do with alcohol, and FAR MORE to do with the fact that YOU showed up, and you did it while you still had time. Keep it up. Show her why she is important to you. It doesn't matter if you are married, or if you are just dating, be sure to remember that the courtship never ends!! For example, if you are married, call your wife at her office and tell her to pack a suitcase for the weekend. When she tries to challenge you, and ask you "where are we going?", you tell her that is for ME to know and YOU to find out! She will eat it up. She needs this storybook to unfold in front of her. DO THIS! It is senseless to do otherwise, and repeat my pain. Give your woman a sense of adventure. She deserves it.

Its 2022 and this song is still one of the most epic ones.
This has been my breakup song for years. This one is by far the most painful/most relatable one yet. sometimes we change for the better, sometimes we change soo much we can no longer recognize each other. love your partner every night before you sleep, put effort in, always do. Never blame him/her for your unhappiness, no matter how much you think he/she pissed you off, kiss them before you go to sleep, say i love you. nothing destroys love better than holding grudges. Because at the end of the day, all of your grudges isn't nearly as valuable as the irreplaceable love you two have found for each other. TRUST ME.

John Mayer's guitar riffs , chords and his tunes are unique , he is a class of his own , he will go down history as one the greatest guitarist in the likes of Santana, Clapton , John Mayall, Peter Framton , Lindsay Buckingham and the likes
@JgHaverty7 ай бұрын
"Framton" lol. I get your point but ... your list sucks haha. Youre confusing ":good songwriter" with "good guitarist" as well lol. Peter frampton? Cmon man haha. Hes a talented lyricist and song writer; hes not a virtuoso guitar player known for his chops haha. .And lindsay buckingham? Really? keep in mind, you said "guitarist". Not musician... not lyricist... not vocalist or songwritier... but GUITARIST. If you said like ... mark knopfler and david gilmour instead of these two Id have raised and eyebrow and moved along; but your list sucks lol

@@JgHaverty sorry Haverty if I hurt your musician idols sentiments...just that I have been listening to a lot of John Mayer on KZbin music and his guitaring to me is unique, prolly I should have mentioned as lyricist and musician like Peter Framton .....got a little carried away listening to John Mayer....this is what boredom does to you when one silently keeps spending hours on their phone looking at reels and stuff..😄 Hey BTW Lindsay Buckingham is a good guitarist , might not be so popular as Mark Knopfler but a few of FWM guitar leads are mesmerizing ( at least to me )

As he said: it's a warfare and metaphorically it's a great way to compare a heartbreak, the phase you're going through after a breakup feels just like a battlefield with all the actions in motion all against you and all you're trying to do is try to survive all the things that may make you feel pain, the memories, the moments you'll need to forget to move on and other stuff lol. Heartbreak Warfare it's just a masterpiece, plus he wrote the lyrics in a very simple way, not too many details, maybe not so many words but musically a smart choice.

Back in 2006 - I had heard of John Mayer just from songs on the radio, but didn't really pay much attention to him as an artist. He was the headliner on the last day at a business conference I was at and I almost passed on going that night. I thought - "Oh well, it's a free concert, don't know much about John Mayer, so why not?" He did a 10 song set and absolutely blew me away with his guitar playing. (I am pretty sure he changed guitars for every single song). I already liked his voice and knew a few songs from the radio, but I was not prepared for how talented he was on the guitar. I was a converted disciple on the spot. He was amazing!! I was mesmerized from the first song. He was very unassuming on stage and continually pointed to his band throughout the performance and was nothing like what I expected. After that, I started really listening to his music and he has become my one of my favorite singer, songwriter, and musicians and is a Go-To choice when someone asks, "What do you want to hear?" John Mayer. Who? Let me introduce you to this artist... (I also feel the same way about Sara Bareilles. Who? Look her up - she is amazing!!)

My best friend Willie Vega, the best guitarist I've ever met introduced me to John Mayer before it was even on the radio we were just listening to it in his recording studio. I remember him telling me that he loved how innocently he talks about being intimate not being raunchy
@pepperjanehq3 жыл бұрын
Indeed. When he talks about '... Wonderland', it's comforting how it was just a fantasy, imagining kind of song. . . and he explains "you have to be very innocent to write a song that says 'your body is a wonderland'..." almost like it blows his own mind to recall that time. :) How he deals with that song and how he presents it, joking that he locks eyes with someone who looks the least interested in hearing this thing before playing it, and has a staring contest with them, is very adorable. Yes to your whole point. Yes. Even in the brand new lyric "if you wanna roll me, then you gotta roll me all night long", I kinda think he's going for the broader meaning, but he makes room for people to take it where they want to. That universal song writing he talks about is so well executed. The line in this song that says "maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours": I didn't like too much for a while then I realised it's probably mostly meaning 'I will find myself on your axis', rather than on your mattress... but again, it's ambiguity leaves space for an individual's interpretation and relatability - to make these songs a companion for us and take them with us as our own individualised friend. Amen. (Have you ever listened to the NPR interview, with Talia Schlanger the week before 'The Search for Everything' came out? It is glorious. ICYMI: www.npr.org/sections/world-cafe/2017/04/14/523652905/john-mayer-on-world-cafe )

Three months ago I went out with a girl I loved a lot, we went to a party and she introduced me to her friends, we had a great time together, this song was playing in the Uber we took to her place, it all felt so good, the lights of the avenue gave me the perfect lighting to apreciate every little detail of her face, her Big brown eyes were giving me this feeling of well being and peace I've had never felt before. It was a moment so beautiful I even had to close my eyes and take a deep breath, I was overwelmed by the Beauty of life and love

I was little lost 12 years ago. Ive just finished high school and was at the beginning of my adult life. I had no clue on where to go, but I remember when I heard this song, it gave me a sense of what's beautiful with life. And it became one fo my favourite songs until this day. Now when I listen to it, I think back of my beginning of my life. And it gives me a sense of hope. That everything will be alright. Perhaps not right now. But it will. Keep on going forward!

*Heartbreak warfare* - John *Mayer* - Lyrics Lighting strikes inside my chest to keep me up at night Dream of ways to make you understand my pain Clouds of sulfur in the air Bombs are falling everywhere It's heartbreak warfare Once you want it to begin No one really ever wins in heartbreak warfare If you want more love, why don't you say so? If you want more love, why don't you say so? Drop his name Push it in and twist the knife again Watch my face as I pretend to feel no pain, pain, pain Clouds of sulfur in the air Bombs are falling everywhere It's heartbreak warfare Once you want it to begin No one really ever wins in heartbreak warfare If you want more love, why don't you say so? If you want more love, why don't you say so? Just say so [...] How come the only way to know how high to get me is to see how far I fall God only knows how much I'd love you if let me But I can't break through it all It's a heart, heartbreak I don't care if we don't sleep at all tonight Let's just fix this whole thing now I swear to God we're gonna get it right If you lay your weapons down Red wine and ambient You're talking shit again Heartbreak warfare Good to know it's all a game Disappoinment has a name, it's: heartbreak, heartbreak It's heartbreak warfare (3x)

Had been a John Mayer for about 10 years when Battles Studies came out. Loved every song. Had never seen John live though. I was lucky enough to go see him on my birthday for the very first time while in college. And what does he do? Shoots a music video at my first concert to see him. Thanks John. I’ll never forget this.

Despite the subject matter, this song is fun! I don’t subscribe to warfare of any kind, but especially heartbreak. There’s enough damage already done to need anything more to escalate it. I don’t do heartbreak warfare at all! It’s make love, not war All the way for me ❣️❣️❣️

This was the first John Mayer song I heard many many years ago. I think it was in a tv commercial... Immediately fell in love with it. I was just a boy, enjoying the tune, then became a fan. I'm in my 20s now, and I can relate and understand what he's saying in his songs, whether it is in the lyrics or his guitar playing. This song surely brings back memories of discovering John and being just a boy.
