I genuinely don't think people understand the simplistic brilliance in John Mayer's music. He isn't just a phenomenal guitar player/singer. He's seriously one of the most poetically intricate songwriters in generations. He's up there with the greats. Unfortunately, it'll probably take a long time for people to really appreciate that about him.

"And half of my heart is the part of a man who's never truly loved anything" Deep words. Any man can relate to this after facing their first heartbreak. As a man I think the first time you love cannot be replicated. "Down the road later on you will hate that I never gave more to you than half of my heart" Again, more deep words. You can love again but not like the first time. John Mayer is the goat.

The most difficult aspect of love is being willing to give your everything, your heart and soul, your weaknesses and sensitivities, and your trust and devotion. Its a song about someone who is screwed up from his past. Hence "I was born in the arms of imaginary friends" and "I was made to believe that Id never love somebody else" Meaning, he did not have anyone to count on or to love him and in fact he was brought up to believe that love wasn't meant for him. He wasn't taught to love so he doesn't know how and too afraid to take that chance. He does the woman a favour by walking away. Who the hell wants someone who is only capable of loving with half of their heart. Sad song actually.

this song used to remind me of my very first love. I knew he didn't feel the same way as me and I would stay up late and listen to this song and cry because I knew he didn't love me 100% but I couldn't let him go. he ended up leaving me, and it was hard. took over a good year and half to move on. 2 years after he left, he comes back into my life and says he knew the minute he left that he had made a mistake. Long story short, it took me 1 full year to forgive him and now we've been together for a year. But when I hear this song, it reminds me of how I felt and I get sad just thinking about those times.

Long were the nights when my Days once revolved around you Counting my footsteps Praying the floor won't fall through, again My mother accused me of losing my mind, but I swore I was fine You paint me blue sky Then go back and turn it to rain And I lived in your chess game But you changed the rules every day Wondering which version of you I might get on the phone Tonight Well, I stopped picking up, and this song is to let you know why Dear John I see it all now that you're gone Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home I should've known Well, maybe it's me And my blind optimism to blame Or maybe it's you and your sick need To give love then take it away And you'll add my name to your long list of traitors Who don't understand And I'll look back and regret I ignored when they said, "Run as fast as you can" Dear John I see it all now that you're gone Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home Dear John I see it all now, it was wrong Don't you think nineteen's Too young to be played by your dark, twisted games? When I loved you so I should've known You are an expert at sorry And keeping lines blurry Never impressed by me acing your tests All the girls that you've run dry Have tired, lifeless eyes 'cause you burned them out But I took your matches before fire could catch me So don't look now I'm shining like fireworks Over your sad empty town Oh-oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Dear John I see it all now that you're gone Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home I see it all now that you're gone Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress wrote you a song You should've known You should've known Don't you think I was too young? You should've known

“If I ever get around to living I'm gonna put my things away In the drawers and in the closets And there I'll stay, stay If I ever get around to living It'll be just like I dreamed I'm gonna take the love I'm given And set it free, free If I ever get around to living I'll take the end of every day Tie it up to every morning And sail away, away Free Free Maybe it's all a dream I'm having at seventeen I don't have tattoos And very soon Mother will be calling me Saying "come up stairs, You got some work to do" When you gonna wise up, boy? When you gonna wise up, boy? When you gonna wise up, boy? When you gonna wise up, boy? You are hiding in your mind Working all the time Trying to make it better than you got it You been spending all your time Searching for a sign That's never gonna look the way you want it I think you better wise up, boy I think you better wise up, boy I think you better wise up, boy I think you better wise up, boy” - John Mayer P.S. 27 days until John’s tour starts and I’m going to one of the concerts 🎶

When first heard this song about a decade ago, I thought I can relate to it temporarily, because I was just young. Now, I really can relate to it and It's been a part of who I am. I am in a relationship for 4 years now and I still don't have plans for settling down even we are already stable and in the right age.

This song makes me fall in love with the version of myself that exists deep down! The one that I don't want to be... The one that is suppressed... The one that shouldn't come up... The one that is forbidden... The one that is an abomination... The one that is real... The one that is hated and resented.... This song makes me fall in love with the most hated version of myself... ❤✨

This is an awesome JM song because it captures the feeling of not being completely in love with someone. That's a pretty tough space for both people. The 'half-heart-loved' person feels that. Even if they accept it, it's not a good feeling to live with. The 'half-heart-lover' person feels guilty for not being able to fully commit to the other person. I was glad to see the lover person cross over and do the right thing. John chose to write him that way, reflecting himself, a true Master, the Man and the King ❣🌟💎👑

John Mayer - Half of My Heart I was born in the arms of imaginary friends Free to roam, made a home out of everywhere I've been Then you come crashing in, like the realest thing Trying my best to understand all that your love can bring Oh half of my heart's got a grip on the situation Half of my heart takes time Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you That I can't keep loving you (can't keep loving you) Oh, with half of my heart I was made to believe I'd never love somebody else I made a plan, stay the man who can only love himself Lonely was the song I sang, 'till the day you came Showing me a another way and all that my love can bring Oh half of my heart's got a grip on the situation Half of my heart takes time Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you That I can't keep loving you (can't keep loving you) Oh, with half of my heart With half of my heart Your faith is strong But I can only fall short for so long Down the road, later on You will hate that I never gave more to you than half of my heart But I can't stop loving you (I can't stop loving you) I can't stop loving you (I can't stop loving you) I can't stop loving you with half of my Half of my heart Oh, half of my heart Half of my heart's got a real good imagination Half of my heart's got you Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you That half of my heart won't do Half of my heart is a shotgun wedding To a bride with a paper ring And half of my heart is the part of a man Who's never truly loved anything Half of my heart Oh, half of my heart Half of my heart Oh, half of my heart Half of my heart Oh, half of my heart
