Its a song about someone who is screwed up from his past. Hence "I was born in the arms of imaginary friends" and "I was made to believe that Id never love somebody else" Meaning, he did not have anyone to count on or to love him and in fact he was brought up to believe that love wasn't meant for him. He wasn't taught to love so he doesn't know how and too afraid to take that chance. He does the woman a favour by walking away. This is an awesome JM song because it captures the feeling of not being completely in love with someone. That's a pretty tough space for both people. The 'half-heart-loved' person feels that. Even if they accept it, it's not a good feeling to live with. The 'half-heart-lover' person feels guilty for not being able to fully commit to the other person. I was glad to see the lover person cross over and do the right thing. John chose to write him that way, reflecting himself, a true Master, the Man and the King ❣🌟💎👑

It’s not about John. The line “half of my heart is the part of a man who’s never truly loved anything” is unfinished. Because of the the other lines surrounding it (“shotgun wedding” and “paper ring”) it is left to assume that the last line finishes with “never truly loved anything (besides her)”

this song used to remind me of my very first love. I knew he didn't feel the same way as me and I would stay up late and listen to this song and cry because I knew he didn't love me 100% but I couldn't let him go. he ended up leaving me, and it was hard. took over a good year and half to move on. 2 years after he left, he comes back into my life and says he knew the minute he left that he had made a mistake. Long story short, it took me 1 full year to forgive him and now we've been together for a year. But when I hear this song, it reminds me of how I felt and I get sad just thinking about those times.

It's just my opinion maybe I need some time for born and raised to grow on me, its not a awful album, it has a couple of nice singles but the whole album its just not memorable. Just my opinion. I like that he is trying new sounds but I miss his usual sound. I wish he would have a little bit of everything in future albums.
