Awesome vlog buddy. Some amazing footage & stills. What a beautiful area. I love the colouration on those pelicans, they look stunning!❤

Thank you Peter. It had become a dismal place for a while> I dont know if they had dredged it and killed the flow but it was stagnant for a while. It has come back to life and simply an amazing time to go shoot. And only 25 minutes away!!! 🙏💖🤗

Cant wait to use this lens. I agree and I think it would be a good choice for a nice sunny day with lots of light. And old 600 F4 is nice to have but its so big and bulky its kind of a pain to drag around. A smaller handy lens with lots of reach seems like a winner.

Exactly - advantages and disadvantages. This is a fun lens and I do love the zoom!!! 🙏😁💖

Beautiful pelicano! I love those birds running up and down with the waves. One of them has only one leg and manage to go as fast as the others. Well done Jonny! 😀

Thank you Chris. I noticed that when I was editing. At first I felt bad for it but it sure kept up with the others with no problems. It overcame its adversity and looked as happy as all the others. At least I think it was happy!!! 🙏😁💖

Great images, especially the Pelicans. I have an R7 and am currently using an EF400 DO Mk11 sometimes with a 1.4 or 2 x converter and am seriously thinking about this 200-800 lens for the extra reach without having to use converters. Your videos are very helpful as they mention the downsides as well the ups. I live on the East Coast of England near the Wash so have some fantastic areas for bird photography.

Than you!!! It is a fantastic lens and I really love the zoom. I was out shooting yesterday I think, comparing the 100-500 with the 1.4 and the 200-800 (again LOVE the zoom LOL). I have been comparing the two even though the 100-500 is L glass. I have not used the 400mm so I can not comment on that, but I can tell you that the images with the new RF glass is awesome - and you will have the zoom. 🙏💖🤗

Those little birds were so cool. What a love hate relationship with this lens lol. As long as it does for you what you want when you want then you should be fine

In sun, it is great.... and better on the R5 even with less reach. I was using the R7 as that is what most are shooting and I really wanted to give this a fair shake on this camera body. I just have to work around the limitations like anything else. i do LOVE the zoom! 🙏😁💖

Jonny Pink! Thanks for your openness on the 200-800 with the r7. I really appreciate that. AI plan to use the 200-800 on my r5, which suits me just fine. Now if I could just get it. :)
@JonnyPink6511 ай бұрын
I do prefer this on the R5 for sure. The ISO does not seem to go as high and even when it does, the R5 handles it better. I want to go out with the RF 100-500 and 1.4 extender to compare the two on both the R5 and R7. Planning on shooting hummingbirds for that. 700 F10 comparing to 800 F9. No lens or set up is perfect so I just have to learn the limitations and look at the advantages. LOVE the zoom and reach. . 🙏😁💖

After 40 yrs with canon I landed on the Lumix G92 and 100-400. Zoom ring not great but keeper rate very improved over 7D2 and Tamron 150-600v2 . Only have had it for a few rainy days in Fort Worth.
@JonnyPink6511 ай бұрын
I wanted to try that and was waiting for the rental company to have it in stock. I forgot about that so thank you for reminding me. As far as Canon, the Sigma 150-600 is not as sharp as any of the Canon EF or RF lenses on the new Canon mirrorless bodies. i used to use the Tamron on my Nikons but never did try it on my Canon bodies. 🙏😁💖

Here in EU, absolutely out of stock, in small, as well as big retailers, even Canon specialist in my country not received any copy since day one, others only few.

Hi! thanks for sharing!! Image quality wise (sharpness, contrast), do you consider the rf 200-800 at the same level as sigma 150-600mm? at 600mm just to be fair..
@JonnyPink6511 ай бұрын
I put that as a hands down yes - it is sharper. I liked the Sigma contemporary adapted to the R bodies but I think the Canon RF lenses are just sharper. The native Canon EF lenses are flawless on the new RF bodies. It is my hope though that Sigma does announce that they are releasing native RF glass in the near future - I really want to try those if they do. 🙏😁💖

So did you figure out that auto focus issue with that new lens on that R7? Many people are saying that it misses often for no apparent reason on the R7. Great shots!
@JonnyPink6511 ай бұрын
Thank you. I use the manual focus a lot on my lenses depending on the situation to help a lens find the subject - that is the way I grew up so to speak. I wanted to shoot it more on the R7 to give it a fair shake. It can and does produce some sharp images on the R7, but like many others, I too prefer it on the R5! 🙏😁💖

My experience using it on the R7 was mildly ok, AF seemed off with BIF. Works great on the R6MII.
@JonnyPink6511 ай бұрын
I agree as far as the R7 goes. I really wanted to shoot it a bit more on the R7 to give it a fair shake. I prefer it on the old R5 that I have. 🙏😁💖

I remember that your first impression on your first video about this lens was that you want to send it back to Canon because the position of the focus ring ...You say in this video that the photos on the R7 are not as sharp as you wish does it mean that you can't do a really sharp photo even if you make the focus manually on the R7 ?
@JonnyPink6511 ай бұрын
This lens performs better on the R5 than it does on the R7 but it does produce some sharp images. I feel fortunate to have it since so many are waiting for it and I may have missed my window to return it. I want to go out to compare it to the 100-500 with the 1.4 extender on it to see which is sharper. I get more misses with this lens on the R7 than I do on the R5 - at least that is my perception. I will say that it it NOT a low light lens. The manual focus I use for busy backgrounds or subject at the minimum focus distance - that is where the 100-500 is simply superior even with less reach. In spring and summer for the butterflies and dragonflies I love to shoot, this will be sitting at home and the 100-500 will be on my camera. But I do want to do a comparison with hummingbirds sometime this week. It needs light and even the 800 F11 can be a sharp lens. 🙏😁💖

Lagoon. I love going there. It is Malibu Lagoon State Beach. It rises and falls with the tide. The river that enters there makes it all look different with each rain and storm. 🙏😁💖

Need to see ISO settings. 100-500 still better in low light
@JonnyPink6510 ай бұрын
In my experience, the camera body plays more into the low light performance and how clean the images are at high ISO. Not much difference between F9 and F10. I am not too happy with the R7 at say 8000 ISO where as the R5 at 10,000 is still usable. The R3 even at 16,000 was impressive...... and all with the 200-800. Having said that, I prefer the 100-500 even with an extender on the R7 over the 200-800. For me, the 200-800 is just better on the R5 and R3. 🙏💖🤗

John you got some great photos ( great composition ) of the Birds the only problem is they're all just slightly soft and that's not because of you , it's because of this Lens it just is not up to the standards of the 100 to 500 which is an L-series Lens it's that simple . Like what you said here John I totally agree it is just not a good lens sharpness is not there auto focusing certainly isn't there because it's an F9 lens . Canon lately has been making way too many cheap products and this is just another example of it , they should have made it an internal Zoom like what Sony and Nikon have done with their zooms that go to 600 , I just can't understand the new management at Canon they just don't care about good photography anymore it's that simple , It is the almighty dollar that is stopping them and that is it .
@JonnyPink6511 ай бұрын
Thank you! I agree - they are soft on the R7 where as the 100-500 even with the 1.4 on the R7 are super sharp. I said that is some of my other videos when I got this lens and like the 800 F11, I prefer it on the R5. I wanted to shoot it a couple of times to make sure it was the lens on the R7 and not just the light. I then did a comparison of the 200-800 and 100-500 with the extender 800 F9 VS 700 F10 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/faSudJmhe6l6Z7s and I am happy with the results. Up close, it is not as sharp as the 100-500 with the extender and I prefer the shorter lens so I have access to the focus ring for the little ones in the bushes. It does struggle there a bit more than the 100-500. But it does have the zoom. I think for most, it will be a awesome less expensive choice. It does take sharp photos, I enjoy shooting it and just accept that not all the shots will be perfect. I only need one or two to make me happy anyway!! 🙏🤗💖
