Nice video John, I love my R8 as an all round camera, I also love the extra reach and pixel density of the R7! as a combination I don’t think you can beat them for the price. The R5ii looks great but it is a little outside my set budget, plus as you implied, the power on and video switching buttons are the wrong way round!
@JonnyPink65Ай бұрын
I think I may talk about the R8 too much LOL. I really, really love that body and prefer - yes I did say prefer - the digital image stabilization of the IBIS - there, I have said it. I dont need one but I do want to get one when or if it goes on sale. I should check Canons used site!!! I love that body. for video, I use the R50 - another AMAZING little body. 🙏💖🤗

Thank You very much! Great stuff! Some users say that the Canon R5 Mark II is worse at handling large telephoto lenses - large lenses to shift and low power compared to the R3 and R1. What do You think?
@JonnyPink65Ай бұрын
I dont have the R1 so I cant speak to that and will keep my R3 over getting an R1 LOL. I have not found a difference in IQ other than the R3 is better in low light and high ISO with any lens over the R5 Mark II. One lens I have found I LOVE on the R5 Mark II so far is the 200-800. I like it on the R5 and on the R3 it was Ok, but on this one, I am really enjoying shooting it. I have another video I am working on with the 200-800 on the R5 Mark II. Since I did bring up the ISO, one thing I am finding is that the R5 II is not a high ISO body, at least not for me. I have pushed the R3 up to 12800 and higher and been happy with the images. The R5 II - about 6500 is as high as I want to go - past that, the images even with the Lightroom software are just not of a quality I want. So, I use a slower shutter and accept motion blur. ISO performance is what I have found for me. 🙏💖🤗

Interesting comment on the video/photo switch and the power switch. I definitely prefer what is on the R5 II compared to the R5 as I absolutely hated the mode switch with a second button necessary to switch between photo and video, but I also hated the on/off switch on the left side of the camera. I do wish they would have put it in the same spot that Sony has their on/off switch as I can turn on the camera as I'm lifting it up and immediately be on the shutter button. I do remember that the Canon 1DIV on/off switch was in a pretty good position for my thumb to turn on the camera as I was lifting it up....maybe that would have been a good option here. I don't really like having much on the left side of the camera as it is only useful when on a tripod but the video/photo switch is likely the best one for me to have there if they must since I don't use it much unless on a tripod (not so good for others as I can see in the comments).
@JonnyPink65Ай бұрын
We all want something other than what they give us LOL, they just cant win. 😂 Because the R5 did not have a dedicated switch that I remember, setting a button for me was ideal - all with the right hand. The R3 switch works for me too. This one is inconvenient but like everything, I am getting used to it. I didn't use to shoot this much wildlife video, but I am really enjoying it as well. I can push the record button but it only gives me 4K I think it is. I will keep working with the menus. If I don't find it, no worries - overall, I really like what the body is offering. Thank you for letting me share. 🙏💖🤗

@@JonnyPink65 it is so difficult to make everyone happy. I sold my R5 with the expectation that the R5 II will be better for what and how I like to shoot. I still believe it will be just that. At the moment all the major companies have camera gear in this price range which is more than capable of getting the shots I may have missed 10 or 20 years ago so it is hard to complain too much :)
@JonnyPink65Ай бұрын
@@barryscully1820 I can not complain either. The tech does get better and we are fortunate to have all this at our fingertips. I was watching an old movie last night (early 70s or so), small camera and a flash - film of course, and thinking - how did we get by? And no cell phones - how did we drive cross country or what did we do when we got stuck? LOL The tech we have access to is amazing and fun!!! And hey, Betamax was new once too! 💖

No big deal - I did manage to find one an charging it right now as I sit here. Now, to find the cooling grip. You can use your old native Canon batteries but you lose the 8K and I think 30 FPS. Will get you by in a pinch. However, I have been able to shoot two days in a row, about 4 hours each day and not charge the battery. It does really last a long time. Not a perfect body - none of them are, but it is pretty awesome. 💖🤗🙏

Nice review, but WHY OH WHY after making an easy way to switch to video in the Mark 1 did they choose that method, it's just about a deal breaker for me...are any of the buttons on the shutter release side customisable to start/stop video ?
@JonnyPink65Ай бұрын
I have heard they are not but I have not tried. You can just push record and it goes into 1080 auto record and that is not what I want. It looks good and I did include some in there. I shoot almost everything hand held for the freedom and like anything, I will get used to it. But it should have been a no brainer to switch those two buttons on a flagship hybrid camera. And in truth, I have just been having fun processing the images and madly editing so I dont get overwhelmed. I will look deeper into the menus when I have a chance. I took about two minutes to set it up like I do each new camera (gets easer with each one) and keep tweaking as I go along. 🙏💖🤗

Is the R3 better though or just 2 different breeds? Thanks
@JonnyPink65Ай бұрын
Two different breeds. The 24 megapixels makes the inflight endless shooting for dragonflies better. Smaller files make it easier to process in batches even uncompressed. I think the R3 is better at higher ISO - cleaner. The R5 Mark II though seems to have a better AF. As crazy as it sounds the R8 and R6 II have a slightly better AF than the R3. Just my opinion based on the way I shoot. The best camera is always the one in your hand!! None are perfect, all have drawbacks, but we all keep chasing the same new shiny high. 🙏🤗💖

@@JonnyPink65 Thank you, I own an R3, was thinking about the R5 mark ii or another R3….Here are my thoughts, the battery life is great on the R3. The R3 has the “Smart controller”….now what it lacks, the 21mpcmore….. as you said “No camera is perfect “ , I agree..nothing is “Ideal”, there are tradeoffs I guess with each…your pics are awesome, truly love them….the other thing I like about the R5 mark ii, it has more range of shooting speeds…it will put a big dent in my wallet, but you only live once, at least as far as I know:)
@JonnyPink65Ай бұрын
@@richardreynolds8326 Live for today, live RIGHT NOW!! That is my motto and I got it from my mom. Bills come and go and are always there so I dont worry about those as they are all current after all necessities are taken care of - got that from my mom too. The battery on the R3 is endless - I dont think I have ever had to switch to my second battery. What I missed most going from the R5 I to the R3 was the 8K. Since I have less megapixel density to work with the using the R3, I really try to fill my frame as much as possible. I still crop but try to limit it a bit. AND - the R3 to me seems to be WAY better at high ISO over the R5 Mark II. Could be my imagination though. For me personally, to have another camera for wildlife (events would be another matter), I would get an R5 Mark II, an R8 (yes I LOVE the digital stabilization) or an R5 Mark I if you like shooting in 8K. To me, it seems the AF has just gotten better on each new release - almost like they are testing it out. Just my opinion after renting and shooting each of the different releases. The R50 is what I shoot on because it too has AMAZING AF. 🙏🤗💖

Wouldnt it make more sense to have the lock button on the photo/video switch? There are a few weird limitations. With fully digital cameras nowadays I would expect complete freedom. Even let us change the on/off switch to photo/video. My cheap phone allows pretty much every function on its buttons so why cant cameras do the same I wonder?

I know my daughter shoots film and develops it herself - she works at a shop in downtown LA, but she shoots on older - OLDER - camera bodies and uses older lenses.. She makes a lot of money doing that. I think she bought most of her stuff at second hand stores even though I would have given her any camera of mine she wanted. The vibe she has would not be there with the digital over the film. Emma Knowles @thetherealemma.K on Instagram is my daughter..... and B&H will have film cameras. 🙏💖🤗

hi John. I am happy with the stills I get with my R5 first release. Problem is that I would like a grab and go 2nd body for video purposes because I noted that stills are not as much appreciated by the general public. I saw a video of a youtuber who is not happy with the sharpness of the canon r5ii when shooting video. Any comment about that? kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZ6cqJanbLugiKc Michael Johnson Productions

Depending on your video needs the R6mark2 is a great camera for video. The lower megapixel means more light per pixel so better in low light and less cpu needed. For birding I do not care for my R62 (not enough resolution so I prefer my R7 or R5mark2) but my experience with video with it has been excellent and its great for my portrait photos. That being said I also recently got a DJI pocket 3 and my initial impressions of it are amazing. Built in gimble, great video quality, and portable. So if you are just looking for vlog closeup video and plan to be on the go I would look into the DJI product. I have not compared my R5mark2 to R6mark2 video yet so I can't comment on if there is actually any quality difference but I doubt for 4k there is and R6 has the low light advantage. Just my 2 cents.
@JonnyPink65Ай бұрын
The R5 Mark I is an amazing camera and I dont think you can go wrong. As far as a second body as @spyder000069 is saying, I really think it depends on what you are shooting. If you are shooting wildlife, the R7 is good for video, but my favorite after using most of canons mirrorless ..... the R50 that film myself on 95% of the time. I really enjoyed the R8 (the digital stabilization I found that I prefer over IBIS and I am the only one that will say that. I am sure.) The R8 is the same as the R6 Mark II at a lower price - same AF, same sensor with no IBIS and a few less features I think that I did not use. The tracking and AF just gets better with each Canon release IMO based on my use and what I have seen. I keep watching the R8 for myself and if if it drops in price or goes on sale, I will get one that I dont need. And then we need to talk about lenses. If for wildlife, what are you going to pare it with? I will watch that video but if someone is not happy with the sharpness of the R5 Mark II, it could be the lens it is pared with. The RF lenses are pretty amazing, even the inexpensive ones. I do use older EF ones but for me and what I found, the 3rd party EF lenses (Tamron and Sigma) are not where near as good as even the cheap RF lenses. I hope this helps. If not, I will answer more if I can. I have been happy with my video and it has mostly been handheld.🙏💖🤗
