I think you nailed it with the 'good tones that are easy to access' comment. That's the appeal for a lot of folks. They need or want to go direct for some reason and just don't want to mess with an entire floor unit. Also: you nailed the I Believe in a Thing Called Love outro solo. 🤘

@paulg1897Ай бұрын
Amazing playing! You sparked some ideas. If you have an HX Stomp, (or Helix), you could put the UA in the loop as a block, put HX native distortions before the amp(block) and HX native delay and reverb behind the amp (block). If you like the native cabs in the HX, you could probably disable the cabs in the UA and use HX. I guess it's all possible, depends on how much plumbing you want to do.
@jensfriedmusicАй бұрын
I‘d capture my favourite settings with the tonex and play the profiles with the tonex pedal in the hx stomp’s fx loop. That‘s imho the best sounding combination when it comes to most detailed amp tones in a digital format plus bread&butterFX (plus a little extra stuff) and it doesn‘t really bust the bank. Besides that, great playing as always. 🤘
@CharLessMajor7MusicАй бұрын
Tonex One I think is a heaven sent for HX stomp. It’s like adding extra upgrade with only $150.
@jensfriedmusicАй бұрын
Totally agree. But I needed more flexibility for playing live, so I bought the big one as I didn‘t like the drives from the hx as much as the captures. Probably I’ll getting a second big tonex for playing drive/boost/preamp captures into different clean captures on the other one. To me some cleans behave better with specific drives than others and vice versa.

I loved your tone on that gig footage. Your criticism is valid though; I might have already bought one if it had at least some way of externally switching or one more preset. I also would be down for more gig footage.
@ShinyShinyBlackАй бұрын
It seems like having the “preset” switch be a toggle between the channels with a long hold to go back to WYSIWYG mode should be very easy for UA to program. That would solve the two channel amp problem without having to do a format revision
@andrewmeldrim1831Ай бұрын
Hi John, I have been using a UAFX Lion in my pedalboard with my delay and reverb after the amp in the chain. Something I do to make it feel more natural to me is take my Lovepedal Amp11 pedal always on right in front of the Lion. I turn my volume down on the guitar and it gets me very dynamic cleans. I feel it also helps the drives going in to the Amp11 and Lion sound less abrupt when engaging them.
@mikemclatchey2929Ай бұрын
UA makes some great stuff...Fractal just sounds great and eliminates unnecessary complexity though. I think for a pedal board the UA stuff is just top notch
@stevelibertyАй бұрын
Since you were using the Zendrive, with the Enigmatic set clean, the Enigmatic's Dumble characteristics really don't have much impact IMO. I suppose any clean platform amp/amp model/capture/profile would have provided pretty much the same tone. Sounded like you (as always). And its not just that tone comes from your hands, its also that you are really skilled at dialing in tones that please you - and they pretty consistently sound this way, regardless of what you are playing through.
@TheBbtlegitАй бұрын

@uwedasler425Ай бұрын
Seriously, get a Tonex Pedal (can be found from around 350 Euros) and e.g. the Amalgam Audio Two Rock TS-1 DI tone models (18 Euros). They do sound better (without any doubt), and you can save and recall (Dumble like) 150 presets on the device if you need that many, and the display will even tell you what you are actually playing. No need to fumble around with Bluetooth which interferes with at least 2 devices per person in the audience and is an open invitation to hackers. UA is receiving valid criticism about these devices since the first ones came out - I have not seen a single review that did not call out the lack of proper presets and midi in the last two years. Obviously UA is not interested in the customer - time to act accordingly. Somehow companies like Keeley, Flower Pedals, Alexander Pedals (just to name a few) can build pedals half the size that do presets and in most cases even midi properly for the same or less money while having absolutely comparable processing power. Just look at the revised Walrus ACS-1... 6 amps and cabs, custom IR support, an OLED display, full size midi in and out/thru, 128 presets on the device... in standard sized pedal.

Different strokes. I HATE presets and don’t want them anywhere near my amp. Even channel switching feels a bit elaborate to me. If I want different tones, that’s what hands and pickups are for. I really, really want to be able to reach out and just touch a knob to make adjustments on the fly.

So I was initially put off by the interface limitations of the UA stuff, but have consistently gigged the wet effects for last number of months with the understanding that their use case is WYSIWYG. I’m quite pleased at the moment with a dual ToneX setup, but if I wasn’t, I’d be hopping on this and the Lion to run Wet (Enigmatic)/Dry (Lion). I tend to be set/forget with amp sounds beyond volume adjustments and small EQ tweaks to suit a venue.

Sending the guitar out the efx loop that digitizes the signal to the Enigmatic could in my experience remove interaction between pickups and whatever is after it. But what do I know? I’m a bit anal-log, I use carbon batteries instead of alkaline in my fuzz pedal… The more the guitar stays analog before hitting the Enigmatic the better. I don’t know if the Fractal is digital out the loop, I know the Helix is . I can feel the difference or maybe it’s confirmation bias and I’m an old fart that’s been playing 55 years…. I’ve had the Enigmatic a few days and already the Helix, Kemper, Tonex and all other UAFX models pale in comparison.

@trebleboost7Ай бұрын
Yeah but I am guessing he needed to tap into Vox and Marshall and Fender etc. tones in this context using the FM9 for those characters. That is kind of my issue with the Dumble sound - it seems dialed for a certain kind of setlist. I really want to try the OS module for my Synergy system but I seldom have a set that would just use that tone. My Syn30 only has space for one module and a very disappointing clean channel so I use my Morgan, Friedman, and now Dr. Z more effectively in the module slot.

@@trebleboost7 In your use case probably easiest to just use a dumble style drive pedal for when you want that sound like a j rockett dude. If I'm running a modeler, I just use the one in the modeler. I've seen people using our system before but have no personal experience of it.
