Hey John, this is really cool! Thanks for your help with the preset, was happy with the way it sounded/felt in the end. The idea with the slap back is that it just "sits" under the reverb and is really there to make it feel more lively under the fingers. Compressor after amps is just how I do things in the studio - I don't really use one live for this kind of tone. The true stereo thing is really cool, wish I'd managed to keep that in the final preset!

Challen!!! Yeh I think actually all I should have done was just move the reverb behind the Cab, then you get the stereo thing happening?! Sick playing chap

Please do a lesson on playing over these style changes, you are really nailing Charlies style here and it's extremely infectious!

Hey John, the progression for this is Gmaj7, F#alt, Bsus and then a Bmaj9/Eb (i.e. 1st inversion Bmaj9), righht? IV, III7alt, VIsus, VIMaj I think... . Are you treating the last chord like a regular Valt back to the G or just diatonic / B blues? I can pick out the alt lines to B sus but I'd love to hear your take on playing this! Killer take on CA's playing. BT on Patreon would be a bonus!

I grabbed a Carl Martin Andy Timmons Sig compressor pedal this week and it's my favorite compressor so far.

This was useful as I tend to dial in tones like Charlie Sheen

Man I've been trying to get close to his tone for so long. Any suggestions for if you are just using a Fender Blackface? I do have a Headstrong (bought before I knew about him). I love snap/dirt he gets from the articulation on the high notes.

Push the amp if you can, you want some squish either from the amp or a light drive. A slap-back works as a thickener and can help you dial the amp in a little brighter so you get that snap. Hope that helps.

10:20 when you change the volume of the amps or cabinets, you're altering and possibly ruining the tonal quality he's going for (and I definitely prefer his original; It's not spiky). Another way of getting the sound closer to the centre without going mono would be to play around with just the panning, e.g. L30 R100 on the cabs or amps, or maybe having the amps in the center, then panning the cabs?

Yes - it doesn't make too much sense to have the Amps panned if the Cab blocks are both fully in the centre? The main thing I was trying to get back was the stereo-ness of the Reverb (all legacy Reverbs are stereo).

One other option would be to just stick the Reverb the other side of the Cab block?

@@johnnathancordy I don't think I knew they where all stereo! Is that also true of the other legacy fx categories? Stereo distortion effects are sometimes relevant...

LPs do jazz better than rock IMO 🤷

I sort of agree, but my counter argument is that as long as they're dialled in clean to only slightly dirty, I think they sound equally good on both. It's heaps of overdrive, fuzz and distortion that makes a good LP sound bad, and I think a lot of famous recordings use waaay less dirt than we think we hear.
