Greatful for the few clips I can find of him. This is my grandad, didnt get to spend any time with him aside from a newborn, looking back at these helps me feel some type of connection to him.

Hello, your grandfather was a great man and more people need to know more of who he truly was and the importance of him and his music. I will send you clips I have.
@lixy71998 ай бұрын
Hey love, I just wanted to jump on and say, ya know, I saw your Grandadad about 25 years ago, in Sydney Australia. I didn't realise how significant he was, but I tell you, had a fun night from that point of view. What that means to you, well, nothing really. You only saw him as a baby, and my true reality of that night was that I had to carry my drunken mother out of a crowded pub and etc etc etc. But before that, your Grandad blew my mind!! Families are far fetched sometimes, hey?!!
@beavermartin75118 ай бұрын
Apparently your Grandfather taught Bob Wier of the Grateful Dead how to play rock and roll when he played with the band Rat Dog in the 90s. Very cool.
@chrisdavid76863 ай бұрын
Your grandfather has greatly influenced my own piano style. Folks have told me he is the grandfather of rock & roll piano, meaning that he invented it. My understanding is your grandfather had the influence of ragtime before him, but he was the first who figured out how to mesh piano with the new rock & roll sound that came about in his time. I listen to this single performance and want study it. He was amazing.

Vastly underrated at the time, but now justly recognised as an all-time great. Without Johnnie, Chuck Berry would never have got started. In the early days the two of them were musically joined at the hip and between them they produced some of the greatest recordings in the history of popular music.

Without Johnny Johnson, Chuck Berry may not have made it. Maybe. Johnny's the unsung hero of Chuck's second gen Rock 'n Roll. Johnny boosted Chuck up into the throne, the King of Rock 'n Roll. Building on first gen Rock... Teddy Bunn, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Goree Carter, Tiny Webb, Gatemouth Brown, Bill Jennings, T-Bone Walker and many more... Chuck strategically targeted his Rock attack on Jim Crow and led the integration of audiences when lynching was incalculably commonplace. And Johnny was the patient, solid, always reliable-when-sober backup man. Together they created rowdy, rebellious masterpieces. And Chuck was the genius vernacular poet and composer with the instigating stage presence; he made Little Richard jealous and maddened Jerry Lee Lewis' racism. Johnny and Chuck each had their demons, Chuck passive-aggressively changing key to confuse, show up, and embarrass his band, but Johnny hung in there and the higher consciousness and joy they gave the world are timeless. And still broadcasting in outer space, I believe literally. If not, figuratively. But surely. -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
