I remember seeing this as a young boy and thought 'What an amazing individual! Creative, full of mirth, and not afraid to tweak the conventionality of the time!'

Quietly Philip (now Pippa and a woman) profoundly influenced the art and cultural landscape in Los Angeles in the seventies and eighties. He and his then wife Nancy Reese, a brilliant gifted painter and writer were at the epicenter of everything interesting happening in Los Angeles at the time. I met Phil ne Pippa when we were both students at Art Center College and we've been friends since 1967. Kyle's comments below are spot on. Pippa is one of the most courageous, honest and brilliant people

My parents were good friends with (then) Philip and Nancy. Nancy sold my parents a huge amazing painting of hers to my parents.

If it weren't for people like Pippa Garner, the world would be a place where even the more creative of us are just basically recycling the same old boring ideas over and over again. Sometimes the world just needs to be turned on its head. It takes a lot of courage and vision to live with that kind of artistic integrity and eccentricity regardless of what those whose minds are closed might think.

Pippa is an amazing person, unafraid, creative and original. When she lived in Mill Valley she created incredible personal variations of the bike and would use them for local transportation. We lost an original mind when she moved out of state. I'd welcome her back anytime. I hope Pippa is well and happy.

Im originally from nyc. My family and extended family was very into art, music, and fashion. Im wondering why i never heerd of Phillip/Pippa before. My dad was an auto mechanic and auto body worker. The backwards car shouldve been something we were told of. I really like this artwork.

The Whitney Museum has a small collection of her work on the third floor. That’s how I discovered her.
