This man is tops! Right after he sang " A Boy Named Sue" and made it a hit, I wrote Mr. Cash and gave him a song that I wrote called, " A Girl Named John ". Six months later, I received a hand written personal letter ( in black felt tipped pen). He told me that before he got my song, someone had written another song in response to his Boy Named Sue. He told me to keep on writing songs! He gave me a personal address to send my songs to so he could get it right away. I still have that letter! I will cherish it forever. I got married and went on a different career, but music stayed in my life. He was the greatest! Friend David!

The duet with June is just stunningly beautiful. They were meant for each other.
@brianhelle7064 Жыл бұрын
They’re relationship almost didn’t happen. Johnny was on drugs & June was about to call it quits on the tour. Then it took Johnnys band, June and the rest of the road gang to break Johnnys habit of the drugs & that’s why in the song of the Statler Brothers “paid by cash” the line they were there when John remembered God was on his side. It took God & the road gang to bring Johnny through his hard times with his drug addiction. Yes it’s in the movie “walk the line - with Reese Witherspoon & Jaquan Phoenix [Good Movie] but it’s true that they’re relationship almost never happened. I’m glad it did & yes they were meant for each other. Johnny loved June when he was a young boy also

Before I was licensed to drive, for several years I helped mow, rake, and bale the hay on his Bon Aqua property. One day a small black Mercedes came up the driveway to the log home where I knew the exterior but only the interior from the Johnny Cash and Glenn Campbell Christmas show. As I pulled the tractor and rake through the gate near the home, for the only time in my life... I saw Mr. Cash. I listened to him for hours on 8 track in my room, made from a car stereo and speakers with a voltage converter... There he was dressed in black, in what must have been around a hundred degrees, me in my farmer's tan, no shirt, co-op hat, and jeans... as I latched the gate I looked over at him. He was hoeing weeds 4 feet tall in this 4x8 garden spot marked by a small timber, so the lawn team wouldn't mow it. I thought to myself, if this man has escaped the world for the pleasure of my worst nightmare, then I won't be a pesty fan and bother him!!! I waved, he waved back. We were the only people on earth at that moment. Waving was a thing we did to everyone on our 5 mile stretch of road back then because we knew each other, he was only a mile outside that range. I had no idea what to say. I did not realize at the time what a unique life I had. If I had it to do over, I'd go up and speak to him and let him interrogate me and let him find the peace that he was looking for in the life that I was living at that moment in time.

Daniela you said it the best. His voice touches the soul and his clear, rich baritone voice can send chills through you. One other singer does this to me when he sings gospel and that is Elvis. That is when one realizes just how great he is.

I well remember seeing Johnny Cash in Saskatoon a number of years ago. Talk about a dynamic musician, You had one right there. The way he greeted the audience when he walked onto the stage, was like a bolt of lightning, as it electrified the crowd and a thunderous round of applause greeted the one and only Johnny Cash.
