The snare is a Yamaha Copper Nouveau, 14x5.5", about 2 years old. I have an Evans Genera Dry head on top and a Remo snare side Ambassador on bottom. Fat Cat snare wires. For this recording, I had a Shure Beta 52 on the kick, SM57 on the snare, and a Zoom h4n overhead.

Thanks! My goal is to help people learn these songs, especially visual learners. For this one, I do play it way more modern than the original recording, but it works very well in a band setting. Take care.

Thanks Gabe! I'd love to do a collaboration. This video is 7 years old and my recording equipment is much better now, so I would rather just redo the drum part and make a new one. Send me an email and we can work it out. redeyeperc@gmail.com

@RedeyePerc10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I have sheet music for most of my covers on my website - www.redeyepercussion.com, but not for this one. Since there is no drumming on the original song, I make this one up as I go along.

Who was Cashs drummer during the 50s and early 60s.
@RedeyePerc8 жыл бұрын
W.S. Holland started playing with him in 1960. I don't think there was any regular drummer before that. The original version of this song doesn't sound like it has any drums on it, or else they are really buried in the final version.
@lochlainnferguson32227 жыл бұрын
FUN FACT! before Holland, there was no drummer in the early days, the back l;ine was only played by the double bass and the snare sounds was made by cash slapping a note on the side of his pants
@rydergrimes66966 жыл бұрын
Lochlainn Ferguson and cash sometimes used a card in his guitar and it made a drum sound
@JeromyBranch5 жыл бұрын
@@rydergrimes6696 He folded a dollar bill between the 1st and 2nd strings and made the snare sound with the strings by strumming them on the beat. His old Martin that he used for many recordings is still sitting in Sun records studio exactly where he left it, and it still has the dollar bill in the strings. Go see it...it's awesome!
@reeceblinman74694 жыл бұрын
Redeye Percussion W.S Holland started with Carl Perkins, he played on The Million Dollar Quartet and Blue Suede Shoes and etc. Johnny Cash didn’t have drums until 1960, Cash used a dollar bill in his guitar strings.

Fantastic, your right it's not a hard beat to play but it's all about feel and you nailed it. I am looking to record a few of me playing covers like this. I see where you say your using 3 mics but how did you record the sound? Is it through a mixer and then into your camera or did you record separately and then match the sound to the video? I have a zoom q3 but n there is no input jack on it so thinking of getting a different camera for this type thing
@RedeyePerc10 жыл бұрын
I use the Zoom h4n for audio recording. The unit is above me to get an overhead blend with the on-board mics, then I mic my snare and kick and run those lines into the Zoom. Everything ends up in sync. I then line it up manually with the video part after discarding the camera audio. Zoom had the new h6 out, which I plan on getting soon. Let me know if you have any other questions.
