I'll never forget meeting Johnny Cash. It was at the Houston Collesium. I went back stage and asked someone how I could meet him. He told me to stand in a certain place against the wall and when Johnny came out that backstage door, I would be the first one he would greet. Sure enough he came out with the warmest grin I had ever seen, walked right up to me, shook my hand and said "how you doin' fella?" Johnny Cash was a great man.

I met my wife 43 yrs ago. I knew she was different. We had been dating about 2 weeks. She had an ex coming into town and they went to dinner. I was hurt that she kept this date. I planned to not call her again. If I had it would have been a terrible mistake. I called her the next day and we went out. We were married 7 months later. Such an incredible life we have had together. I still love someone.

This song reminds me of my childhood and in particular my Grandparents and growing up in Kokoda, Papua New Guinea. They raised me on a small plantation where they grew cocoa and coffee. My grandfather was a veteran and tended to his plantation with much love and dedication aided by his wife my Grandmother. After a days hard work they would sit and put on music like this on their record player and have sweet black tea and watch the sun set together. I would be busy playing near them and waiting for the evening meal. They were wonderful times.

Johnny's nephew Roy wrote a poem for a college class, showed it to Johnny. It was the "B" side of DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN, nothing much expected from it. On a country music discussion group we assembled over 50 'covers' of it. Other than the almost countless versions of Johnny doing it, hunt Bob Luman's haunting recitation.
