Have you ever listened to the words of "The Man In Black"? I've heard it maybe only a few times in my life, but the other night I listened to the words & WOW! His wearing of black wasn't for the purpose of being down n all; it was a commemorative kind of thing...in honor of.... well, go listen & or read it! :D

You know he sings about things that he doesn’t actually know about but this is something he actually I believe knows about first hand. Only because I’m familiar with most every lyric he’s speaking of this one may not be as catchy as Folsom prison. Rip Jonny ca$h and defiantly appreciate my 4 years of sobriety.

Lord, you are our deliverer. We can do anything through Christ who strengthens us…but, we must take the first step. We must realize we have a problem and a need… and we must ask for help. I ask Lord, that you will give each person the courage to face up to their problems and to have a strong desire to change. We ask that you will remove all outside influences that hinder them from coming clean and who perpetuate their addictions. We ask in Jesus’ name, that you will bind the enemy and that you will put your angels about each person to protect them tonight from themselves and from the things that keep dragging them down. Amen Brother, we are praying for you

@@JohnNeal-l7k thanks mate. I too had been an addict for a long time like yourself, about 22 years. It's the whole thing of learning to live a whole different life/lifestyle again that's really hard . The actual detox is easy in comparison to that isn't it. And needing to leave old friends behind too is heartbreaking. I'm now about 10 years clean but about only 5 years if you include methadone. Again much love to you and I wish you the best of lives too as anyone who was addicted for as long as you and then managed to kick it well deserves it! 👍 x

When I found the right antidepressant I was able stop drinking. Don't ever give up. Don't run from God let your addiction be a catalyst that pushes you closer to God. Your desperation -use it... drown yourself in the word RENEW YOUR MIND. Become so full of God that you gain the strength to overcome anything that is not of God. JUST NEVER GIVE UP! My sentiments exactly - cryin right now reading through more of them. I have never been addicted to narcotics, but I have my own struggles, and they are just as real. I watched firsthand while my precious baby boy [36 now] fought to break free of Meth addiction. I may as well have been addicted to it as I died every time I had to see him slip and detox and try again over and over. His pain was felt deeply in this mama's heart. That demon gets inside the brain and literally claws and rips and screams inside until you essentially have no choice but to pick up and use again. I understand. I just wish others did too. I get so sick of hearing those who say so many negative, unhelpful, and really, destructive things to the addict who really just longs to be free! God bless every single individual who has to fight these demons [drugs or otherwise] and give you [us] strength to move forward another hour, another day, until freedom is secured!

I found out that I didn't have as many friends as I thought after I got clean I just had a lot of drug buddies but I'd do anything to help them get straight that I can... I'm working on 7 years clean now and God has blessed me with many things but most of all a great relationship with loved ones and 3 grandsons.. Life is great now... Remember the Creator loves you deeply, even though our fellow man may kill, lie, steal and cheat. You are a valuable person. Every moment in life is precious, treat it like it's your last drop of water. Life changes rapidly every second and hurls rocks at you, but you will be able to get back up, even if you couldn't dodge them. Mankind is both a beautiful, fragile, yet treacherous creation. Mankind is beautiful because everyday someone is born, someone is enjoying life, but we close our hearts to eachother, we can lust after many things. But if we clear our blocked path, blocked by greed, we will be able to slowly and painstakingly, yet amazingly walk anywhere we please. If one has had a hard life, it isn't over, in this life, or the next, the Creator will reward you. Because of this never give up on your dream, dreams are memories that are yet to be remembered. God bless you, and I will keep you in my prayers! 🙏

The best thing about Johnny is that no matter what, he stood in what he believed in. @L They likely come from those with no understanding whatsoever about what addiction truly is - a disease, no different than any other disease. People need to be educated about addiction and stop associating it with socioeconomic status, race, or thinking it is a matter of "willpower" or a weakness of character or the many other things people commonly associate with addiction.

"I don't feel normal anymore unless I'm high or doped up on something." Because you`re body especially the brain got used to it. Try to find out what let you take it in the first place. Is there a pain you want to cover? What could bring you joy or make you happy besides getting high? Have you done some sports in the past? The truth is: real life won`t bring you the same distilled enjoyment but it can be beautiful! Hope you`re doing good!

I play this video every so often to remind me when I get tempted to use that it simply isn't worth it. 5 years and counting since I put away the pills. I ate prescription pain killers and speeders like they were PEZ candy for MANY years, then would need a ton of downers to bring me down after flying high without sleep for days at a time. I'm lucky to even be alive and still have some of my intellect remaining intact after what I put my body through. The world needs more men like Johnny Cash in the spotlight today speaking out about the unimaginable cycle of horror so many of us were or are trapped in. There is a way out... it isn't easy, but there is hope!! There are people out there who care and know what you are going through to help you obtain that seemingly unattainable ticket to freedom.

If you see someone struggling from addiction please reach out. It's the worst war in which we fight with. It's worse than any nuclear wars you hear abt on the news. Find faith in God and pray everyday for strength. NEVER GIVE UP even if you relapse.. drug addiction has no cure no matter how many years clean you always risk that one chance of falling into temptation. I never thought I'd touch a needle again after years of sobriety and I had one moment of bad judgement bc I was drunk and I'm back at Rock bottom. But God forgives all sin if you repent. Trust in God and always believe in yourself. To all recovering addicts- NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU RELAPSE YOU ARE NOT A PIECE OF SHIT. As an alcoholic who spends too much of his free time pounding down beers, I definitely relate to this song. Johnny may have been talking about other substances, but alcohol can cause just as much pain; when the hangover inevitably hits after a multi-day binge, the recovery period can leave you practically non-functional.

Judy Carlock This post is full, so I am replying here because its the only place! I just wanted to say that most people on here that use the name of God are Christians. I am a Christian, worked as a drug counselor at a methadone clinic 1st job out of college. Now I am detoxing the 9th time off methadone! When you know the drug scene on the streets, reality, you don't turn to Buddah or Allah. No, Jesus understands and heals, and forgives.

it is not that your love wasn't enough. the pull and sickness of chemicals or alcohol is so painful to go against, no amount of love can keep you from your master when you feel that sick. ya have to be so done with it, before it kills you or it wins. and it's got nothing to do with how strong someone is either... I'm sure he loved you more than he coukd ever love anything in the world. it's a sickness, not much different from other illnesses. it doesn't take away the love they have for their family ect. usually it's a lack of love for themselves..

Thank you for this song for I’ve felt the horror that comes after the thrill. I served two tours of duty in combat when I was in the Marine Core back in 03 when the shit had just hit the fan. I was a 50 caliber machine gunner on the front gun truck of Regimental combat team 7 along with RCT 5 and I did not keep count of nothing for there were many. I just followed orders and God brought me back home to my wife and little girl. When I returned from combat the Dr put me on Xanax’s and Valium’s both many of them and I stayed on them form that point in my life and also for the next 16 years. I would take them to try and just drown out the pain and sorrow I felt but over the years my tolerance got to be so much and I couldn’t ever get enough of them. After my 3rd overdose and I woke up 14 days later and came off the ventilator and was re trained how to walk again. Johnny the Lord God Almighty got ahold of me and he’s not let go of me till this day at this moment and I was blind but now I see and Gods power can help anyone overcome any drug or any hold that satan has on a man, even a die hard Marine like myself. Glory to God Almighty our creator and master. One more thing Johnny, the devil is very powerful and sneaky but he’s just a big ol pussy!!! Get behind me satan!!!! I no longer belong to you.

Hang in there, my dear. What our job is now, is to make sure that we are there for anyone who may need us. Ya know? What I do is I find a piece of music that fits to a specific person , and the troubles that they are facing at the time that I come into their life, and it is the most incredible and rewarding experience to be able to present someone with a song that is so perfect and so powerful for them that they cry their eyes out because it touches their soul. Along with being able to give someone my attention so that they can unleash all the burdens and pain , that is what we must do for our other fellow ( soldiers of addiction) Anyways, check out these couple songs(both Ben Harper songs) and get back to me and let me know what you thought and if you are needing to talk to anyone (anytime please dont hesitate , ok? ) R.I.P to Ryan ..... I lost a couple of friends. I never did street drugs or was addicted to pain meds. But I knew people who were. I don't want anyone to die. I want them to live. Thank goodness for celebrities who do good things for people, because there are so many that want people to sin and do things that hurt themselves and others. I was only 10years old when my father and I walked into a local gas station to get supplies for a fishing trip when a long black black bus pulled up and who other than mr cash walked in. My father while holding my hand was completely froze and began sobbing as he once struggled with drugs. Mr. Cash i vividly remember without hesitation hugged my father without uttering a word and said its going to be alright. I was lonly 10 years old and remember it so vividly. Mr cash was so kind and spoke with us about 20 minutes. My father ran a fishing charter business on the island on the east coast and my father and I took me cash fishing free of charge but at the end of the trip he presented my father with a check for 10,000 dollars even though the trip only cost $200. I went fishing with Johnny cash and mu father for 4 hours and it was the best 4 hours of my life. Nothing was said about his game or music we just talked about life and Johnny spoke about the lord Jesus Christ wich got me saved. This was in the summer of 1985. Thank your mr cash and God speed.
