I do think we have a huge problem in society where we have psychologists wanting to jump very quickly to giving people a label of a mental illness, by looking at statistics and not the person as a whole. I find this Dr to be very unprofessional and I hope the jury takes very little what he said into account.

Absolutely. The sociology of health/illness is 🤯 Thomas Szasz, especially; and R. D. Lang may be essential touchstones for the concerned
@nawawii37502 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's one of the reasons the percentage of people with mental or psychology illness is rising. Doctors are eager to frame people with mental illness, and people are getting more and more accepting this framing. Especially narcissism.. this individual trait have been over used, and over abused by doctors and society alike. It's never as bad as people think, because there's a healthy level of narcissism required in every person to have self esteem. Then there's balanced level, then there's high risk level, and finally there's abusive level. People don't understand that, and they just throw narcissism in face of most normal human on earth. If you want to judge how abusive narcissism actually is, just look at Amber Heard. She cut the finger of her husband, she admitted it, in a video tape that's available online, and yet she's spending thousands of dollars a day on fake experts trying so hard to convince jury that JD cut his own finger!!!! That's it for you. Now let's hope world stop framing every person who seek some encouragement from his spouse as narcissist.. there's a massive difference

I was wondering how Dr. Spiegel's treats his patients, so I checked his ratings and reviews. Those published before his testimony are a mixed bag, but it's worrying 45% of his patients gave him one star out of five. There were only two reviews, and they were quite scathing: "Dr Speigle killed my step father. My step father was suicidal. He was an alcoholic as well. He had been a patient of Dr Speiegle for years with medication thrown at him. After rehab he never followed up or returned our calls. We called stating he was locked in a room suicidal and he never called us back. When he finally did and said he would follow up and never did. My step dad is dead. Speigle does bare minimum treatment to push meds and then doesn’t care if you die or not." "Horrible and inconsiderate of patient well-being. He took 3 days to get back to me only to tell me that he wasn't going to be filling my prescriptions and to find another doctor, after my provider in his practice left abruptly and no one was left to take her place. He turned his back on me knowing I was out of my medication and I was given the option to just "go to the ER" if I started to feel any worse. I will tell EVERYONE how poorly I was treated by the doctors at EVMS Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences."

He was unable to apply for membership with the American Medical Association for a reason. And if there's anyone wondering why, just one look at this and you can see he's a bit... unethical. The Golden Rule constitutes that no Professional in his Field may make an undue assessment of someone's mental health (i.e diagnose them) without direct one-to-one professional sessions, otherwise it is unprofessional and unethical. You can't make Diagnoses of someone without personal interactions with them--which is why most Psychiatric professionals withhold judgment until thorough analysis of their patient. In this, he was acting like a Forensics Psychiatrist which is a totally different field of expertise, which he affirmed he is NOT one. This guy barely scraped by because he DID get caught out for being unethical, as all of his testimony and diagnosis was based on what he has been told by Amber's team. Basic risks to audditors' independence (it is similar in all professional fields): 1. Self review (check your own work so you assume it is right i.e. you are biased) 2. Self interest - You are paid too much or have too much to gain from the outcome 3. Advocacy - You start advocating for a party rather than staying imaprtial and stating facts. 4. Familiarity - You get too cozy with the client, so you may be inherently more willign to accept them at their word. 5. Intimidation - Obvious threat to a person's independence. (e.g. Waking up to a turd in yor bed one morning) How many of these did our fellow "expert" breach? Self interest pushing his job and getting exposure, geting paid way too much for the work. This lawyer is awesome, his entire job this trial has been one and one thing only, dismantle the opposing 'expert witness'. He does this by a combination of strategy and natural born characteristics/demeanor. He just comes at these highly qualified, rich as hell, multiple degree people with a boorish, clunky, simple man attitude, he's like this big tall dude with a deep voice who has this effect that comes off as "Hey I'm dumb please educate me on this, I mean no harm just asking questions" but then just when you get lured into his trap, he Socratic Methods you into oblivion to the point where within 3 minutes you're trying to defend your entire existence in your field.

He does NOT represent all of us, most of us, and certainly NOT those of us who adhere to the strict guidelines of our profession regarding diagnosing and imparting professional opinions. But if I wanted to act like him, I could say that he is exhibiting signs of disinhibition, some grossly disorganized behavior, circumstantial thought process, psychomotor agitation-and very prominent frontal release signs-all of which are concerning for a possible early fronto-temporal dementia (pick’s disease) or maybe due to a substance, including those prescribed. BUT I WOULD NEVER PROVIDE THAT AS TESTIMONY OR AS MT PROFESSIONAL OPINION. It is an observation based on limited data and very little can be concluded on my observation unless the person is examined.
