I'm not even a fan of Depp's acting work (I probably have NOT enjoyed more movies he's been in than I have enjoyed movies he's been in) and he absolutely MADE those films into the blockbusters they were and he was the sole draw for a lot of people once the sequels got crappy. It's rare that a single actor can completely elevate rather lackluster source material into something great simply by their presence, but I'll be damned if he didn't spin straw into gold with Pirates.
