Really great version of the Magnetic Fields song and really beautifully nuanced, facial exchange between Johnny and the lady featured in the video.Johnny is some mean finger picker on the guitar.Just love this.❤

Huh, I always thought Johnny Flynn came from a country town in England and was classically trained on piano and violin until his mom got him an album by Bob Dylan and that was it

And funnily enough, Stephin Merritt (the original writer and singer of this song) was a student at NYU, so...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let’s say, born in ‘65 SM is at NYU in the mid to late 80s. Briefly. He doesn’t graduate. 69 Love Songs is released in 1999. When Merritt is in his mid 30s. He’s a gay man. Say what you will about his looks, he’s not the underwear model this guy is. Now, frankly, his performance on the guitar in this scene is fine. Just fine. But wouldn’t it be more than a bit odd if you ,a young and amorous woman, were to hear the initial line, “I like your twisted point of view, Mike”? Even if you didn’t know this song and that it was penned and performed by a gay man you might think, “Is he gay? Because he just made sly romantic references to someone named Mike.” I don’t know the context of this scene or this show. So maybe there’s a reason this comes across as incredibly clumsy. Could be simply that the Writer or Director really like the song. It’s a fantastic song. And the W or D really wanted to use the song in a piece of work he/she produced. It’s just that this scene seems uncomfortably clumsy if you know this song. Particularly since it immediately skips the chorus. Just a very odd choice and one I don’t especially care for.

Terrible take on a great cover of the song. An amazing folk artist from England doing a phenomenal cover of a fantastic group from the US. Just enjoy the beauty of the song and voice. No need to down talk somebody who could outperform you in anything you’d dream of doing.

In light of the original piece this seems dreadful. It makes no sense.
