61 year old white man here who grew up in a mixed family so I had grown up on Motown and Classic Rock and heard a lot of country as well. My first exposure to JGW was from my oldest sisters friends husband who got stuck baby sitting me and his daughter when I was about 13 when we both got the Chicken Pox. Listen to "Ain't That A Bitch." and the lyrics still mean the same today like this one.

Johnny “guitar” Watson was a mentor to Etta James. Love the way he remade himself with synths and funk.

Yeah if you listen Johnny's early music you can hear the influence he had on Etta James. Although Johnny's main instrument was guitar he was a multi-instrumentalist, he was also a damn good pianist.
