You should watch "Johnny Hallyday : Beyond Rock" on netflix, it's a 5 part documentary about his life. Trully amazing, it helps understanding who he was and how important he was for French people. A true rockstar. It's amusing how much he was liked by american artists who knew him even if american citizens didn't. Mickey Rourke, Tom Hanks, Lenny Kravitz, Pierce Brosnan, Naomi Campbell, Lionel Richie, etc etc. Mickey Rourke was in the crowd of this performance by the way, it was at the Eiffel Tower in front of 1 million person.

It's funny that you call him "Uncle Johnny, reminds me of my uncle" because in France this guy was THE most popular singer for more than 55 years so much that he was like part of the family of all the french LOL, like an uncle. When he died in 2017 it was a shock and his funerals was a national event watched by 15 millions people on TV. Several streets in Paris, full of people, including the Champs Elysees, were blocked to let the convoy pass with the hearse followed by thousands of motorcyclists.

This free concert was held at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in 2000. Sometimes in Paris, for REALLY BIG events, there have been, on rare occasions, up to almost 2 millions attendants!!! This one, between 5 an 700,000 people only!... Johnny was as much (if not more) The BOSS of French popular music as Bruce Springsteen is to the USA.

This is the first I see english somebody speaking well about him. I'am french 69 years old. From the time I was something like 8 of 9 I hear him singing. His big dream was to have succes in English speaking contries specely usa. Never succeed. He was surch as show men.

There is a movie call ‘ Jean Philippe ‘ with Johnny. It’s a story about a 50 old man and a die hard fan of him. He has all of is album and all kinds of stuff in is bedroom. One day after he gets hit in the head, he wakes up and finds out that Johnny Halliday does not exist anymore. He then start to search for him and finds him working in a restaurant. He starts changing him , clothes, hair, moves, and singing. So he can be the superstar he is suppose to be. Great story and caring by Johnny . The climax ( concert ) is Fantastic. Note: Jean Philippe SMET , is Johnny Halliday real name.
