I agree if like me you were in your early 20's as I was. No mortgage and bills. Perhaps it wouldn't be the same for older people with their nose to the grindstone paying bills. Mortgage rates were higher in Britain and there was high unemployment but at 23 years of age it was a fantastic year . I remember this song in the charts like it was yesterday.

Not only are the lyrics brilliant, the bass line superb, but Clark Datchler just nails that vocal. There are very few singers out there that can get away with that falsetto and keep a lower voice like that without one or the other being a somewhat fake or forced sound. That's just an incredible vocal.

"Shattered Dreams" So much for your promises They died the day you let me go Caught up in a web of lies But it was just too late to know I thought it was you Who would stand by my side And now you've given me, given me Nothing but shattered dreams, shattered dreams Feel like I could run away, run away From this empty heart You said you'd die for me Woke up to reality And found the future not so bright I dreamt the impossible That maybe things could work out right I thought it was you Who would do me no wrong And now you've given me, given me Nothing but shattered dreams, shattered dreams Feel like I could run away, run away From this empty heart You've given me, given me Nothing but shattered dreams, shattered dreams Feel like I could run away, run away From this empty heart From this empty heart I thought it was you Who said they'd die for love And now you've given me, given me Nothing but shattered dreams, shattered dreams Feel like I could run away, run away From this empty heart You've given me, given me Nothing but shattered dreams, shattered dreams Feel like I could run away, run away From this empty heart Oh, no, no, no You said you'd die for me Oh, for Die for me So much for your promises So much for your promises

The 70s/80s seem magical in retrospect, but at the time I did not realize it. As wonderful as technology is today - I am glad I experienced a time when social media and instant access did not exist. I do not think I could have withstood the pressure of it when I was young. There are wonderful artists and music today.... enjoy your youth while you have it... it goes by so quickly. I like being older, too... it definitely has its advantages!

Guys, I was 12 & I still recall this song waking me up (on the radio) on the last day of 7th grade & singing it the whole way to school knowing one of the cutest girls had a crush on me. She asked me to be her boyfriend that day. One of the best days of my life & I still remember waking to this amazing song & how young, strong, handsome & filled with life I felt when looking in the mirror that morning (June of 1988).

All those cool drums you hear - all drum machines. All sequenced to a click track then recorded to tape and ran through an opto compressor and paramentric eq then ran back to tape then through a compressor to gate the snare and mixed with a reverse snare or cymbal sample then ran through digital plate reverb. All those keyboard parts, sequenced to a click track then recorded to tape and ran through an opto compressor and parametric eq then ran back to tape then through a reverb. All those basslines? You guessed it. Sequenced, and recorded to tape then through a compressor and eq then through a reverb.
