So we got some info on Johnny last night for Guilty Gear Strive, so lets break it all down! the classic core of Johnny I feel remains, although the new card mechanic is the heart of what he is in GGST. I feel its a strong refresh on the character as everyone changes up in strive, yet still allows for the same "feel". Also, funnily enough he's listed as a zoner on the website but after seeing his ability to control the screen... maybe he isn't throwing fireballs or nothing but Zoner also does not feel wrong!

@@jmarx3943 5P hits crouch, reduced recovery on Potemkin buster, flick now combos from 6K on standing opponents. Pretty great stuff. Some of it might be inaccurate as they don't have a way to record the exact frames

I mean, people are crying blood about Bacchus Sign and Zweihander being gone, because of course they are, even though Pole Vault effectively replaces it, but he looks fine to me, and Glitter Is Gold and Treasure Hunt being gone is going to make him easier to play and a lot less intimidating to pick up for newcomers. And personally, I ain’t gonna miss dealing with those Mist Unblockables when I’m fighting him! LOL! Nice to know that Liam O’Brien is also going to return as his English VA from SIGN, and is going to get to voice him fully this time, since he’s finally playable again!

@@CrowFGC they used joker trick on sol twice and it was the same card both times. there was also an IGN interview from evo where they mentioned that johnny has something that differs from character to character. I really doubt it's random

Not long before you uploaded this video, people are deducing patch notes from a playable Johnny build at some European major going on right now. Most of what I see are nerfs, which one of my friends is dooming hard about, but so far I'm excited by what I see. Burst-safe routes (without blocking) may be gone, for instance, which means you can safely burst Happy Chaos gunshot juggle combos. Leo's H DP is no longer strike invulnerable, which means that if he's right on defense, he gets less reward by using the invuln of S DP. Things like that. Then again, since this is all deduced by fans, they're more likely to report back with nerfs they're upset about than minor buffs they don't fully understand yet.

Where could I find info on all the season 3 changes people are reporting? Also if you don't mind I have 2 questions, 1st was sol buffed or nerfed? 2nd do you already know the last 2 characters that are getting new moves?

​@gaetanopetrella2700 I dont play Sol so I wasnt paying too much attention to his changes, but I heard 6S got nerfed again. As for the new moves, Ino got a mid gaurdcrush, Giovanna got a new move, and actually Zato got a new Break the law follow-up that's like Traversing is +R

More nerfs than buffs? That would actually be a dream come true. I have always been partial to that system. It seemed like with every patch, this game was getting closer and closer to being a single-player game, even with the changes to defensive mechanics. The new wild assault didn't help my perception of that either. If it is true that they are finally starting to target specific individuals instead of changing the entire game because of a few overtuned individuals (ex: release Sol. F.S prompting the boost in pushback from FD, Chipp, Nago, and co. prompting the meter gain for the defender at max RISC, HC, Ram, May, and Nago prompting a buff to burst range, etc.), that is actually good news to me.

I never got xrd but Johnny tempted me to multiple times, I’m glad he’s coming to strive but it’s unfortunate he’s losing some stuff like coins and a silly unblockable that I won’t be able to use without buying another game. Overall though as long as he can do an edgy ass anime teleport out of mist finer to dodge and then punish moves I’m happy. (Also the new Thats my name is probably one of the top 3 coolest supers if not the coolest)

I think Johnny is a pretty successful rework, even with leveling up mist finer gone I can't see too many people being mad. Only thing I'm disappointed by is the lack of treasure hunt (a really cute super for character and worldbuilding)... also I feel like he plays a bit TOO similar to Testament in this game? Both characters have long ranged normals and mixups, focusing on detonating a setplay second hit to keep the opponent blocking/juggle them up for a combo, I'm not crazy,, right???

Johnnys old mechanic simply wouldn’t have worked in strive they would’ve had to rework parts of the game to make him balanced and make new mechanics to make him even work not to mention he would be very hard to pick up and play for the average strive player albeit less so because there’s no need for character specific routing like previous games the way they reworked his kit for strive is actually pretty neat and his gimmick actually fits his character so I’m not too disappointed

@@FuzionOki Oh I'm well aware that Xrd Johnny wouldn't fit in Strive. I'm more so still just disappointed how gutted everyone in this game feels. Johnny was the gamblers gambler. He gambled his coins and his leveled up MF for amazing damage in return, but it was so easy to fuck it up and be left with no coins. That has always been his theme, and they simply changed what his theme was, and it's fine, but still disappointing. Just like how Slayer was the slippery vampire one punch man, they're gonna take out the slippery aspect of his kit, and put something else in. You could argue if it's better or not, that's fine, but it still feels like a lot of characters, Johnny included, lost a significant amount of their identity. Slayer without BDC or Johnny without his coins is like Ryu without Tatsu. Sure, there's this new move in place, but it feels wrong.
