It seems perfectly reasonable to me. Johnny has been training and teaching for years at this point, even learning new styles. Mike was a teenage beast and quit until recently. It's a fundamental principle of the martial arts: adapt or stagnate. If you think about it, it's a beautiful way to show just how far Johnny has come since season 1.

I think Daniel beating Silver make sense. For two reasons. Firstly, we've seen Daniel rise to the occasion on more than one occasion. When he's properly focused and can let out his "real" karate, he can defeat almost anyone at this given time. Secondly, Silver had just gone through a grueling fight to the death with Chosen. This must have taken a lot out of Silver, so this made him much more vulnerable to a "focused" Daniel. There did also seem to be a sub plot developing indicating that Silver wasn't well. We haven't seen that play out, not sure if we will in the remainder of season 6, but that could have also been a factor. 🤷

So while I agree Johnny has been keeping up with his training while Mike hasn't, another thing to consider it Mike put up a hell of a fight and started coming up on Johnny UNTIL Myagi-Do defense entered the fight, which even Johnny seemed surprised at its effectiveness. It is a show you are being to logical. For instance in the last episode of season 5, Johnny would lose easily to 5 karate masters who have been training there whole life under Kim Sun-Yung, but he won, which is very unreal. Also, in part 2 of season 6 miyagi do is probably going to some how win, even though they are versing people who have been doing karate for there whole life, and everyone in miyagi do only has like 2-3 years of experience.
@williamedward84775 ай бұрын
I agree that by the rules of 80s movies, the hierarchy when they were teenagers would have been: Mike > Chozen > Johnny However, there's a line that Kreese has in this season that indicates that Johnny may have been better than we realize. When he's talking to the Korean students, he references Johnny and said that he had what it took to be a national champion, but he ran into someone with more heart. I think it's also implied that Johnny may have been viewed as someone that could compete in the Sekai Taikai. So, it's possible that Johnny, being shaped by his life experiences, going through getting his life back on track, being a sensei, having relationships with his actual son and his karate son, having a good relationship with Carmen, and being a girl dad, he now has the heart that he was missing back in KK1. It's also possible, based on what Kreese was saying about Johnny (he also talked glowingly about him in earlier flashbacks as well) that Johnny may actually have more raw talent than Barnes, Chozen, or Daniel. This is to say nothing of the extra gear that Johnny found at the end of season 5, when he took on 5 of Kim Sun Yang's students mostly by himself (with the assist from Barnes at the end.) This was a feat that was so impressive, that Kreese even used it as evidence when speaking to Kim Sun Yang about how good of a sensei that Kreese was (his student took down 5 of Kim Sun Yang's students.) Also, of the people that we've seen take the pressure point stun move (Daniel, Kreese, and Johnny), Johnny was the only one that didn't panic. In fact, he tanked it, adapted his method, and still scored a point on Daniel. It's possible that with the exception of Kim Sun Yang (who the writers have said would be on the level of Miyagi), Johnny may be the best fighter on the show right now.

You don’t talk fast, your not goofy, and I agree with your topics especially who should have won certain fights. If you want the underdog to win the fight you should write it in the story to seem more believable like when Johnny was focusing on the photo of the ultrasound of his and Carmen child it gave Johnny more to fight back for his life. I hope they don’t make the fight with Kwon lame in the Sekai Tai Kai tournament. Kwon is definitely a bad ass. I always loved Cobra Kai. But two things I hope for in the final season. I hope they don’t rush the series to be over like they do with most great series. For example GOT Game of Thrones. It seems like at the end they all want to move on to that next project and hurry to finish up their latest project that put the writers and/ or creators on the map. The second thing is putting Hilary Swank as Julie Pierce and Chad McQueen back as Dutch. I think Dutch was the bad boy of the Cobra Kai gang

Great video! I would’ve like to see more of a drawn out training time of something like Johnny finishing learning Miyagi-Do from Chozen and having that be the reason he beat Barnes. That would require more episodes this season 😌. I think in the 80s all three are very talented, but Johnny wasn’t automatically willing to go as far as Chozen and Barnes. I think Chozen vs Barnes in the 80s would come down to game plan with Chozen’s defense and being willing to kill vs Barnes’ offense since fighting dirty in a tournament against rules wouldn’t aid Barnes in a no rules fight. From a martial arts standpoint, we have talented fighters at my MMA gym and game planning/being able to use your strengths is what decides the outcome. The main reason Daniel beat Silver is Silver had a long break and just got out of a fight with Chozen. Sorry long comment but excellent stuff 🙏

Barnes didn't train for years, and Johnny has been training the last few years, and even then, Barnes held his own it wasn't one-sided Barnes knocked him down and then Johnny knocked Barnes down and then gave up. In any combat sport, if you don't train for yrs and go against someone who has been training, you're probably not going win.

Barnes had not kept on his training. He wanted to come back as his old self because Silver destroyed his lifework and he appreciated so much that Daniel asked his help. He took his old ego back trough the teaching and ended up underestimating Johnny. Johnny clearly gets his strength from the aggression after taking some beating first. We have seen this in his first fight with Kreese, his fight with 5 senseis and now with Barnes. He surprises his opponents with a kick in the face just when they think they have won. About the fight between Silver and Daniel. Silver is long-reach fighter who surprises his opponents with the cruel moves like the quick Silver method. He didn't have anything To fight for against Daniel and he was also hurt by Chozen first. Also he was surprised by Daniel using Quick Silver instead of being only defensive like in there first fight when Daniel didn't want it.

He was more than likely very rusty and out of practice, as explained. Johnny has always had excellent karate skills and is a natural fighter. Plus the skills he has gained from Miyagi-Do over last year or two has made him even more formidable. However… is this fight happened in the mid 1980s when the were both around 18 or 19… I reckon the outcome would have been VERY different!

I also believe that back in the 80s, Barnes was - by proportion - much bigger and stronger than Lawrence ... these days, Johnny clearly bulked up a lot since then and so, the gap in strength and size has clearly dropped ... Lawrence was also no doubt the more skilled and determined one, while Barnes always relied on superior strength, brute force and intimidation ... even when Barnes knocked out that 1 Sensei (before getting caught off guard and knocked out seconds later himself) I felt like - if anything - he was using more of a wrestling takedown approach rather than karate type kicks like Johnny

For at least the past year in universe Johnny fully recommitted to karate, he's been training and fighting against the highest level opponents he's ever fought against back to back on top of adding Miyagi do (which is basically the most broken karate style in existence) to his arsenal. Mike's been a retired carpenter for decades now and aside from one coked out night we he was incapacitated fairly easily hasn't really done any real karate that we know of. Even if they were both at peak conditioning, if Miyagi do can take scrawny Daniel who never really had any karate real experience and turn him into someone who ,even injured, was able to swiftly beat a two time all valley champ of the toughest school in the state then it should easily close whatever gap might have existed between Johnny and Mike

I’m a Karate practitioner and I was laughing and cringing at Mike Barnes when he wore a black belt with 10 stripes indicating he’s a 10th Dan. I did like the Shotokan patch but there’s no way he’s that age and holds that rank. I agree Mike would beat Johnny.

Ikr lol, the karate style I train in 10th Dan is exclusively reserved to the founder of the style.

You’re wrong here Theory. Mike Barnes is a shadow of his former self, he found some peace and normality in life, whereas Johnny never lost that chip on his shoulder, in fact it probably got bigger than anything. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Give both of them 3 months training and barnes whoops his ass 😅

Mike was national champ, but was it all styles like the all valley or was it for his particular style only? We don't know, but we do know that sometimes Karatekas are better point fighters than they are full contact fighters, & maybe Johnny is just the better full contact fighter. Also, Daniel is now the same age as Miyagi was when they met. Being almost the equal to his sensei would mean he has the tools to beat Silver, who Miyagi toyed with. It is what it is.

It’s kinda weird how Mike lost
@TheOriginalRizk4 ай бұрын
I get what you're saying man. But look at what just happened to Mike... his shop gets burned down, he has trouble with his wife, he even admits that he's trying to pick a fight because he doesn't know how to process what's going on in his life. Of course he lost, his head isn't in the right place. Johnny on the other hand, his head is EXACTLY where it needs to be at this point (what with the baby coming and all).

I think it’s impressive for Mike who hasn’t trained in karate in years to keep up with this current Johnny… if Barnes continued training I believe he would’ve won this fight
@SINdaBlock4115 ай бұрын
People say this fight makes no sense ... we've seen Johnny and Chozen struggle with that one Cobra Kai Sensei ... several episodes later Johnny is left to face 5 Sensei INCLUDING the same Sensei he and Chozen struggled with before and he was WINNING for a good portion of the fight ... also, Chozen and Barnes somewhat tied yet Chozen pretty much defeated Silver and Silver was always better than Johnny yet Johnny beat Barnes ... I think either abc logic doesn't apply (makes sense, because everyone is different especially in martial arts) or it's just random fan service in favor of whatever plot the writers of the show see fit ...

I have to disagree with you on Daniel beating Silver. When Silver beat Daniel the first time he hadn't already been in a big fight, he hadn't already taken hard shots from someone. But the second time around Terry was already been in a big fight with Chosen, just a few minutes prior. Also Terry is around the age of 72 years old? Time is undefeated. You add in his age, the battle he had already been through, plus there's the theory that Terry is sick and dying. Of course Daniel easily beat him.

Kreese said there was no kick that could have stopped Johnny in his prime lol. Basically saying Johnny was unstoppable. So it's pretty clear Johnny beats Mike especially when Mike hasn't done karate in a long time
@DarthPyrusTheVirus5 ай бұрын
That defies everything in the movies and is clearly Kreese being biased. Daniel fought all of them and said Mike was his toughest opponent, which actually does line up with how the movies portrayed them.
@iwiwwh20025 ай бұрын
Well he's right as we see in season one when the show started the break up with Ali still affected him 30 years later imagine how much it did during the tournament in 1984 of course he lost and then the help of plot armor
@brunosanz74775 ай бұрын
Not only is Kreese heavily biased towards Johnny (Is his weakness), but that statement isn’t even canon, it’s a deleted scene, KK1 Johnny with confidence was barely superior to a healthy Daniel in Kk1 And Kk3 Daniel is equal to Robby S2. Kk Johnny is just fodder
@bleedingcrystal47225 ай бұрын
Revisionist history. There’s nothing in the movies that suggest Johnny was ever “on his way to being a world champion” like Kreese said. He was a local champion. Nothing more. Mike, on the other hand was being written about.

Kreese probably should have made one exception for the CRANE KICK as that totally took down Johnny ahahahah.
@marshallmonroe88035 ай бұрын
In all fairness, Johnny was currently training and learned new skills, and Barnes just got off the couch. Barnes did best, Johnny, then Johnny bested Barnes and then gave up. Wasn't one sided and if there going by the plot Barnes wasn't active at all and did pretty good for not training all those years.
@donovanjrichards5 ай бұрын
I love you Theory but I have to disagree with you on this one. Skill, potential and reputation all come second if you do not train. Or if you don't have heart. Someone who trains one kick for 10k hours will always win with that kick against someone who can naturally do that kick amazingly without any effort.

Johnny wanted it more than mike. To Mike this was just as he saw it putting a big mouth wannabe in his place. To Johnny this was a huge deal. Not only was he fighting for a Devon’s future but ever since he heard Mike was the badboy of karate he felt like he had to prove himself against Mike.

Realistically, I feel that Chozen would have beat Barnes, at the time when both were young, and in their prime. Chozen was a Master, I believe. He took on 4 Black belt senses at one time, in Part 2. You guys surely remember that, right? So, no, now way would Barnes have beat Chozen, realistically. He was Sato's top student, and he was probably studying Karate since he was like 4 years old, I imagine. And, yeah, Barns was very rusty, and I am sure that it why he lost to Johnny.

Johnny this season is probably the strongest fighter because he looks focus and balanced more than ever. He's the main character of the show, and I'm saying this as a Barnes fanboy.
