People always emphasize on performers gaining weight. Always. You can be paper thin, anorexic in rock music, and people will think it's cool. The moment you put on weight, it's all what's talked about.I hate that. It's shallow, it's lame. Are we just an appearance? Is it all that matters? Are we just flesh? Or is the person underneath the most important? I wonder why our society is obsessed with that. Plus I think he's lost some of the weight since then, even though these things come and go.

I wish I could have loved punk more but aside from a group here or there I was primarily a John Lydon fan. He was the extent of my interest in punk but he was enough because he was incredibly real and genuine. He remains so today. I loved how he busted Dick Clark's chops with his bizarre off the wall appearance on American Bandstand. American Bandstand was great but having Lydon's antics on the show made it better. John Lydon is a true giant in music. Sorry about your family, John. Blessings to them.

You're right...I consider myself a punk fan but when I actually think about it, there was only the Pistols, the Clash, not-quite-punk bands like the Stranglers and the Banshees, second division plodders like the Lurkers, maybe the Vibrators, and the rest was rubbish. Stuff like Eater, Slaughter and the Dogs, just bereft of any talent and with no legacy. The proof of the pudding was the great music that Lydon continued to make (members of the Clash too, plus the Stranglers and the Banshees went on to make many great albums).

John Lydon is the first to call people fat like he did to Johny Vagas.
