Johnny Manziel is happy the Dallas Cowboys didn’t draft him:
“If you would’ve put me in a landscape that was my backyard… I know who I was hanging around at that point in my life and I think it would’ve been an absolute disaster… thankfully, it didn’t happen even though at the time it was what I wanted.”

What he's giving us is the deep - behind the scenes things to being a pro athlete. We see teams and players and wonder why they don't win or thrive in the NFL not thinking about the other "players" on the team (Coaches, GM's, Owners etc.,) who have a massive impact on their self-esteem as an athlete and their growth and development as a professional. This happens in every single industry - not just football but Johnny's story is amazing and clears the air on who we THOUGHT WE KNEW and WHO HE REALLY IS. I LOVE THIS INTERVIEW because he's peeling back the layers on what really goes on in college football and the NFL. I'm sure a lot of people are upset.

"I don't have a bad word to say about Brian Hoyer", he says just after trashing Brian Hoyer for 2 solid minutes. Fun Facts: Kyle Shanahan, his OC in 2014, wanted to draft Derek Carr, but the Browns drafted Johnny instead (which irked Shanahan). Shanahan didn't want to play Johnny (something about his work ethic and lack of preparation). The front office insisted Johnny play (which also irked Shanahan) and in his 2 starts (over Shanahan's objections) Johnny badly soiled the bed, going 0-2, then claimed a mysterious hamstring injury (there was speculation at the time Johnny was faking it because he knew he couldn't play and wanted an excuse to get off the field). Before the final game of the season Johnny organized a "rookie party", and got so drunk at it he couldn't get out of bed the next morning, overslept and missed a scheduled treatment for his, um, hamstring "injury". The Browns suspended him for the final game. After that 2014 season Shanahan forced himself out of CLE. Browns fans will recall his infamous 32 point "power point" presentation he used to make his case to be let out of his contract. You can bet a number of the points centered on Johnny. Shanahan knew Johnny was a "coach killer" and wanted to be as far from him as possible. He actually took a lateral move to become the Falcon's OC, a rare occurrence in the NFL. So Johnny may have had a high opinion of Kyle Shanahan, but Shanahan didn't have a high opinion of Johnny.

I think Hoyer did the right thing for him and his family. He saw what Manziel was (then not now) and took his shot to be “the guy”. Obviously hoyer wasn’t great, but he saw his opportunity and went for it.

That's incredibly sad. I didn't like Johnny Manziel at all as a person, player, etc. I knew he would fail before he even entered the league. My opinion of Brian Hoyer has completely changed. This really brought light to exactly what kinds of disfunction can happen in an NFL organization. I'm glad Manziel took accountability; it's a what a strong adult does, but it certainly wasn't all of his fault.

Actually, I disagree with Jonathan. The disaster was being drafted to the Cleveland Browns. Now that was a disaster. If Jerry would have drafted you, you would have been still playing.

If Dallas drafted Manzel, he would've been a backup behind Romo (unless they traded Romo immediately after) which means its unlikely Dallas would've taken Dak in the 4th round in the 2016 draft if Manzel was still on the team and doing well. Interesting "what if" scenario to think about.

You're nuts 😂 Dallas wouldn't have made any playoffs. Even though I'm a Cowboys fan, Dak should definitely seek a trade after he's paid. You guys are bums, the fans that is. You're not interested in winning. It's who you accept. Dak is way better in a matrix.

In my humble opinion, Johnny is almost there. I still hear a hint of blame in his voice for what others didn’t do….He has owned much of his decisions but in life, we don’t always get the perfect cast. That’s how we overcome adversity. I think Johnny at times speaks from what He wished he had and what He wished He knew…There’s no doubt in my mind that if he had this mentality and awareness then, He would still be playing football. Life can sometimes be a painful teacher, but if we stay loyal, it will be our best friend. It will always be a matter of when.

Coming to Cowboys under Jason Garrett would not have been ideal even though he was a former QB. He was just too relaxed and Tony would probably not be much better.

I always thought J.M. was overrated. More of a backyard Q.B. With great situational awareness, however I now believe his college game didn’t prepare him for the professional game, and he need to sit and learn on the bench for a year or two.
