I use to work at Bobs shop, I started hanging around 1987 when I was 11 years old and he managed to teach me a lot about cars as well as a lot about life in general. You may have seen me around his house working or with him at another shop. I generally picked up or delivered customers cars with him. As Bob once said to me " Life is like a canoe and everyone has a ore, but every once in awhile somebodies going to use that ore and be a fucking stroke" He hated when people flaked or kept him waiting. Thanks for sharing -Jay Wells

I'm glad that the Shifters of Southern California coined the phrase Rat Rod, built traditional Rods that lacked certain elements such as paint and/or upholstery. This was in the early 1990s, but unfortunately the movement has morphed in to something totally different. Is refreshing to see something suede but traditional. Neat Pickup

Wow. Wicked pissa ride Johnny. Looks great. It doesn't get any better. I'm from Salem , MA so we only get 6 months of good weather to enjoy our rides . I also put my project on the back burner for many years to raise a family and help with my mom after she was diagnosed. I never lost the vision of how I wanted to finish it and finally completed it last June. Check out my build on youtube (65 Tempest Restoration). I'm glad to hear your wife and yourself are well. I enjoyed watching and can relate with your story. Thanks for sharing it. "Keep on truckin"

I clicked on your Channel about the 29 Ford beautiful truck my grandfather had two of them and I stopped watching it at 2:59 when you show the Chevy engine I'm sorry but you desecrated a beautiful truck it's sad that you guys put these motors in these trucks makes no sense to me absolutely no sense all the old Fords are being desecrated with boat anchor Motors it's sad but I love the truck besides that motor

I know they are harder to build and also more expensive. I still prefer original and obviously show cars demand original. That is why they have the Hot Rod class.
@pappabob2910 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but you're still as wrong as you were saying this at the top. I'm also doing one of these and I can say from experience "it's harder to do a hot rod (from a "real old car", that is) because it involves "restoration", engineering, fabrication, trial and error, and often doing things more than once to get it right. Original simply involves one thing___ Restoration.
@jayskinner482810 жыл бұрын
Pappa Bob Sorry, I do not agree. Its not about what is harder or involves more work. Original is best unless it was a piece of junk in the beginning. To restore an antique to show room condition also takes allot of time, money and fabrication.

I will never understand the logic in spending thousands of dollars and countless hours building a custom car or truck, only to just trailer it around...
@gordocarbo11 ай бұрын
agree...picture is cheaper and enjoyment the same lol Trailering is more risky to an accident than driving it . SOme wanna believe they just got something special, gold plated etc. They are just nuts and bolts enjoy em before its illegal to drive these
@jayskinner482810 жыл бұрын
Personally I prefer original. Takes more to make original than to slop newer parts and accessories.
@RoadsAndRides10 жыл бұрын
Jay, I saw this car first hand and I can tell ya that nothing was slopped on to it.
@garrylafferty10010 жыл бұрын
Jay Street Rods are harder to build then original I have both. My 1934 Chevy Sedan had good wood. I replaced cloth interior. Car not worth what I have in it original down to bird radiator cap. I bought E-bay action .8000. In my case my coupe was a much harder project with AC loaded car. Tight fit every thing . That car gave me heart burn a few times.
@Cornmolio10 жыл бұрын
I prefer stock originals as well, but this is a hot rod even I could appreciate. Kudos to him for keeping the fenders and hood intact. Very tastefully done, I think fender-less cars or cars with rubber outside of the fender well are very uncool (besides being illegal in California). Look at how much better this looks! This is truly an old school hot rod with class. A breath of fresh air. Not easy making aftermarket parts work without ending up with a bucket of bolts. Safe to assume the judges at the Grand Nationals went over every detail with a microscope. You just can't even place in a competition like that with anything slopped on. This car probably received extra scrutiny.
@garrylafferty10010 жыл бұрын
Lot of fender less hi boy's in California for being illegal. That trucks a street rod. Not same class as original. My fender car 34 sedan original [paint}would be sold before my 3 window fender less coupe. It rides much better AC etc.
@Cornmolio10 жыл бұрын
Cops just don't write fender tickets that often, but it is a law on the books. It causes spatter to get on other cars, that's why it's illegal. I'll never understand why someone would want to run a car without fenders anyway, it looks incomplete if you ask me. Don't you get tired of cleaning the road grime off the side? Fenders serve a purpose. Front license plate is another law that isn't enforced often.
