Saw him in concert with Dioone Warwick waaaaay back around 1985 at Radio City Music Hall And in recent years missed out on seeing him on 3 different occasions. But I am planning on seeing this This Great Crooner in October at WestBury in October 2024.😊

The Supremes recorded a wonderful version for their 1967 Rodgers & Hart lp. It was cut, but finally released on cd with the album re-release. So far theirs is my favorite version, but this is well done.

Thanks for sharing and showing Johnny Mathis where he could have been in the Olympics. Now I sure Johnny is glad he chose music career…😊! Have a great day!

Definitely he has made a lot more loot as a singer with over $300+ million to this day- than being an Olympic star. 😊

He recorded this in the early sixties. I have played it many times and have wondered why he didn't go for the high note at the end. Here he goes for it and makes it with no trouble. A wonderful Nelson Riddle arrangement

I've never heard a man sing this song it is mostly sung by women. I knew he was talented but being a child I didn't appreciate his style but now that I am an adult I enjoy his music.
@eth.32969 ай бұрын
Yes that is so true, I didn't appreciate him when I was very young and until around 17 with his "You light up my life" lp. Saw him in concert around 1985 with Dioone Warwick at Radio City. Been a fan ever since and going to see him in October at WestBury N.Y. He is still astounding. Like you I too have only heard women sing this song. Dame Shirley Bassey does a powerful version of it !

That's a fun song! I've heard it from a female singer before, though I'm not sure who it was. Lots of people have done it, apparently. Johnny Mathis was pretty animated here. He did great, of course. ☺️💜

Really, I've grown to really love Judy as my favorite singer Shirley Bassey (who also does a powerful version of it too) was inspired by Judy Garland - you hear Judy in Shirley. I'm going to look Judy up now doing that song - Thanks😊

Odd Rogers and Hart song that not everyone can pull off (Garland sang it magnificently). Mathis seems confident but it's not a good fit for him.
@unknown-sx8sn4 ай бұрын
I’m sorry but this is just awful 😢 besides forgetting the words his constant mugging is distracting, he usually has very few expressions while singing later on that seeing this makes me slightly uncomfortable. I’m glad someone steered him away from the Shirley Bassey impression as he is a great vocalist. And no, I don’t believe this had anything to do with his teeth as he claimed in an interview, if anything his behavior draws more attention to his mouth. Oh well, he was just starting his fabulous career and is one of the best. 🎉
