I love that stars will admit to their humble beginnings instead of putting on airs like some of them do because they think its expected of them, he is proud of his parents and not at all ashamed ,that's why he is so successful ,the humility ,the ability to laugh at himself gratefulness to his fans, yet he is refined cultured gentleman with boyish good looks and in my opinion the best ballad singer in the world

One of the things I love in this video, apart from Mathis singing of course!, is the way he checks his mic is safe on the shelf! Any other "star" would have just left it. To me it proves what a kind gentleman he is. I love him!!!!

And here it is 2019 and I'm still watching Johnnys interviews And as he said he did eventually do a Wonderful Tribute to his Idol Nat King Cole. Its on UTube if you look for it. John will be 84 on Sept, 30th, this year 2019. I , we my husband and I have seen him many times wherever we have moved to and spoken with him. He is a very kind gentle man.

Lenorenewton, I had the fortune of being in a room with Johnny for a good 30 minutes after his concert last April 24, in Spokane, WA. He sure is the nicest and humble guy, he signed autograph, not in a hurry as his bodyguard portrayed. At 80 he still can melt hearts, his voice is still wonderful. He is so adorable in every way, and guess what? I received 3 kisses. I am still on cloud 9, he is a wonderful, wonderful person.

@stevescissors - nice story of when you were young- I think, this is just something I heard once, that he would rent a place on Long Island when he would play up there- he used to play at - for instance, Westbury Theater on Long Island for week at a time. The name of the place he stayed/rented is on the tip of my tongue! He is wonderful- so glad you've rediscovered his full gifts again.

@lenoremewton When I was young, i never realized how talented he was. As we get older we seem to get much wiser and see the shit thats out on the radio today and then do we realize the meaning of true talent. My aunt had an Antique Shop way out in Long Island in the late 60's and 70's. He would come in very often with his friend. I remember her telling everyone what a nice and kind person Jonhnny Mathis was. I wonder if he lived out in Long Island way back then?

I sent his most recent videos from youtube to some of my friends, they can't get over how good he still sounds. I live in NYC and i believe it's not called Westbury anymore, they changed the name of the theatre, but it will always be Westbury Theatre to me. I've seen some great shows there over the years.
