I was working in Newcastle and knew JM was on in Glasgow so even though I had no ticket I drove there in the hope I could get one unfortunately sold out I decided to wander go into the centre of Glasgow and on passing a Hotel who should come out but Johnny I introduced myself to him and I was surprised how shy he was I explained my predicament to him and low an behold was told to come to the side entrance of the theatre where I was let in to see the great man in concert

Here is an artist at the top of his game who truly understands his instrument and why people can't get enough of listening to that incredible sound that only he can make. There is a sort of sonic holy grail here and we all know there is only one like it. We can't find it anywhere else.

Here is an artist at the low point of his career. He had not scored a hit in over a decade, and his much-hyped 1973 comeback album tanked (the one produced by Thom Bell.) One of the showcase tracks from that LP opens this clip - well, part of it does - and why did Bell think the best way to present Johnny's world-class voice was by having him _talk_ ? So here we have Johnny happy, apparently, to sing another Thom Bell song that was a hit for someone else. No hard feelings, apparently!

I'm a singer. So I may come at it from a different perspective...His Pieces of Dreams...his delivery, his interpretation, that last note... UNPARALLELED. Saw him in concert three times during the 80's. Here he is at his vocal prime. His voice had matured compared to the early 60's. He is unequaled for this time of music in my opinion. He is a TREASURE. Ive heard him hit A's above middle C with incredible ease and Fortissimo.

Hi Jack This is not the full version as he complained about the stage setting at the beginning , also it went on for about an hour & a half . Just remembered that Johnny & his group had a meal at Shinnaz in Gibson street at the time , they have moved round the corner , I asked the owner if he had any signatures when I was picking up my carry out & took me upstairs to show me his big book of signatures & there it was JOHNNY MATHIS & the football player Jimmy Johnstone (no relation mind yea ) .

Johnny my Johnny, still the best. You can hold a note at such an octive my own breathing gets labored. Your staging and the way your words come out are still as original as ever. As a young adult we have the radio always on. When you came in, as you did so often, I yelled, “douse the lights, it’s Johnny! Then som Alta cocker would actually kvetch his way to a standing position, walk over and shut the lights. He’s to be commemorated for excellence of duty. My own claim to fame was and is the ability to sniff out a milkshake no matter where they were. Well, that’s a talent as well!!! I think. Anyways, keep on keeping on John, our world is so much better prettier and kinder with you in it. No matter what you sing, oow la la it immediately lights up the world with your exquisite, vocals. You’re such a good looking soft spoken man, but when you sing, you become totally wrapped up in your song and out comes a more powerful and high powered man who has complete control over his pipes and his audience. If I could bring my dog, she 18 and not really active anymore, we’d be at your very next concert in either Deerfield or Chicago! Emma Rose would recognize your voice and be the one howling with joy. Live long and prosper John🤘
