Paycheck doesn't get the credit he deserves. One of the best country singers to ever live.

This is what country music is. Straightforward. Music from the heart, from the soul. Simple, yet complex in its own way. Truly one of Johnny's all time best songs. Many have "covered" it, but none can replace the feelings he puts into it. They don't make country music like this anymore. What a travesty that is. A steel guitar and a fiddle do not country music make. Amazing how a simple, 3 chord song can sound so beautiful. Today's performers could learn a lot about what country music is by listening to this song. Well done, Mr. Paycheck, well done.!

His last recording was for Daryle Singletary's version. He had been at that time in the hospital for over 18 months... He listen to master cut in Dec and passed in Febuary. You are all right on here, he was a bigger influence and deserved more recognition than he ever did. Passed Feb 2003 and Daryle who made his last recording a reality passed 15 yrs later. Have fun singing together in heaven brothers... RIP

He's a true legend of country music, no matter how hard his life was, Johnny was unapologetic, a stand up man who held himself accountable for his actions. A man with real balls indeed. We'll always love you, Johnny.

Greatest country singer ever by far. Time to give him the credit he so richly deserves. Sang the hardest country to the softest gospel in the way only he could.

Merle sang a song in his shows called "The Show's almost Over", it's about an aging singer who asks to take the stage....Hag did such a great job on that and he sang it from his heart, because he WAS that aging singer,,,,,he gave it so much emotion....that too is a true country song. I don't believe Hag wrote that one, but it is along the lines of the ones he has written. RIP J.P. and M.H.

Seriously so happy to hear you know this trivia! Did you know our JP actually finished recording songs GJ couldn't finish in the studio... went to vinyl with Johnny's voice... you'd be well advised to collect every Jones album with Johnny Paycheck's name on them and listen... you can tell! KA-CHING!!! Worth a mint! I knew him somewhat and love(d) Johnny! True story, shit you not!
