That scream that Johnny does at the end is just.... ugh! It is gut wrenching in the best way! I think something that is enormously damaging is when a teacher---- someone whose job it is to impart knowledge---- tells you that you're hopeless. Not only do you feel small, you are made to feel like you're so awful that you can't even be taught. I learned far too late in life that some teachers arent in the job because its their calling, amd therefore grow to resent said job, and then take it out on their students. Johnny's scream at his teacher is so powerful. He knows his worth because he already knew it himself, but also was lucky enough to find the right teacher. By far my favorite moment in Sing 2.

I love this scene always. In every single movie, johnny always has a mentor. First it was that lizard lady(forgot her name) then he tried finding it in that monkey but couldn't and found it in his friend. He just needs people to push him and show him how great he already is. In a way the monkey is right, johnny won't be great until he realizes he is without mentors and friends.

The fact that the monkey yielded, and gave him a grace bow after Johnny had proven himself shows that he actually *did WANT* to see Johnny succeed; he just didn't believe he could do it because Johnny has never been able to do it single-handedly. Then when Johnny *did* succeed all by himself, utterly shocking him, he acknowledged his skill and gave him due credit.

@@hobomike6935 Yeah, it's a cool changeup to the usual formula where the jerk that underestimates the protagonist just falls from grace without acknowledging the protagonist, but here we see a teacher who was maybe just over zealous about his demands but was willing to accept that Johnny had indeed grown as a dancer in the end.

Part of being a great teacher, is being a great student. Here, even a professional dancer like Klaus recognized that Johnny *did* have talent; and yielded to him. Not out of defeat, but out of acknowledgment that he was wrong and has more to learn about impromptu choreography. Johnny has now proven himself, and Klaus respects him 😊

I was somewhat surprised that he didn’t storm off in rage, but used his failure to beat Johnny as a learning moment. Even a master dancer like Klaus with his own studio and accolades, is still a student at heart and is willing to acknowledge skill when he sees it. His bow of grace at the end was his way of telling Johnny, without words, that he had earned his respect; Klaus now saw that he was wrong before; and was proud that Johnny had taken Klaus’ message about using suffering to become great even when he had clobbered him over the head with it.

This scene really hits me because I had a teacher who emotionally abused me. And I was in elementary school. I was taught that teachers are to guide you, inspire you, and lead you to make smart choices. I was bullied by my own teacher, and I was always afraid to go to school. And when I needed that self confidence they teared me apart. And I so badly wanted to shout why? The teacher inspired, guided and did all the things I needed too. See, I have autism spectrum disorder and back then no one had a confirm answer of what it was. But from elementary school to 7th grade I lost the ability to trust teachers all because of that one. And I so badly want to take that high school diploma and show it to that teacher. And tell to their face: “Remember when you said I was stupid? And that I will never make it pass said grade or even get to high school if I was lucky? Well, YOU WERE WRONG.” What saved me was in 8th grade I met a teacher that was basically a therapist too. And they were horrified at my elementary school tale. That teacher I want to give them and hug and tell them: “Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for never giving up on me. And thank you for rebuilding the trust of a teacher and a student. I have never once thought less of you. Forgotten, or even have one poor thing to say.” So, I know what Johnny is going through with this dance teacher. People learn differently. Not everyone is going to get it right the first time. Mrs. Crawley even gave him one on one teaching. She was a patience and caring lizard.~

You’re right, it vanishes somewhere right around the 3:59 mark. RIGHT in the previous scene 3:50 , both his arms are separately raised, so he’s still got both; then at 3:58 he’s just got the one staff. Did he discard the off-hand staff? I don’t see it in the pull away at 4:05

The ring formation and pounding of the sticks reminds me of my baton training in the USAF. the ring consisted of fellow airmen holding football defensive practice bags and plastic batons and randomly they would come in one at a time and we had to use the baton efficiently and correctly to keep the approaching bag back. I actually liked Klaus' final action. He's a master in his own right of performing arts, and once he saw that Johnny had proven himself (WITHOUT using his techniques) he realized there's more than one way to nail a choreographed performance, and bowed out of respect and admiration. Johnny needed to believe in himself, WITHOUT a mentor propping him up. Klaus pushed him to do this (albeit in the wrong way,) and both characters learned a lesson because of it.
