Something that took me a long time to realize about the saving Cid thing. When you enter the house, you always see Cid moving into the bed from the left side for some reason. As a kid, I thought this was some weird mistake in character programming or something. But if you think about it: the secret passage to the basement is on that side of the house. With the raft. Cid was going into the basement, despite his illness and weakness, to work on building a raft for Celes. That’s why he can die so suddenly; he’s working himself to the bone because he doesn’t *actually* believe it’s all hopeless. He wants Celes to have a future.

There's some great details hidden in the game that are easy to miss: Locke only starts to care about Terra when he finds out she has amnesia, Celes throwing the bouquet in the opera is mirrored during her suicide attempt, Locke patches up Interceptor in Thamasa, setting up him patching up the bird in the WoR.

So many funny moments of Johnny dare explaining every future FF games. The history of FF9 showing many Easter egg references to previous FF game along with hilarious commercials for it. FFX where it's early creation was said before 2000 along with the Beta version mentioning a concept that would eventually be a idea for Lost Odyssey. FF13 and FFXV history of their Behind the development that cause friction and further delay's. FF12's entire story narrative where you could honestly compare some characters narrative to Star Wars Episode IV. 33:46 I totally understand how Celeste's suicide attempt was extremely important for gaming, specially considering the era. It was not everyday that a "game for children" could channel actual emotions on people, and put that on the forefront. This was video games taking it's first baby steps as a form of art (not wanting to sound cheesy and pretentious but sounding anyway) Video games started going past the "game" aspect of just master the rules and win. It became more, it actually started making people FEEL things and make that it's main goal. Crazy to think they'd pull so much of that emotional impact again later with FF7

Games being for children was a facade, and engineered by Nintendo during the rise of the NES in America (and likely Hiroshi Yamauchi mainly) for unclear reasons. This is important to such realities as the main reason Pac-Man was not only a success, but became a household name, was primarily because it appealed to women and businessmen (among others); all audiences traditionally unimpressed by gaming.
@MrVariant3 жыл бұрын
@@osurpless it's not a facade; it's a ghetto for people who didn't do the research, much like cartoons (tv tropes animation ghetto) or anyone who believes anime/yugioh is seriously a children's card game despite the chase cards and pay to win mentality. Gameplay-wise, the various rom hacks (Brave New World, Return of the Dark Sorcerer) accomplished much the same for me throughout early 2021. Picked it back up in 2021, and couldn’t put it down. The fantastic characters, the phenomenal music, and just experiencing again a game where the lack of graphics is balanced by the power of your own imagination interpreting the cutscenes. I was actually getting annoyed because his health was improving and I wanted to just get the tedious 'fishing minigame' part over with. Then to my shock he actually lived. I agree though that story wise, Cid dying is more interesting. The scenario where he lives feels honestly tacked on. He doesn't play into the ending, he doesn't have a scene where you can bring the party back and talk to him or something. He just hands over the raft and does nothing. Pretty underwhelming.

Great vid, my favorite game of all time and was an enjoyable watch :). A couple things to throw out: - Agreed on the World of Ruin's shortcoming being a lack of character-specific dialogue. I'd chalk it up to technical limitations myself; adding those moments of optional dialogue in terms of event coding has the game run a check on your current party members to see who is in the party, and if there's someone there who has different dialogue, it loads a separate dialogue box. If I had to guess, either due to time or data space, they stopped doing this after a while. I'd loved to see this expanded with mods to allow the characters to have more specific interactions. - I'd say that Kefka's inaction and simplicity of motivation is part of the game's theme. The second half of the game is all about the characters finding the will to live and what makes live worth living, but Kefka, symbolizing nihilism and despair, is devoid of such things. He won, he got what he wanted, and...he has nothing left to do but blast the ashes of the world when he gets bored, and wiat for the party get to him. I agree he's not the most complex or well-written villain, not at all, but he works well in VI's narrative to embody the game's central themes and contrast them against the antagonist, giving them an external threat to mirror their internal conflict. - Agreed 100% the game is too easy and broken. It's one of the game's few blemishes, character skills become obsolete and most enemies can be wiped out in one round. My preferred way to break things was the Offering and Genji Glove on Locke with the Atma Weapon and ValiantKnife; since both weapons ignore defense, Locke gets 8 ridiculously powerful attacks a turn, and you can cast Quick on him to boot. - Terra having more abilities when she's riding Magitek Armor is actually explained in supplementary materials. There's some passage in a guidebook that mentions only someone with a magical infusion can tap into the full potential of Magitek Armor, so that's why Terra has more moves. That SHOULD mean the party gets those expanded skills in the World of Ruin once they've had espers, but that would probably be a pain in the ass to code. - The Men in Tights clip was hilarious. Long live FF6! Cannot wait for the Pixel Remaster release.

Incredibly endearing characters, a great story and fascinating world, an outstanding villain, some of the best scenes & moments out of any game, and god-tier music! To add on to that, it's just a seriously fun game to play as well -- I love the esper system, the relics, and multi-party dungeons. I think the huge cast in this game is part of what makes it so special, even if some of the characters don't get quite the same amount of development as others. I pray that one day this game gets a proper remake! Seeing scenes like the opera scene, the phantom train, Darill's tomb, the Catastrophe, just.. any scene with Kefka, on modern platforms would be phenomenal!

When I beat it for the first time, I looked at the time played on my main save slot... it read 71 hours, and I remember thinking, "WOW, I will never spend that much time in a video game again! That took forever, but what a story." Boy, was I wrong! It still holds the slot for my favorite game ever. Mainly leaning on it was the first RPG I ever played by myself all at my own pace. Oh, the hours grinding Dino Forest. Great video, my man.

Wait, doesn't that mean all of the videos Johnny made since 06 never actually happened? By your logic, this is the equivalent of Elise blowing out Solaris' flame before it could split into Mephiles and Iblis.

Final Fantasy VI, the very first RPG I ever played. It remains, not just my favorite JRPG, my favorite Final Fantasy, or my favorite SNES game, but my favorite game of all time. I may have ended up spending far, far more time on XIV than I ever could on VI, but the memories I have from VI, when I simply knew it as III, I cherish to this day. And that final bit at the end, where you have the VI box knocking against the Sonic '06 cartridge, had me snerking so hard.

This game was my first RPG and the reason i improved my learning of the english languaje. i stil feel teary eyed when i listen to the ending after the long battle with kefka. I had to translate the dialog to my siblings and it was one of my happy memories sharing my love for this game with them. Final Fantasy 6 is the best RPG i have ever played. This was my gift to myself for passing my exams back in 2002. Yeah it was the Playstation version but I didn't care. It was worth the wait . . . especially since I went cold turkey on gaming to revise for said exams, and FF6 was the first game I'd played in five months!

Aww, it's so cool that you've bested the run time of the Sonic 06 video, where you talked about all the things that were wrong with it, where here you got to talk about all the things you loved. I've only ever played FFXV and VIIRemake but the menu tune at the end made me emotional, I can't even imagine how touching it must be for people who have been playing for so much longer than I have. Keep in mind when these RPGs were first released; reliable "guides" were rarer than diamonds, there was no internet for quick simple tips, the game could/would severely punish you for entering certain areas too early (with zero warning) and you often had to rely on hearsay from the playground if you ever got stuck or wanted the "best" content (Hence the infamous Mew under the truck rumor lol!). Times have certainly changed.
@okagron3 жыл бұрын
Really? If anything, it's really easy to find the places you need to go given how linear the game is in its first half. By this time getting lost in a console JRPG was pretty damn hard given how linear they were getting and how the npcs would guide you to where you needed to go.
