Johnny Weir, three-time US National champion and 2008 World bronze medalist, skated his classic Ave Maria for a benefit in Little Falls, NJ. If there was a signature piece for Johnny, this would be it -- pure skating, artistry, athleticism -- all rolled into a beautiful program.

Johnny does a lot of charity work in my home state of New Jersey. He is above and beyond everyone else on the ice. Both in his skills and his personality. We New Jersey people are proud of him.

@DietBuddah - Johnny started really late; at age 12, in 1996. He won the World Junior Champion just 5 years later in 2001. He's won the US Nationals in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He won the bronze medal at the 2008 World Championship. He was part of the US Olympic team in 2006 and 2010, placing 5th and 6th.

That was truly beautiful. He is such a wonderful skater. There is going to be such a hole in men's FS when Johnny retires because there is no one else out there who skates as beautifully. And the scoring system does not encourage anyone to even try to skate with this kind of passion.

He reminds me of the old days of skating when posture, beautiful positions and attention to form mattered and not just steps, points, flailing arms, pasted on choreography and landing big quads. Skating is supposed to look beautiful and effortless - thus the emphasis on the GLIDE. He reminds me of the old days of Robin Cousins, John Curry, Toller Cranston, etc. I hope Johnny stays in the sport for a while to come.

Johnny is absolute perfection on ice, with clean technique, balance,and agility: the whole "package". I, too, feel that he was cheated in Vancouver. I was so angry! I think he was technically much better than Plushenko, whose best days are now behind him. He has more "heart" than Lysecek! Johnny, you deserved the Gold, no less!! I know that you're future will be bright in spite of what was done. You have true class.

@ameliedaae I completely agree. He is always flawless. I am Russian...so I've been subjected to my share of watching figure skating...and I've never seen anyone skate with such fluidity and emotion for the music. I would much rather this than a heavy quad. It's great to be athletic but the artistry has been completely left behind in what is meant to be as much an art form as it is a sport.

@lapetiteombre I believe that Josh's dad is Russian & Polish & there was a great grandmother (I think) who was Russian/Jewish Or Polish/Jewish. Josh's Mom is totally Swedish & the family home is still there in Sweden. His Dad was Russian Orthodox he & Josh's Mom, Lindy converted to Episcopalian.. This is what I have read, anyway. Corrections are accepted & appreciated, but have been a Grobanite since the beginning, so pretty sure on this. LOVELY SONG & skating!!! Qetesh97
