I got to See Johnny All My Life 10 times in concert 1973 - 1999 first heard his Album Johnny Winter and Live when I was 17 years old, fell instantly in love with him, his music, my Hero for Life. He was Easily The Greatest Concert Musician of em all, Sounded better live than anyone else, he was Great Great Great The Best. I got to talk to him at a concert in 1975 he treated me wonderful.

I saw him play this live! This is from “winter of 88” album. He said in a interview many years later that he did not like that album- but i and a lof of people loved it. He was his own worst critic. RIP JW ☮️

I wish Johnny Winter was still alive and well. Fortunately he left us a large legacy. A large library of music to study, listen to, and enjoy. I saw him only once. I had tickets to see him at the Montreal Jazz Festival many years ago but was unable to attend. When I finally had the chance to hear him play live about three years ago, the poor fellow was unable to stand and had to play sitting down. But, man oh man, he was good! Very loud. His band were exceptional musicians.

25.07.2014 So sad right now. ... this song's been playing on my mind for days. Seems strange that we lost Johnny Winter in Switzerland of all places. 'Mother Earth' came to mind (Ironic?). Dug out my 'Winter of '88' cd to mourn and 'Anything's re-kindled so many good feelings in me. Quintessentially Johnny. Legend.

A great song. Written by Jerry Lynn Williams. He passed in 2005. I sure would have loved to have heard his version. Johnny's cover is excellent. Clapton covered this one too, in the early 90's. I prefer Johnny's version.
@zakke726 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Johnny has more soul in this version, Clapton`s version is more commercial sounding.
@richardtoland26246 жыл бұрын
Exactly. 100% agreement. And take a moment to explore some other Jerry Lynn Williams' songs. A great Texas-based writer and musician who wrote more than a few good songs that have been covered by big name artists.
@richardtoland26246 жыл бұрын
The thing about the record (The Winter of '88) that this cut comes from is Johnny's amplification and tone is really well recorded. Don't know who engineered or produced it but they got it right - in my humble opinion. This record is hard to find. The "Blue Sky" label records he recorded have not made it to Spotify.
@zakke726 жыл бұрын
Yes, very hard to find from the stores, but Amazon has it in different versions: www.amazon.com/Winter-88-Johnny/dp/B000002PI8

I can't decide if johnny is singing about a woman or heroin in this song,it doesn't matter,he is the bluesman against whom all other bluesmen must be judged, and found wanting,anyone who disagrees,I respect your opinion,but this is mine,peace.
@AngryHatter6 жыл бұрын
A woman's love. (Or a man's) No doubt. Addiction does not love you back - so he would not ask dope for love in return.
@jeffjeeves63376 жыл бұрын
Agood point this was my first thought, but then I thought,he may have loved heroin,but it didn't love him?,or maybe he was singing about both?
@janetfisher27226 жыл бұрын
A woman's love , Johnny sings about a love he lost

He only did H for a short time in his life and that was years before he made this album. He explained it in the authorized biography “raisin’ cain”. You should read it. This is def not about drugs. Fyi.
