Hung out with him at bb kings club ny , my friend and i were his band guests ,great man, great musician had the honor of telling him i bought a original reverse bird cause i swore that it was his sound, his answer blew me away . He said" i swear that guitar will go with me to my grave, i think gibson made that model just for me" btw thats the sunburst . My top favorite guitarist of all time. He needs to be recognized for his guitar craft put him in the top blues players list.

I still miss Johnny! Still love the story when young Johnny first met BB King. B.B. asked him " Do you know any of my songs?.. and Johnny said " I know 'em all , sir".... and then they played and Johnny blew his socks off!

Great props to Paul Nelson for looking after Johnny through his last few years. By this stage, age and infirmity had slowed him down and Paul was a better player but never tried to steal the show.

Johnny Winter defines the White Bluesman. All others have followed in his wake and stand in his shadow . If B.B. King acknowledges his sincere respect , to anyone playing the Blues That is the highest praise . I met him face to face He was a very humble character , with a dry sense of humor . An Experience that I will remember the rest of my days . Sweet Papa John.

I will always remember him from the late 1980s concert he played at Toad’s in New Haven CT. He was flawless. Too often I have heard others say that yes, Johnny Winter was a good blues guitarist, but that they didn’t consider him as important as some of the other more notable blues guitarists and successful musicians of our time. Yet he played and lived the blues man’s life truer than most, until the end. So it’s a fitting tribute that, for what would be his final studio recorded album he was accompanied by some other guitarists and musicians; here are their names: Jason Ricci, Ben Harper, Paul Nelson, Joe Perry, Joe Bonamassa, Brian Setzer, Billy Gibbons, Dr. John, Leslie West, and Eric Clapton. The Vikings believed that only by dying in battle, with sword in hand, could a warrior enter Valhalla, their place in the here-after where only the best could all be together forever. Johnny Winter has gone to take his place with the other great blues guitarists in their place in the here-after where only the best could all be together forever. He died guitar in hand.

I too, was fortunate enough to see Johnny a couple times before he passed over. After listening to those old albums over the years it was a great feeling to connect. I was hoping that he would dig out a metal body dobro type guitar, but it didn't happen. I got it on the album's though! A wicked bluesman! RIP Johnny

Reading about being a Soldier in Chirst it states as follow in the book of second timothy as men of yester year a strong resilience and preseverance. It goes as follow.. If we died with him, we will also live with him. If we accept suffering, we will also rule with him. If we refuse to accept him, he will refuse to accept us. If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful, because he cannot be false to himself. Have a blessed Christmas Sir enjoying your memoirs and looking at your childhood photo album it's surreal and endearing as ambassador of the Steel Blues and the Dobro Steel Guitar

Pretty great for how bad he was feeling - he died one month later, right? We were lucky to see him just before he flew over to Europe to do these shows, at Saratoga CA with his brother Edgar and Rick Derringer, doing the best of the Roadwork Live stuff including R&R Hootchie Koo. So great, so lucky to catch him still doing the one and only JW thing. We'll remember you Johnny.

ANYBODY can play guitar, some better than others. The player standing next to Mr. Winter, showcasing his own "wizardry" is a bit condescending in my opinion. Let icons be icons. RIP Mr. Johnny Winter, he is sorely missed.
