Randy moving out to the weed farm is also great meta-commentary on the idea of modern life in the city sucking and wanting to move back out into the country. Randy is exactly the type of person who'd feel that way as he's been chasing the grind for his whole life and even when finding success, it never made him truly happy. So to find fulfillment, like many people who feel like him, he buys a small farm out in the middle of nowhere with his family.

I thought it worked perfectly with Randy being in control of the town for half the season, then he gets run out of town, and we had 3 or 4 "normal" episodes like Season 21-22, and then the final episode they had to cave ask him back again. They could do it every season from now on, have Randy open the first episode with Tegridy Farms in control of everything again, and then he gets run out of town mid season but always somehow is needed for the finale so he gets control again for next season... Trailer Park Boys does this with the boys going to jail at the end of every season and getting out at the beginning of the next season, swearing this time they're never going to jail again... I would love it! That finale episode with Randy, Jesus, and Santa doing fresh Tegridy coke is one of the best things I've ever seen. With the way things have gone since then in the world, we will look back on that episode in the future as an example of how open the world was in 2019, how much progress people were ready for, before this whole covid scheme started...

I think one aspect of Randy getting more popular is that when we watched south park when we were younger we identified more with the 4 kids, and now that we're adults we tend to identifie more with Randy

@Johnny2Cellos3 жыл бұрын
Lol it seemed like they did but he actually plays an integral role in that episode. Maybe he lives just outside South Park?

Randy is a real scientist. Dr. Mephesto is obviously more of a Dr. Frankenstein like character. Thus you go to Randy if you want to know about real things that can happen and you go to Mephisto if you want to make a manbearpig clone.

I think Randy and Tegridy farms also had a lot to do with Breaking Bad and Randy being an Avtar for Walter trying to do the right thing and have "tegridy" but just completely getting corrupted. We've gotten a strain called Tegridy in Washington now and it's pretty fire.

The pride he was taking in the fighting was supposed to be like a juxtaposition of how much the kids didn't give a crap about something you'd think they'd be taking that much pride in.

Honestly, Randy is my favourite character in South Park, although I haven't watched the show in years, I remember always finding Randy to be the funniest character in the show. The 'We must stop pointing fingers, Finger Pointing gets us nowhere...Steve!' will always be a line that'll have me in stitches.

Season 9 was Randy's breakout season. Losing edge had him as a secondary story or at least split with the kids. 9 episodes later we have him in the spotlight with Bloody Mary. Whenever I think of my favorite episodes, they happen to have Rand at the center

905 was the 2nd southpark episode I watched on Tv when I was around 8 and I didn’t know anything about the satirical background or the pop culture references. All I could say was that it was fucking hilarious in the way how obviously ridiculous the whole scenario was and I hold this feeling till this day. If they make you laugh with adult humor and the pure amount of absurdity without you even knowing what’s being referenced, you can tell the writing was on point

Great video on the evolution of Randy! Very accurate and well written. Good job! On a side note; as someone who watched EP1 when it first aired (and every episode since), I appreciate how the show has aged with me. Probably one of the reasons it's still around.

I love the way South Park traveled, with the characters and setting, not everything stays the same and it’s always cool seeing “fresh” material for the show which has been running for nearly 25yrs. And being able to access every season and episode made without censorship is a blessing. I’m Hispanic myself and I laugh at all the pokes they took @ Mexicans on the show, people just gotta understand South Park targets everyone to be equal or else they wouldn’t target anyone at all.

I have such mixed feelings about where the show is, especially with Randy. I started watching only a few years ago, when I was in college. Personally, the kids are my favorite of all the characters in the show, particularly the main four. It’s why I like SP’s video games- they focus on the kids being kids and how it spirals into sheer insanity. I don’t mind Randy having Tegridy Farms- I agree that it feels natural, and I think it’s hilarious! One of my favorite episodes was the one where he started selling veggie burgers made with weed? And he had those shirts: “Tastes like s***, you won’t care”? Absolutely priceless. But I get kind of sad that we don’t see the kids as much. “Band In China” was really fun for me because hey, it’s the kids! And the vaccination special was amazing to see, with the kids being the main characters and having conflicts that are funny but also feel somewhat serious. I hope there’s more of that. I just prefer Randy as a secondary character rather than the protagonist of THE WHOLE SHOW. I think because I find it easier to attach to the kids emotionally and thus care about the outcome of the conflict. But I agree that Matt and Trey shouldn’t force themselves to make episodes about the kids, especially not just for the fans. That’d be giving up their ‘tegridy.

I kind of disagree with everyone saying they see more of themselves as randy. I just think they made him so ignorant he could do the craziest shit and get away with it. And they found comedic gold and never looked back. I mean randy is often portrayed as all the worst qualities about adults. He’s basically a cartman or garrison esc character. And that’s why he’s so funny.

Awesome video man. The first episode of South Park aired the same year I was born and my parents loved it, so I've literally been watching for as long as I can remember -- even though I was aware of how the characters and show had changed over the years, I'd never considered how they evolved over time like this. I think that's a testament to how talented Matt and Trey and the rest of their team are, it was so natural feeling that it never called much attention
